Hey there! My name is Ky, I've been teaching privately for about 5 years and joined teaching with Austin City Lessons in May of 2022. When I'm not teaching, I'm performing all around the Austin Texas area in a band called Let Flo Go. My musical experience comes from many different music teachers over the years. I've taken multiple courses in vocal techniques (that's how you should and shouldn't sing), and to test out my skills, I've played over 200 shows in multiple states.

When learning how to sing, we will learn the healthiest way to maintain and grow your voice. I also work with those that struggle with pitch, maintaining a note, or going off key. Doing things such as breathing exercises, tongue twisters for pronunciation, plugging your nose, and talking like a witch, are all things we work on to create the best voice that you are capable of having. If you are taking lessons, I recommend practicing at least 3-4 times a week to maintain your growth. This prevents the repetition of lessons and is needed for your singing abilities to improve. 

 While I focus on teaching vocally, I am open to anyone that would like to learn how to play ukulele or guitar as they sing. I teach basic rhythm, chord structures, strumming patterns, etc. I'm currently taking piano lessons, so maybe in a little, I can add that to my teaching skills as well.

I focus my lessons on my student, I've learned how to say one thing in many different ways because we all learn differently! Music is my greatest passion and when I teach I hope that it is shared and creates an environment where you want to practice and learn more about the musical entity that you are! I am open to all beginner and intermediate levels of music.

I took many singing lessons as a kid, and one thing that I took away was comfortability. Getting to know what a student, or you, are comfortable with is always so important if not one of the most valued things when it comes to a student-teacher relationship. Especially when learning how to sing, it can be nerve-wracking or seem embarrassing to sing in front of a stranger, but when you've done it a million times (like me), you learn ways to make things slightly easier on everyone. 

We will be going out of our comfort zones, that's how we learn, but I work on creating a relationship of trust, I'm not here to make you feel embarrassed or ridiculous, I'm here to help you grow as a vocalist. 

The lesson revolves around how you learn, not how I teach. Open communication is always encouraged, for example, if I'm talking about something you don't understand, tell me to back up! I am always willing to break things down and try to explain something in a way that makes sense to you.

Kylan is AWESOME! She really listens and aims to understand your  goals before instructing and then quickly devises an actionable plan to help you reach those goals. If you want to see improvement in your vocal abilities, you will see massive improvements in a short period of time with Kylan! Thank you for everything Kylan!

Ky has been working with my daughter for 3 weeks now. She is patient and kind. My daughter is gaining confidence with every session. We would recommend.

Ky is absolutely incredible. She made me feel comfortable and explained concepts very well. Even though our lessons were only 20 minutes each, I walked away learning at least a few things to improve every time. I'd definitely recommend her!

Kylan has been teaching our 9 year old the Ukulele for 1.5 years and they work well together.  Kylan's style is flexible to work at the speed of the student and with music that interests them.  She also is always punctual and professional.

Ky is absolutely wonderful for my daughter.  She has been teaching my daughter in our home for over six months.  Not only is she organized, prompt and a pleasure to be around, she is teaching my daughter more skills than just singing.  She boosts my daughter's confidence, encouraging her every step of the way.  She's strict when she needs to be and playful to keep her entertained.  

Ky hosted a recital in her own home with all of her students and the kids were amazing.  Each were nervous but had the courage to perform in front of a group.  It was a pleasure to see each child shine in their own way thanks to their teacher.  I highly recommend Ky!

Ky hosted a recital in her home.  About 5 students performed including my granddaughter on ukelele.  I was impressed with each student and thought how wonderfully  Ky  highlighted each student's strengths and performances.
