Electric Guitar

I play guitar, upright & electric bass, ukelele and piano. I've played in multiple bands throughout my life. I moved to Seattle with my band from Ann Arbor in 2016. We played Indie Psych Rock and were influenced by bands like Talking Heads, The Strokes, and David Bowie. We had the privilege of recording a single with Steve Albini(Nirvana) and an EP  with Gordon Raphael(The Strokes). We toured the east coast multiple times before deciding to make a change and move out to Seattle. 

My first Instrument was upright bass in middle school, then I started to explore electric bass, and took up guitar shortly after. Songwriting is the most important part of music to me, and would love to help people learn how to start writing their own songs in addition to playing guitar. Although I’ve played in mostly rock bands, I’ve explored learning guitar and writing songs in all different genres, and would feel comfortable helping you learn whatever genre/style that you’re passionate about. 

I graduated from film school in Michigan before moving to the west coast. I wrote and directed several short films and entered them into film festivals all over the country. My love of film and music influence each other constantly. I love telling stories through my songs. I'm excited to help people figure out how to play what it is they're passionate about. I've run into so many roadblocks throughout my time creating music, and I feel that I can relate and help with most of the problems you may be facing with guitar or songwriting.

Music Instructor

Taught children from ages 5 and up guitar, ukulele, piano and bass guitar. Always did my best to create a calm and comfortable environment for the kids to have fun and learn without pressure.

Instructor of Guitar, Bass, and Piano for mostly children as well as adults, I've taught many private and group lessons, as well as ensembles that performed for multiple large audiences. Surrounded by several very knowledgable instructors, my teaching skills and curriculum improve daily.

I have 15+ years experience playing, performing, and recording guitar, bass, and piano. I'm most comfortable with guitar since I’ve toured all over the country and have played for fun or professionally in several different settings. I’ve worked with all kinds of students and feel that I’m able to figure out efficient lesson plans for everyone. I like to find out what the student is interested in specifically, and create a lesson plan from that. With children, I usually start with simple sight reading, finger exercises, and chords, and make decisions based on the student's progress. After every lesson I prefer the student to walk away with something fun as well as something technical to work on until the next lesson. I love making lists with students and sending homework over email between every session. 

I believe that lessons should be fun and easy going. I'm very passionate about music theory but I don't like to push it on anyone unless it's something they're interested in. I'm also very excited when it comes to working with students on songwriting. That is my greatest passion and love helping those who want to write their own music but are having trouble getting started.

My first lesson with Jack was great! He was communicative ahead of time and very patient with me in needing to tune my ukulele during our lesson. He is very knowledgeable and I am excited to continue lessons with him!

So far so good. I’ve taught myself as much as I can and now I’m working with Jack to take my understanding of music and my playing to the next part of. the journey.  Jack is very willing to with me on this and I’m very happy with where we are headed.

Jack comes to our home for an hour each week to teach my son (7yrs) piano and guitar. My son loves his lessons so much he keeps asking when his next lesson is. Jack is super patient (my son loves to talk) and manages to teach him some really cool modern songs vs the classic stuff kids don’t even know. I highly recommend him!

Jack is the best! I have been trying to learn acoustic guitar on and off for years.  He excels at adapting his teaching methods to my specific comfort level and goals — one of which is learning to read music before moving on to playing chords.  I actually look forward to lessons and am finally making progress on playing some songs.  Can’t recommend him highly enough

Jack is an awesome teacher. No matter what your skill, he is super patient and encouraging. Whether you have a definitive goal or learning as a new hobby, Jack will get you started and keep you interested.

As an older learner with a little bit of ukulele experience, I needed an instructor that would be flexible and allow me to fill in my knowledge gaps. Jack as been patient, inquisitive, and a right alongside me on this journey. As a professional educator, I appreciate his demeanor, kind probing, and gentle accountability. He is great for a person of any age and ability. His professionalism and personal passion for music makes the lessons very enjoyable!

Jack has been a fantastic teacher. I went in with very little knowledge, and in the year I’ve worked with him, I’ve advanced my skills so much. He caters lessons to your musical interests and takes time to walk you through difficult concepts. He also helped me through the process of buying my first electric guitar. Working with Jack has been an awesome experience, and I would definitely recommend his service.

Jack is a good music instructor. He has a passion and fervor for music. I would recommend him to anyone. I shall return in the future.

Jack was amazing! I needed to learn one song on the uke and play it one time to propose to my girlfriend. Jack gave great tips and advice, and in the end, gave a good critique of my final playing before it was time to go live! I highly recommend Jack, very laid back and professional and easy to work with!!

My daughter has been with Jack for 6 lessons now and she is making fantastic progress. It is so exciting to see her really getting into playing the guitar. Jack is really clear in his instructions and patient with her which has really helped her flourish. He has a lot of good tips for improving her technique and wraps reading music into the lessons as well. The other amazing thing is that all of the lessons have been online. I was a bit concerned about virtual music classes but it has been a fantastic success.

Jack is a great instructor; very knowledgable and offers an easy approach to teaching/learning.  Jack is also very intuned to my desired path of musical interests and caters the lesson appropriately.  Bottom line - highly recommend!

My kids really enjoy learning from Jack. They appreciate that he sat down with them and talked about goals and teaches them using songs of their choice rather than follow a curriculum. One child has taken guitar lessons for years and and feels like they're learning much faster with Jack than the other teachers. And he has my new learner excited about guitar which I love to see. If looking for a guitar teacher, I highly recommend Jack.
