Shannon K.

Boulder, CO

About Shannon

I hold a Bachelors of Education in Music from Florida Atlantic University. I have been teaching music for the last 4 years to students of all ages (5-65 and up). I have experience teaching in public schools in a classroom environment! Finally I am a trained music together teacher teaching in Boulder, CO.

Music has a way of reaching us all and helping us become more sensitive, compassionate, creative people. The study of music has been linked to better test scores, more creative minds, and increased critical thinking abilities. For adults returning to music or picking it up for the firs
t time can be a rewarding hobby, a hidden passion or desire, or a change of schedule.

Music can be for anyone!

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are designed for each individual student. No two students learn the exact same way, so no two lessons will be exactly the same. I expect students to practice and be prepared for every lesson and be ready each and every time to learn something new. "Perfect practice makes perfect."

All piano students should be prepared begin to learning in the classical style. This course of study covers all the basics necessary to study all genres of music and will insure students learn the rudiments and technique needed for more difficult music. Piano students will be exposed to different styles of music as they progress and will also study and practice music theory, ear training, sight reading and learn about the history of music.

Voice students will be exposed to classical voice technique as well as music of their own style choice. Like piano, selections made are meant to teach the techniques involved in singing in a healthy and supported manner. Voice students will also be exposed to ear training, sight-singing, music theory and music history and will not just be singers but well rounded musicians.

**I only accept voice students 10 years of age and older and prefer ages 14 and older. As the voice is part of body it is subject to the changes involved with growing up and is still "growing" with the student. Younger students will be on a case by case basis.

*** Studio Equipment ***
It is recommended for voice students to have a recording device readily available as well as a keyboard or piano. Students/parents will be responsible for the purchasing of any music books through the teacher when required.

A piano or keyboard will be required for all piano students for practice purposes. Students/parents will be responsible for the purchasing of any music books through the teacher when required.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students will need access to a piano or keyboard (88 keys preferably weighted) for all piano and voice lessons. It is also recommended for voice students to have a recording device readily available. Students/parents will be responsible for the purchasing of any music books required.

*** Specialties ***

My son only likes rap music, but Shannon made the whole session fun and he enjoyed every minute of it, even though it wasn't rap!

Shannon is just the best piano teacher ever! She is always professional, always prompt, and always fun and encouraging for my sons (age 8). It might seem like teaching twins would be easy; just give the same lesson twice! But Shannon immediately noticed the differences in their learning styles and has tailored each lesson to meet each one of them at their own learning level. We have concerts and homework. We have great lessons where they sailed though and got gold stars and lessons where we learned that more practice is needed. Shannon makes it fun for them, they are always excited to see her. But she insists on attention and pushes them to learn. I would recommend Shannon to anyone wanting to learn to play the piano!!

James H.

Fort Collins, CO

About James

I was born into a musical family and grew up in N.Y.C. This included my father who was a guitar teacher, composer and band leader,my grandfather who was a violin maker and my great aunts who performed Hungarian Folk Music on the zither, violin, mandolin and guitar for President Roosevelt at the White House. I was exposed at a young age to the art of guitar teaching as I "tagged along" to my father's private lessons. This gave me a great foundation on which to build my own unique guitar teaching style. Musical performance has also been a part of my life ever since I first played the ukulele and sa
ng at a wedding when I was only six years old. My experiences in performance also include playing rhythm guitar and forming a band in Middle School, performing at High School as well as college functions, being a member of a touring Stage Band while at college, directing children and adult choirs as well as worship leading for a local church and entertaining at assisted living facilities. I have also produced a demo cd of original compositions. I have been helping people learn the guitar ever since High School. While at college I also studied Music Theory. Over the years I have taught both private as well as group guitar lessons. Currently, I teach private guitar lessons at a local music workshop as well as group lessons for beginner as well as more advanced levels at a recreation center. In addition I also teach private and group ukulele lessons.I have taught the guitar to a wide array of students with various backgrounds and of all ages. For instance I currently teach guitar to a six year old. I have also taught guitar to baby boomers as well as senior citizens. My vast experience in guitar teaching will help the new student to get the individual care and attention that he or she deserves.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students can expect to learn, grow and develop their guitar playing skills at the individual pace which fits each student uniquely. I present a fun, laid back learning experience for the student within a structured environment with goals for each coming lesson. I believe each lesson should be building foundations for future lessons. I encourage my students to enjoy their learning experience and use their innate abilities to the fullest. I have developed my own curriculum which is a combination of musical terms, guitar chord charts, songs as well as other helpful material to get things started on a proper note.Usually, a beginner student learns at least one song during the very first lesson. I encourage my students to ask questions and strive to develop open communication. If needed, I begin new students on "partial chord formations" until their skills develop to more complex chording. In time, after basic skills have been mastered,I give my students the opportunity to request songs that they would like to learn. I would expect that in six months my student will have learned an array of songs which we will then build upon for more complex and varied musical presentation. This includes the development of right hand strumming and picking methods. I also encourage my students to challenge themselves, as I have found learning to play the guitar is indeed a life-time event.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide the music material and lessons for all my students. I expect my student to provide their own guitars, amps, guitar stands, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I teach folk, folk-rock, jazz , classic rock, classic pop and contemporary artists. I specialize in acoustical guitar but have also done some electric guitar teaching as well.I offer students to sing along with their playing which helps keep them on track.

Braeden A.

Greeley, CO

About Braeden

I'm currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Choral Conducting at UNC in Greeley. I have experience as a teacher and performer of many vocal styles, but I'm most experienced with "classical" singing and musical theatre. I will start by talking to you about your goals and experience, and then we will design a plan specifically for you to meet your goals! I believe in positivity and hard work, and will push you to find your "best voice" while always treating you with the respect you deserve.

A bit about my background: Before moving to Greeley, I served on the vocal faculty at Discovery Canyon
Campus in Colorado Springs, Colorado, teaching 6-12 grade students. In my four years at DCC, the choral program’s size tripled to over 500 students; 102 singers were accepted into the various Colorado All-State Choirs; two students were accepted into the 2015 ACDA Honor Choir in Salt Lake City; and my choirs were consistently awarded top marks at CHSAA competitions.

I had the great fortune of working with Braeden for four years as colleagues at a K-12 school. We co-directed choirs and collaborated on several projects together during this time. In this capacity, I was able to witness first-hand how inspiring, engaging, and educational his lessons are. If Braeden ever directs an adult choir in my neighborhood again, I'll be the first to sign up.

Braeden is the most professional and well-versed voice instructor you could ever hope to find.
If you are willing to explore and test your vocal capabilities, you will find intense value in Braeden's lessons. He knows what he's doing. He has positive and kind, constructive feedback, and is more than willing to tailor each session to the student's goals and abilities. Also, I am an "adult."
