Are you ready to take your English to the next level? Of course, you are! And I would love to help you do that.

My name is Jeanne and I'm from Cleveland, OH, and I speak with a neutral American accent. You can feel confident that my fifteen years of experience teaching  ESL and pronunciation mean that you're in good hands. My Bachelor's degree is in Spanish and I have a Master's in Education with a Graduate Certificate in TESL plus a Certificate in PESL (or Pronouncing ESL.) 

I've also trained as a nurse, and I was a small business owner,  and now, I'm studying to be a yoga teacher, so my background is diverse.

I love connecting with my students on a professional and personal level. In addition, yo hablo español, et un peu de français, и я учу русский so I understand the challenge of mastering a foreign language.

My favorite area to teach is pronunciation and accent modification because you need to feel confident that people will understand you when you speak in English. I can also help you with grammar, presentation skills, writing emails, oral reading... and much more! 

I like to have fun when I teach so that you can feel relaxed when learning and so learn faster. If you're a very serious person, then I may not be the right teacher for you (unless you want to learn to be less serious!)

NOTE ABOUT SCHEDULING: in order to get the most benefit from your classes, I recommend scheduling classes 2 to 3 times a week for 30 to 45 minutes. I enjoy having a flexible schedule and I offer flexibility for my students as well.

I taught all levels of English for community-based classes. In addition, I coordinated the language program by testing and placing students, planning outings, and recruiting, supervising, and scheduling a staff of volunteer teachers.

I taught the four skill areas (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) in a range of levels from basic to advanced in a rigorous college setting. I consistently received excellent ratings from students and supervisors each semester.

I've been teaching with TakeLessons since May 2019. Most of my students are working on improving their English pronunciation in order to communicate more clearly. I have begun using the Color Vowel Approach with some of my pronunciation students.  
Most of my lessons utilize American English Phonetics and Pronunciation or Mastering the American Accent by Lisa Mojsing. 

I also have students studying grammar, vocabulary, and all the basics and we use a variety of online sources, depending on the student's individual needs.

I've got almost 15 years of experience teaching all aspects of ESL: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Coupled with a Master's degree in Education and a Graduate Certificate in TESL, I'm fully qualified to help you bring your English language skills to the next level. My accent is a neutral North American accent and I can teach you how to mimic me and other Americans so that you can understand and be understood.

Jeanne is a great teacher. She's very knowledgeable and it's been very fun working with her! I would recommend her to anyone who's interested in accent reduction. 

Jeanne provided a couple of lessons at very late notice to a potential staff member. She was very approachable and researched exactly what we needed to provide as much support as possible. Highly recommend her! 

For context, I did one "trial" lesson with quite a few "Accent Reduction" teachers available here. Out of those, I only decided to keep working with two: and Jeanne is one of them.

It's surprising just how productive (and tiring - in a good way) sessions are. Not to mention that no time was ever wasted - thanks to an evaluation exercise, the very first session already tackled the sound I have always had the most trouble with.

The flow of a lesson is really nice. She's really good at spotting problem areas - sometimes it almost feels like she's reading your mind. I wouldn't say that that I improved that much as of now - sadly there's no magic wands to fix the bad habits built over years and years of pronouncing stuff wrong, but this definitely feels like the best direction possible to finally tackle that "baggage".

I cannot recommend lessons with Jeanne enough for anyone who wants to try and improve the way they talk: people who are regularly forced to listen to you will be thankful :)

Practice shadowing using an intermediate text in the present perfect tense. This is a fun way to learn English without studying grammar. Focus on the melody, rhythm, linking, and reductions. The more you practice, the easier it gets! Have a voice recorder ready to record yourself practicing and then listen to the results.
