Nashville Venues for Piano Performances
By Julie L. - Nashville Piano Teacher
Nashville, Tennessee has been called “Music City” since WSM-AM announcer David Cobb coined the phrase in 1950. Although Nashville is typically associated with Country music, the truth is that you can hear just about any style of music here. There are many opportunities for anyone taking piano lessons in Nashville to get out and see a variety of live shows, or even perform for an audience.
With 58 official Live Music Venues (each marked a sign in the shape of a large guitar pick), many of the live music acts you will hear feature a pianist or keyboard player. You’ll find Blues at BB King's Blues Club on Second Avenue, and hear live Salsa music while learning to dance Cuban style downstairs in the same building. F. Scott’s Restaurant is a great place to groove to a jazz trio while enjoying a gourmet dinner or “the Piano Man” will play and sing your requests at Maggiano’s Little Italy.
TPAC (Tennessee Performing Arts Center) features Tony Bennett in concert, Les Miserables, or Shrek the Musical. At the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, visiting classical pianists, violinists, percussionists, and singers can be heard. Free tickets for students are provided through the Classroom Classics program. Country music abounds at the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium, and of course Second Fiddle where you can hear live country music 7 days a week on Lower Broadway. You can find excellent music just about anywhere in Nashville, from artists like Lady Gaga and Keith Urban playing downtown at the Bridgestone Arena, to singer-songwriters at the Bluebird Cafe, to showcases at smaller venues like 12th and Porter, or even undiscovered talent serenading passers-by on the sidewalk down Broadway.
Living here in the midst of so much talent can be intimidating, but we all have to start somewhere. As a teacher of music theory, singing and piano lessons in Nashville, I encourage my students to do what they love, follow their musical passions, and work diligently. I love teaching piano lessons in Nashville because there are so many opportunities for me and my students to be inspired by amazing musical performances and to perform in the greater Nashville area. For pianists, singers, or simply music lovers, Nashville is truly “Music City.”
