Paul D.

Zion, IL

About Paul

Paul has been teaching music in the public school system since 1997. He has a bachelor and master's degree in music education from VanderCook College of Music. While at VanderCook Paul studied all woodwind, brass, percussion, and string instruments, as well as music theory, conducting, and rehearsal techniques.

Along with being a music teacher, Paul also composes and records out of his home studio. He has played bass and guitar in various Chicago bands including, Reckless Maggie, The One, Chicago Sound Machine, and Windy City.

*** Lesson Details ***
Students are strongly encouraged
to practice at least 30 minutes daily. Typically, my guitar and drum students will start with the first book in the Alfred Series. We keep track of progress in a journal taking baby steps where help is needed, and bigger, faster steps when things are coming easy.

I will do much of the first 3-6 months of lessons book. If and when things are going, I then add things outside the lessons book that the student is interested in, such as specific rock or pop songs that are on the students level.

I do believe in following the technique and theory books and completing at least the first in the series. This is the foundation of what your going to build your technique and music theory skills.

*** Studio Equipment ***
living room converted recording studio: electronic drum kit, couch, coffee table, desk with computer and recording equipment, guitars hooked up through computer, thru monitor speakers, room for parents to sit in on lesson

*** Travel Equipment ***
The Student should have their own instrument. If there is an opening for some sort of "recording lessons" I have recording software on my lap top for travel and even more equipment in my home.

*** Specialties ***
I am a band director I specializing in typical band style music. Classical, Baroque...etc. I use rubank often as well as the students current music for up coming performances.

However, I am also a pop musician. I use Alfred guitar method for guitar and teach this is a pop/rock fashion. Also drum set in pop/rock/jazz fashion.

Paul is a great teacher in general. He's a good bass guitar player and has some innovative ways to teach on that instrument, but his approach would work for anything.

Teresa L.

Ingleside, IL

About Teresa

I am a graduate of Northern IL University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. I have 22 years of teaching experience where I have traveled to the homes. Students enjoy my passion that I have with the instrument.

I started teaching in 1991 and have been teaching several students since then. Attending teacher workshops keep me at a current updated level and I want to help the students learn to the best of their potential.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very thorough in my teaching, which includes lesson, theory, technique, and performance
methods. I use a very easy, flexible
approach when it comes to the kids and their personalities. I expect a lot out of my students, yet still want them to learn and have fun.
After three months with me, they will have learned how my teaching style is and will be able to play several children's songs.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I don't provide any equipment when I travel except their books for the first lesson. I would expect the student to have a well tuned piano or a basic keyboard. The student also needs a notebook so I can write their homework down for them as well as myself to keep track of where the student is in their progress.[

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching Alfred, Bastien, and Faber and Faber. I teach General Music, Classical, Jazz, and Popular. I teach mainly through the method books, and then use other supplementary materials as well..

I have been taking lessons for about 4 weeks now and am thoroughly enjoying the experience with Terri. She listens to where I am, and while she is patient, challenging and encouraging, she also takes into account my schedule and my current life circumstances. As things get more challenging, we take our time, because that's what my life needs. As an adult student, I have a fairly busy life with work and other interests outside my music lessons. I appreciate Terri's flexibility with my pace, and her understanding with regard to each client as an individual with individual needs.

I took piano lessons from Heather Ross in high school before going on to take a piano pedagogy major in college. Her teaching was a definite help in preparation for my college studies, and I learned much from her during my time studying under her. Heather is a knowledgeable and skilled teacher who understands what it takes to bring a student from one level to the next.

Jon K.

Zion, IL

About Jon

My life long passions have been for guitar, music, and business. I received my very first guitar at the age of 12 years old and have been studying, playing, and improvising ever since with over 28 years of experience. I have had the honor to train under some of the finest Guitarists in the Chicagoland area: Dave Uhrich, Eric Mantel, Toshi Iseda, and Tom Hess.

I have performed as lead guitarist on worship teams for over 15 years, currently at Kenosha Bible Church. As the lead guitarist of Aural Groove, I recorded under industry pro Michael Charles of Moonlight Studios. As lead singer and gui
tarist of Manna (an acoustic duo) I recorded under Rex Carroll of Whitecross.

I teach and train in a method I have coined "8 Cycle Guitar". This approach alternates areas of focus each week; like a fitness program. By routinely rotating through the 8 cycles of guitar training, the student gains the skill needed to master the instrument quickly and effectively.

My Promise to you, simply put, "You Will Learn to Play the Guitar, period." I will be your own personal Guitar Coach. Look through the pics in my profile. 90% or more of those students started out as absolute beginners. I will help to keep things moving along, keep you motivated, keep you inspired, and keep the lessons fun.

What do I want in return: committed students, students who show up to their lessons, students who will practice a half hour per day or more, 5 to 7 days per week. Students who do not use the words "I can't," but instead use the words "How can I? Please show me."

I am here to teach, train, coach, and mentor you to the best of my ability. If you do the things I request you to do in and outside of your lessons...I personally guarantee you will learn to play the guitar and impress all your friends and family.

Let's start this journey together. You won't regret your decision.

Jennifer O.

Lake Villa, IL

About Jennifer

I graduated this spring with my master's degree in vocal performance. I specialize in operatic singing, but the fundamentals of good singing are the same across all genres, so I can work with you in whatever style you're interested in singing. I'll work with you to create a regimen to train your vocal technique to expend your range, vocal quality (how good your voice sounds in all parts of your range), the strength of your voice, your vocal agility, and your musical expressiveness. We will also apply the skills built with this regimen to repertoire that interests you!

I had a lot of fun. Condidering I'm a socially awkward human being, there weren't any awkward moments due to the fact she's a social butterfly. I love all the metaphors and phrases she uses to help me understand the music better and how to make my voice sound its best.

This was my first one on one voice lesson. Working with Jennifer was really beneficial. She worked with the children's choir I was in and instantly my director and myself noticed a great difference in my voice. Great advice, excercises, and incredible patience. You will not be let down!
