Geology

The best part of what I do is seeing your face as you make the connections between what you knew and the information we shared in class that day. It is exciting! The greatest part of the classes is the awesome things we find out!!! 

We use lots of methods in the classroom. We have fun learning. We might use pictures, videos, experiments, research weird topics, and create models, or do 3-D drawings. I use every kind of learning you can think of and maybe a few you may not know! What? 

Science is fascinating and it is never ending and  always changing.. We are curious aren't we! It's learning how your world works.  The world we think we know and what we think we know about it changes. What is the new answer??? Let's find out together. What do you say???

I specialize in STEM classes in Science at middle school, high school and technical college levels. I also tutor for Exit entrance and exams for High School and College. STEM Science subjects like Biology /Life Science, Physical Science, Astronomy, Earth Science, Geology, Ecology. 

FOR TUTORING or full CLASSES, please let me  to select the know what you need, what your goals are and how long we have to achieve. We don't do miracles but we do enjoy ourselves as we learn.  



I offer: 
1) Tutoring  on an as need basis or regularly depending on the goal of the student. 30-90 minutes as you prefer.
     If you prefer to complete an entire subject as a review or personal interest class, you can choose by  semester or year. Semester classes will last 18 classes. It takes 36 classes to complete a year study program in each subject. 60 minutes/class, typically 1 or 2 classes per week;

2) Small-group classes of no more than 5 students - same as above; 

3) Personal enrichment or Continuing Education Classes, purchase 5 week increments. 30-90 minutes/ class. These would include catching up on a subject, study skills, research/ term paper tutoring, project building, exam preparation, introduction to a semester subject class (18 classes in total length).
All classes can be taught in intermediate level American Sign Language (ASL).

The solid Earth. What is it? How is it formed? How does it change? What is the history of rocks? What are the characteristics of the minerals that form it? What is the difference between a rock and a mineral? Why does it matter? What are the processes by which they change over time? How do we know? Where is the proof? How does this all work together? What about solid features of any rock type planets, or moons, or asteroids or comets? Are they really a resource? Is there a most economic way to use the world's resources?

Let's find out! Shall we?

Tutoring for the short term or teaching a semester or full year.

Science never ceases to amaze me. I want my students to feel the same way. I bring it alive and applicable to each and every student no matter their academic level. 

Some students need a state curriculum class, some need to catch up on specific subjects that may be unclear, or study for tests. Some students may need help changing from middle school to high school, or maybe to get ahead in a subject. Other students may need help figuring out how to study best for them or maybe a special focus class like doing a research paper or a presentation. The possibilities are endless.

I took lessons with Marie for my evolution class in college. I was having a really hard time with exams especially as someone who did not have to study until college. Marie was able to help me figure out what specifically I was struggling with on exams and also helped me with terms by making personal connections with content. I felt listened to and never judged with not knowing something. I was only able to do 2 sessions with her but those were the most beneficial sessions for me and I was able to pass the class!

Ms. Marie is methodical, explains the concepts well, and gives great study techniques. I also found it beneficial that during our session, she asked about my specific learning styles.

Marie teaches with great enthusiasm, and it's hard not to get excited when your teacher is so excited about the subject.  She has a true appreciation for how things work together, and it's like she helps you put the puzzle pieces together to see the cause and effects. With Marie, it's not like you learn tons of individual facts and memorize a bunch of stuff that you'll forget later.  Instead you learn how one thing affects another so you can understand cycles and processes in Science.  Plus, she has a great sense of humor and loves to laugh, so that makes learning fun.

Marie is an enthusiastic and detailed teacher. She has a great ability to explain complicated concepts with visuals and unique approaches. Her love of the subject really shines in her teaching. I highly recommend Marie as a science tutor.

Marie is an awesome teacher! She helped me pass an incredibly difficult chemistry class with a teacher who was bad at communicating clearly. She uses great illustrations to make complicated concepts simple and clear. She is enthusiastic about the subject, which keeps you from getting frustrated, and can help kindle at least a mild interest in the topic. She is flexible, and can work with different time and attention levels. We also have great conversations about rocks, as we are both geology fans.

Marie is a super enthusiastic teacher! She loves life, everything in it and explaining how it got here. She’s very knowledgeable about science and wants you to be too! She has helped me better understand everything from the formation of gems and the intricacies of carbon dating to complexity of the atmosphere and the vastness of our universe. Marie loves to teach and her enthusiasm for science and the details of the natural world is very contagious.

I have known and learned from Marie for many years.  She is a dedicated, thoughtful and enjoyable teacher who truly enjoys what she does, but with knowledge of the her subject I only wish I could acquire.  Her students value her as a teacher, a counselor and as their advocate for individualized, student-oriented learning. As a tutor she brings the same level of enthusiasm and student-specific training with many long-term and returning students as proof of her teaching and tutoring abilities and success.

Nature has the best deal!! There are a lot of ways that more plants are made in Nature. Asexual reproduction is the cheapest and most efficient. Asexual reproduction lets you multiply your plants at home without the mess and hassle, too.
