I am Isabel W. I am from Peru. I have taught Spanish for 5 years at the University of Pittsburgh (courses taught include Spanish I, II, III, IV, Advanced Spanish Grammar and Writing, and Spanish Conversation). I have helped my students learn Spanish and create meaningful connections to Spanish and Latin American culture (some of them traveled to Peru, Spain, and other Spanish speaking countries). I am also an online Spanish tutor, which has given me experience working with school children. 

I have a Master in Linguistics by PUCP in Peru, and a Master in Hispanic Lexicography by the Spanish Royal Academy of Language. In Peru, I spent many years devoted to teaching Spanish native speaker students at undergraduate level at PUCP, UPC, and ESAN universities. I also have worked many years in the proofreading section at the most important Peruvian newspaper (El Comercio). 

I love watching tv shows, and travelling whenever I have the chance. When I was single, I travelled a lot (inside Peru, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, are some of my Spanish speakers destinies). Today I live in New Jersey with my husband and daughter, with whom I travel within the US. My beloved daughter is 9 years old. She came to the US when she was one year and three months old: she is totally bilingual, and I taught her how to read and write in Spanish. Travelling is a very good way to learn about other cultures, but learning other language is another great way to do it. ¡Nos vemos!

I've been taking weekly private lessons with Isabel for the past three months and I've improved my reading and conversation skills. Isabel has selected reading material that is challenging enough for my level (upper intermediate) and each week we talked about the key concepts and reviewed the words that I needed to learn to build my vocabulary. I also used the lessons to practice expressing myself as well as summarizing the reading material. Isabel identified the areas that I needed to work on quickly, and helped me find the words whenever I was at a loss. All this has helped me exercise my "grammar muscle" and think in Spanish. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for an excellent coach to get their Spanish skills to the next level.

Prof. Wong is an excellent teacher. I took Spanish in high school and college, but wanted a way to keep up my Spanish conversational skills and improve my fluidity and fluency. Prof. Wong is fun to talk to, and corrects my Spanish with more natural vocabulary and phrasing. She has lessons for every level, and can adjust to learners of all experience levels!
