Learn ASL fast from Deaf teacher with 35+ years experience

I use a variety of teaching resources such as Signing Naturally Curriculum. I teach ASL with non manual signals, NMS. How are NMS used in ASL? NMS are grammatical and semantic features other than hands. They include mouth morphemes, eye gazes, face expressions and body shifting. NMS also are used to modify verbs, adjectives and other adverbs. Without NMS, the signs themselves can only rarely create a comprehensible construction in ASL. Best way to learn ASL and Deaf Culture is from Deaf teacher. I also teach Deaf Culture and history. No voice used when you learn ASL. I will teach you ASL quickly, so come and find out!

My name is Katharine. I am fourth-generation Deaf, which means everyone in my immediate family is Deaf. So, I grew up always having 100 percent accessibility to ASL. I have been teaching ASL and Deaf Culture at college, university and in high school over 35 years. I love animals and nature such hiking, camping, swimming, SUP and pickle ball. I have one black cat and I have one Deaf daughter. She graduated from Gallaudet University in 2022. she is currently English teacher at Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick, Maryland. I am looking forward to meeting you!

Today was my first 30 minute ASL lesson with Katharine. There was no time wasted and it was a great first lesson. Katharine was patient and kind, and only used the comment box if I absolutely needed it. I look forward to next week.
