Learn to listen and understand music from a musician with 30+ years of experience

My goal as a teacher is to give you the facility to express yourself through music. The key parts to developing this facility are: 1. theory -- learning music theory is not about learning rigid rules that will stifle your creativity. when you learn theory, you learn to identify patterns and give them names so you can remember and reuse them. the more you know your theory, the more ways you know to express your ideas 2. technique -- the last thing you want is for your technique to hinder your ability to express your idea. Having good technique lets your ideas flow naturally. and really, why would you not want to be the best you can be? When you take lessons with me, you get out of it what you put in. Your job as student is to be honest with what you expect to achieve and my job as teacher is to give you the tools to achieve it

I have been playing music almost my entire life. I first started on trombone in 4th grade then switched to guitar in 6th. I picked up the electric bass in my later teenage years and learned the upright bass (both jazz and classical) in college. My students get the benefit of my education, as well as the mistakes I have made along the way I strongly believe that listening is the most critical, and overlooked, aspect of learning to make music. Just like we first learned to speak by listening to our parents and mimicking them, we learn to make music by listening to our favorite musicians and mimicking them I have a degree in jazz performance from The Ohio State University and have played in numerous rock, jazz and off-broadway bands over the last 30 years. Now playing is something I do primarily for fun and my #1 goal is always that my students have as much fun as I do

David is well versed with guitar. I am learning electric guitar classes with him. He definitely makes the class fun and interesting to learn. I can't believe I learned so much in little time. He knows tricks and techniques on how to improve areas one needs to focus on. Which is why I decided to take in person lessons because a teacher like him can easily see the mistakes I'm making and areas to improve in. Would highly recommend David for anyone that wants to take guitar lessons.

Exactly the kind of teacher I was looking for. David has not only drastically improved my guitar playing skills but my music theory at the same time. I can be a bit of a procrastinator too and needless to say David has kept me honest when it comes to practicing and improving myself.
