Get Inspired to Sing in Anaheim
By Rebecca M. - Orange County Singing Teacher
As a singer, I’m always looking to expand my horizons and keep my motivation fresh by attending performances or master classes in my locale of Orange County, California. I strongly advocate for my students taking singing lessons in Anaheim to do the same; it puts them outside of the “lesson bubble” and opens their eyes to the numerous opportunities singing can afford, whether those opportunities are on the musical stage, the opera stage, an open-mic night at a bar, or a jazz nightclub. While taking singing lessons in Orange County, looking out for opportunities to both watch performances and perform will help you keep motivated to take your skills to the next level.
Here in the OC, we’re lucky to have the Orange County Performing Arts Center (OCPAC) located in downtown Costa Mesa. Broadway musicals tour through here at all times of the year, bringing shows such as Wicked, Peter Pan, and Mamma Mia. Or if opera’s more your thing, many regional Opera Companies routinely put on shows, such as Long Beach Opera, San Diego Opera, or L.A. Opera. Unfortunately, Orange County’s unique opera company, Opera Pacific, was forced to close shop last year due to hard financial times. We are eagerly awaiting its return should the economy start to rise again.
If you prefer the ambiance of a smaller venue, a myriad of clubs and restaurants offer regular open-mic nights to showcase local talent. Perq’s in Huntington Beach, The Gypsy Den in Costa Mesa, and The Copper Door in Santa Ana are just a few of the many hangouts where singers, instrumentalists, and music aficionados can come together. And don’t forget that many of these places host Karaoke as well!
Rather than only getting your vocal training and experience during your singing lessons in Anaheim, I advocate for getting out there and using your neighborhood’s performance opportunities to inspire you to sing to the best of your abilities and desires. No matter what genre you prefer, there are opportunities out there for you, new talent to be discovered, new friends, and new inspiration.
