The Tai Chi for Health Community (TCHC) is a professional association of United States tai chi instructors, tai chi practitioners, and health and wellness professionals who are interested in improving the quality of people’s lives through Tai Chi for Health programs.  We are not a Tai Chi school. Rather, we come from many varied schools and backgrounds. Our goals are to promote tai chi health exercise and to provide tai chi health instructor support through research information, networking opportunities, educational materials, class support, and advanced training.

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans.

Through a variety of programs and services, VFW Foundation fills in governmental assistance gaps for troops abroad, military families back in the U.S. and America’s often-forgotten veterans. These programs support all branches of the military, are provided at no cost to the recipients and require no Veterans of Foreign Wars affiliation.

The Alliance Française was first established in Paris in 1883 with the aim of promoting French language and culture around the world. The Federation of Alliances Françaises in the United States was founded on March 4, 1902. 

One of 1,135 chapters in 138 countries, Alliance Française de Charleston was founded in 1960. Its 300+ members represent the mingling of two groups: a French community seeking to stay connected to their French heritage and an American community interested in experiencing French culture.

I am a personal trainer, certified Tai chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, and certified Tai Chi for Rehabilitation teacher. I am also a certified senior executive Tai Chi teacher and a disciple of Tai Chi and Qigong master Dr Jesse Tsao. I am also one of two individuals in the USA that serves as an evaluator committee member of the World Chinese Duanwei ranking system.

I am a certified, seasoned Tai Chi professional that is trained in the art and science of inspiring others to achieve and sustain their Tai Chi goals in unique and fun ways.

Maurice came to the Mt Pleasant Senior Center and gave a demonstration of the 24 Forms.  He also helped my class understand more about Tai Chi through his brief talk and wonderful Tai Chi poster.   He was informative, fun, and inspiring!  I'm extremely grateful for his warm and passionate spirit in assisting me in teaching others in our community about the power of the internal arts.  (He also has written a book about Tai Chi.  Look for it on Amazon!   He gives great details about breathing and moving in the Tai Chi way.)  Thanks again Maurice!

Maurice is an excellent instructor. I have taken Tai Chi lessons from Maurice for about 3 years. I am 69 years old, and thanks to Maurice and Tai Chi I have achieved a significant improvement in balance, core strength, mental focus and memory function. In these areas, I am better now than I was at age 65. Maurice is able to be both encouraging and supportive, while at the same being able to push you just a bit in very positive way. Maurice is a wonderful teacher - not only does he teach the precise movement with the correct breathing but he also gives you  the insight into the reason for the movement. Without knowing the intention Tai chi can get really complicated but not with Maurice. His movements are beautiful and he is also lots of fun.

Maurice is a great teacher.  He integrates the principles of Tai Chi with the movements. To watch him practice Tai Chi is watching poetry in motion.

When I was a teenager, I studied with a very well known Tai Chi teacher in NYC. Unfortunately, I soon gave it up because I did not feel that his teachings inspired me enough to want to continue. 

35 years later, about 5 years ago, 
I decided to give it another try. Fortunately this time, I found the 
perfect Tai Chi teacher for me. 

That is Sifu Maurice Olfus - a very knowledgeable teacher and one who can explain each move ever 
so precisely. His lessons are
thorough, informative, inspiring and fun - all at the same time. While he can teach you the 
martial aspects of this ancient 
Chinese art, he can 
also helps you with any specific 
goals you might have in 
rehabilitation and fall prevention. 
I have learned so much and am 
truly lucky to have him as 
my Tai Chi master!

Maurice breaks down the Tai Chi movements into smaller parts that make it less difficult for me to learn.  His extensive background allows him to be able to explain the intent of each movement along with the martial arts application.  His class is engaging as well as thought provoking.  Relaxing and a workout at the same time!

Maurice's depth of knowledge of Tai Chi provides him with the ability to explain and demonstrate Tai Chi concepts and movements in a concise and easily understandble manner. His open and welcoming teaching style keeps students student engaged.

My teacher, Dr. Jesse Tsao, taught me this routine which I performed at this competition.
