Extremely helpful during lessons. Designs the lessons to use song in my areas of interest. Lesson critiques are always done in a positive manner. Right now mostly in the area of finger placement. This does make the music easier to play. Her husband Chris also teaches.

Courtney and Chris are amazing. They really make sure that you know what your doing by the time you leave your lesson, and they are both so much fun. 10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone at any level of experience.

tl;dr: Chloe is an excellent teacher - patient, organized, effective

Context: I'm a beginner adult flute learner and this is the first time I'm learning any musical instrument.
I’ve been learning the flute with Chloe. She's been teaching me not just music, but HOW TO learn music. Every time I make a mistake, she has great insight into possible issues I might be having - which is REALLY hard to figure out while teaching online. She makes sheet music very accessible, and includes advice and resources on how to practice by myself, how to resolve errors, how to warm up and practice. I’ve never played an instrument, so she’s tailored her teaching to my specific context, which helps me learn much more effectively. Learning a new skill is an immensely rewarding as well as a very frustrating process, and she’s helped me be patient with the mistakes I make in the process. This in turn makes the classes low pressure, effective and enjoyable.

I provide a fun experience of learning to play and share music. My philosophy in working with students is to curb their interests with my vision for their success with technique and musicality. I want my student to not only become good cellist, but also enjoy music on a theoretical and historical level. My overall goal is to make a connection with people that will last and music can be an outlet for growing as a person.

About Carrie

Carrie recently relocated back to Davis California from Ann Arbor Michigan where she freelanced and taught cello at schools and in her private studio. After finishing her masters at Florida State University, she has performed with the Jackson Symphony, South West Symphony Orchestra, and West Sympho

Everything You Need to Know About the Blues Scale on Guitar

Learning the blues scale on guitar is something of a rite of passage for every guitarist. If you’re a beginner with reasonable dexterity and you’re serious about learning, you’ll find the blues scale to be extremely useful. For intermediate guitarists, this scale is essential, but it’s also important to understand that scales are merely the alphabet of the blues language. It's important to go beyond that and play real blues melodies as well, so you can start to better understand …
