Cool Dad Countdown: Honoring 5 Rad Dads for Father's Day

When I was a kid, I thought I had the most embarrassing dad in the world. His jokes made me cringe and he always carved our Thanksgiving turkey with power tools. However, the older I get, the more I appreciate his goofy sense of humor, creativity, and all the things he taught me. I’m grateful to have had my dad in my life, especially now that we live far apart and don’t see each other often.

With Father’s Day just around the corner, we’re counting down 5 amazing dads out there who inspire their kids and all of us to be our own creative, weird, and wacky selves!

5. Music-Loving Dad

Proud dad Jorge’s video of himself singing a sweet duet with his daughter Alexa first went viral at the end of 2010. In the years since, he’s posted dozens more videos of himself sharing his love for music with his daughters. Jorge’s YouTube videos show that there’s really nothing more special than sharing the music you love with the people you love.

4. Wave at the Bus Dad

For three years, Dale Price has been dressing up in different costumes each day to wave to his son on the school bus! You can learn more about his family and see all of his amazing costumes on his blog.

3. Video Game Dad

When his daughter wanted to play Donkey Kong as Pauline instead of Mario, Mike Mika found a way to hack the game to make her dream come true. Check out the extra-special Pauline powered version of Donkey Kong:

2. Artsy Dad

Whether you’re brown-bagging it or eating at the cafeteria, school lunches have never been super exciting. Enter David LaFerriere. Ever since his kids were in grade school, David has been creating unique sandwich bag art for their school lunches every day.

1. Spider-Dad

What if your dad was Spiderman, he dressed you up as a mini-Spiderman, and then you spent the day together at a trampoline park (which I’ve just learned is a thing!!!)? Thanks to this super fun dad, who comes in at number one on our countdown, we can all see how that scenario plays out.

Whether they’re playing guitar, drawing, or hacking our favorite video games, we’re so thankful for the little things dads do to make their kids feel special. Do you have any favorite memories with your dad that you’d like to share? Let us know in the comments below!
