I will teach you how to draw/paint what you see. I don't teach you cookie-cutter "how to paint a horse" type of lesson, because this limits you to only draw a specific thing. With me, you will learn the theories of drawing or painting and have the opportunity to practice it with me as your guide. Once you understand the theory behind transferring what you see onto paper, you can draw/paint any subject!
What is unique about my lessons is I not only teach students the techniques of observational drawing or painting, but the theory and strategies of creating and self-expression. I help students discover or improve their unique visual language in order to make art that is meaningful and personal.

About Boris

Boris Ostrerov earned and MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2013. While in school, he learned to paint and draw both representationally and abstractly with various mediums. Since 2008, Ostrerov has taught art classes to beginner adults and children. H

Boris was a fantastic painting teacher -- knowledgeable, personable, and professional. He was very communicative before the lesson regarding the topic, materials, and timing. Doing an in-home lesson was convenient and made the experience even more memorable. We especially appreciated the convenience of him bringing most of the supplies, while offering the option for us to provide them ourselves for cost savings and to continue painting afterward.

Upon arrival he asked great questions to understand our level of experience with acrylic painting, and walked us through tutorials on techniques before we started the main topic. Then during the lesson he was patient and adaptable as my girlfriend and I expressed our individual art styles. Overall we had a fantastic time and would recommend to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing way to expand their skills and experiences.

All artists need to learn the basic fundamentals of drawing. I'll show you how to sketch ideas using reference imagery in pencil, focus on composition, form, light, shading, and more. As you progress we can introduce more mediums such as ink pens, alcohol markers, India ink, or colored pencils. I'm also happy to teach digital drawing, using various techniques to sketch and develop crisp linearts.

My drawing specialties are people, animals, and nature landscape scenery, so if any of these things interest you, let's get drawing!

About Emily

Greetings! Do you love to draw or paint either digitally or with traditional mediums? Do you or your kids love cartoons, anime/manga, or comics? How about figure drawing, or lovely nature landscapes? Drawing animals perhaps? How about portraits? Well, if you answered 'yes!' to any of these, then I'

Emily works with my son developing his drawing skills before he leaves for college to study digital animation. He really needed to work on illustration skills and Emily has been amazing! I can’t believe how quickly his skills are improving!! But more importantly to me is that my son enjoys the lessons. He is very comfortable working with Emily and his confidence has grown in the process! I can not speak highly enough about Emily as a teacher!! She has a very calm and supportive approach which is perfect for my son. My son does not drive so it is really convenient that she is willing to travel to my house for lessons!

My daughter first met Emily through a summer camp that she participated in. She came home excited and told me that we HAD TO take lessons from her! She has been taking drawing lessons from Emily for the past year and has grown so much in skill! Emily is a patient, kind and caring teacher. She really has a wonderful way of connecting with her students and is supportive of their art style. I would highly recommend Emily!

"I was a beginner and really excited to learn as much as I could about painting. Eileen started me with the very basics of setting up a palette, then we moved on to monochrome paintings, and then paintings with a full palette. She taught me the process of making a painting step by step was what I really wanted to learn. Her teaching style was a fit for me because she is both patient and skillful. She helped to bring out the artist in me. I am so grateful for what I learned and have taken that knowledge and continue to grow as an artist in my spare time. What also love is that Eileen has made herself available right me and I plan to take more lessons with her soon!"
