Self expression through art is an amazing experience. It's personal on all levels.

The most fabulous thing about being an artist is that boundaries regarding creativity are non-existent. The artist is always in a state of learning. Art is a progressive practice that takes time to develop.

Materials are not included.
Materials needed are pencil, paper and a willingness to explore.

Drawing lessons will be assessed based on the individual's current abilities and their goals.
Ages 9+

Note:
For virtual sessions, the student will need to create a conducive workspace that will allow teacher/student viewing of art work in progress. The student will need a workspace with lots of light. Often, I will ask to see the students progress, so that I may be able critique and give advise on their work in progress.

For short-term sessions (virtual or in-person), the teacher and student will collaborate and determine how the student will get the most out of their session(s).

About Sharron

In my sessions, I am more than a teacher, I am a mentor and a counselor, I promote positive energy for positive outcomes. I am the Artist behind JFA Studio in Baltimore, Maryland. However, my resume includes graduating from the Baltimore School for the Arts and continued studies at the Maryl

Have you always been interested in making art, but have been too intimidated or overwhelmed to try? Or maybe you’ve been making art for years, but are itching to take your work to the next level. Are you looking to strengthen your portfolio, perhaps for college or an artistic career? Regardless of what level you’re at, I’m ready to collaborate with you and create a lesson plan tailored to your (or your child’s) unique goals. Anyone can learn how to draw! It only takes practice, dedication, and patience.

In our lessons, we will strengthen your understanding of technical aspects like line, movement, value, composition, texture, weight, and shape language, by drawing from observation (both from life/in person and photo/video reference). Those that like drawing in a more stylized way (more cartoony than realistic) will learn how to apply their observational studies to their stylized work. Remember, even cartoons are based off of real life!

Supplies will depend on your own artistic goals

About Jessi

I’m an animator and multidisciplinary artist who has been drawing for as long as I can remember. I graduated from MassArt with a BFA in Animation, but I also enjoy painting, illustration, sculpture, and photography. In addition to visual art, I like to dance and write poetry. During my time as a

Jessi has been a tremendous help for my Design II class. They taught me all the proper techniques and was very patient with me and my extremely minimal amount of skill. Thanks to them I managed to get a much better grade than I usually would in these types of media classes (i'm so so so bad at technology) and I feel more autonomous when it comes to designing my own posters for shows.
Destiny
Jessi was always kind, honest and extremely helpful with her critiques of my work. Her guidance helped me understand key concepts in what makes good art and I improved so much because of it! I highly recommend her as a tutor!
Lauren
Jessi was a TA for my freshman year drawing class and she was amazing to be in class with! Very supportive, friendly and made the class a much more positive environment!

I have been a graffiti writer, muralist, and artist for the past 15 years.

I have been an elementary school educator for the past five years, and recently completed my Masters in Teaching degree for secondary education. Spray paint and education are my two passions, and working with students interested in beginning or honing their graffiti skills is a joy.

Graffiti art instruction will be co-constructed based on student interests and areas of focus. I am really interested in assisting students develop their own unique styles while being rooted in strong foundations of letter form and graffiti tradition. A curriculum outline could include:

a) Blackbooking foundations, such as developing strong handstyles, throw-up styles, and dead letters piecing leading to wildstyle piecing
b) Art theory, incorporating the elements and principles of art
c) Painting overviews, including techniques, can control, and cap/ aerosol brand breakdown
d) Graffiti history and cultures, including ...

Ruth was amazingly helpful. She was clear knowledgeable and a great communicator. She was able to solve all my issues and answer all my questions. I highly recommend her as a teacher for illustration

My 1st animation lesson with Ruthie was a BLAST! She had me share my project ideas in writing before we met so she had a sense of what I wanted to work on, and helped me clarify my vision. Even though I’m a beginner at animation, Ruthie used her expertise and wonderful teaching style to help me learn some basic skills with a new program so that I can try things on my own. I can’t wait for my next lesson! Thank you Ruthie!

A gem of an instructor. Knowledgeable, pleasant and willing to teach. She first inquired what I wanted to accomplish and followed through with it. This had to be the best instructional hour I've had in Photoshop.
