I was born and raised in Osaka, Japan, but have lived in Los Angeles for 17 years. Therefore, I can teach Japanese in English. I majored in Foreign Languages at college and have been interested in languages in general.
I'm also a certified Kimono instructor from Kyoto Kimono Institute. I practice tea ceremony and Ikebana as well.

I have more than 10 years of teaching experience. I teach Kimono dressing and Japanese language, and I have teacher certification in both.
I like to work with students’ personalized lesson plans. So we can have a lesson with or without the textbook, whichever you prefer!
I also love practicing tea ceremony and flower arrangements. Sharing Japanese culture is my passion!

Akane-sensei did great job explaining Japanese grammar and helped me with my pronounciation. She's very kind and funny and made learning something to look forward to. She also had the textbook that I use and other additional learning materials.

Taking lessons with Akane sensei is a pleasure. She makes learning fun and intuitive, whether we are working on basic skills and pronunciation or conversational Japanese. She is very patient and makes me feel successful after every lesson (even if I feel I haven’t done my homework properly!). I am becoming a better Japanese speaker (and listener) since I have been studying with Akane sensei. She will build your confidence!

My daughter is enjoying her Japanese language and cultural lessons with Akane-san. It's wonderful to have a teacher who can make learning both fun and engaging. A particularly special moment for my daughter was when Akane-san dressed her in a traditional Japanese kimono.
