I have been teaching guitar since 2009. I teach in a therapeutic style, using my music therapy training to be as observant, adaptive and flexible as I need to be for the student's benefit. I teach at the student's pace and to their interests, while building their musicality, music theory, and performance skills. I often incorporate singing into lessons as well. 1-2 times a year, we work towards building a repertoire of 1-4 pieces (depending on the student) to play at a local assisted living facility or skilled nursing facility.

All my three kids have enjoyed piano lessons with Marty. The oldest for more than two years! We are moving out of the country, so unfortunately we have to leave her; I wish we could take her with us! She is such a dedicated teacher. My kids have learned so much from her, not only playing the piano but also music theory. She is also flexible in scheduling, so we could always find a time that worked well for our busy family schedule. We will miss her!

"I had the great good fortune to hear about Shauna last year and have been taking an acting class with her on Zoom since then. She works with all levels and has a keen eye, kind heart, and gentle way of bringing every level of actor to a deeper, genuine way of expression with layer upon layer of development of character. Her classes have also included a wide range of exercises to connect us with our voice and body, something I had not had the benefit of getting in other scene study classes and workshops. I'm looking forward to studying with her in person. I wish I'd have found her sooner!"

"It's an amazing feeling when you find someone who is a master at the craft and can teach it too!

Shauna's previous extensive theatre training and instruction is UNDENIABLE. Because of this, she brings much more to the table than the average acting coach.

She made me realize there's SO much more than just breaking down a scene and creating a character. She made me think about where the character is going physically as well as emotionally, and why. I continue to grow and improve with each lesson with her. I'm so lucky to have found Shauna, and strongly recommend her to all actors."

"My first lesson with Randy went very well! He gave some clear objectives and areas of focus where I can improve my speaking voice, and where we'll focus on future lessons, based on our first phone call alone. At the same time though he made it clear that at any time I want to work on something else, we can change gears and do that instead. I appreciate him setting clear goals and objectives, while being fluid and he gained my confidence as an instructor right away! We worked on a couple of concepts in the first lesson and he used a few different techniques and tools to make these easy to understand. I look forward to my future lessons with Randy and improving my speaking voice!"

How Do Actors Cry?

Actors often draw their audience in through strong and seemingly authentic emotions.  Perhaps you watched a particularly emotional scene in a movie or play and wondered to yourself whether or not the emotion the actor was showing was truthful.  Perhaps they were crying and you could see the tears falling.  Are those real tears?  The answer is, probably, yes. Crying on command is tricky business and like everything else, takes preparation and practice. However, there are some tips and tri …

How to Become a Stage Actor: What Theater Students Need to Know

I’ve said it once and I will say it again, we are all actors by nature! Anyone can be an actor if given the proper tools and training.  There are ways to become a stronger stage actor and as performers we should always be learning and growing. When speaking to new actors, I often quote Michael Shurtleff, the author of my favorite acting text, “Audition”. He once said, “Use what you know. Don't worry about what you don't know.”  This couldn’t be more true! Acting is reacting and …

An Actor's Life: Your Career Path to New York Shows

If you're an aspiring Broadway performer, the steps you take during high school play a significant role in your success on the stages of New York shows in the future. Sure, you sometimes hear stories of people who book amazing lead roles in shows after a single audition, but that’s not a realistic view of how it all happens - for most actors, at least. Ask any working Broadway performer – New York is not a city that hands you success simply because you’ve just moved there. Hard work, disc …
