Sign Language

American Sign Language has been an important part of my life for over 20 years when my family learned ASL in order to teach my sister who has cerebral palsy so she could communicate. I have been a professional American Sign Language interpreter since 2008. I graduated from MacMurray College with a Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language Interpreting and from Walden University with a Master's degree in Education and Master's in Business Administration.

American Sign Language students can expect to gain the foundational skills for conversation. Students will also learn the history and culture surrounding the Deaf Community.

I teach students of all ages and experience levels. I can teach American Sign Language students the grammar and vocabulary necessary for communicating in American Sign Language. I also teach students learning interpreting skills focusing on American Sign Language interpreting.

As a nationally certified ASL interpreter, I am on the state registry of supreme court interpreters, and have worked as the Director of a Community Center for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. I have taught ASL privately since 2009 and professionally since 2014.

I have taught students with all abilities, needs, and learning styles.

The Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. Teaching private and group lessons to individuals from ages 2 to 90 years old. These lessons are catered to fit the needs of the student to help them reach their individual goals. These lessons have been for parents, children, individuals with a disability, medical professionals, teachers, law enforcement, etc. and all lessons have been made to fit the needs of the students themselves.

Not only will you be signing in no time, but you will be building a strong foundation of grammar, vocabulary, Deaf Culture, and more. I have been communicating using American Sign Language for over 20 years. I have a bachelor's degree in American Sign Language interpreting. I love my lessons with Tanya! I have been taking lessons for 2 years now and thanks to Tanya I am able to go to Deaf events in my area and hold full conversations in ASL. In fact, the last event I went to, I was complimented on my vocabulary and signing skills. Tanya is the absolute best! 

Tayna is absolutely terrific. She is friendly and patient, and we are covering exactly what I want to learn. I am continuing lessons with her, with intention of becoming fluent is ASL. In addition, to the lessons she regularly adds other information such as documents and other websites that are very helpful. I am very grateful to her for her help and assistance, and she is very good at this. 

Tanya is a great instructor.  She is very thorough and knowledgeable.  She provided instruction to match my current signing level.  I would highly recommend Tanya.

Her style is straight forward and patient, and I am not only enjoying the lesson, but also learning exactly what I need to know. I will be taking additional lessons with her.

Tanya is an amazing teacher that has the skill and patience to teach you at ANY level you may be. I have trouble with communication at times so ASL has been a tremendous help to my family. We have fun in every session and have learned so much in just a short amount of time. It's amazing to actually understand AND be able to respond!

Tanya is an outstanding ASL instructor. She is very well organized, and very good at explaining signs (meaning and correct hand positions/facial expressions). She also adjusts her lessons according to the pace of her students. She offers clear instructions about homework and practice, and then she begins each lesson with a review of the content of the last one. My wife and I attended ASL classes with Tanya, and we were very happy with the amount we learned. We both highly recommend Tanya as an ASL instructor.

One of the scariest things in the world is being older and learning something from scratch. However, when one of my children began to experience hearing loss, I knew learning ASL was crucial as he continued to grow. Tanya is amazing. She's patient, especially when we may have to go back and review something I've already learned, and she doesn't just teach the "what" of ASL but the why and the respect this beautiful language deserves. I look forward to every lesson. I highly recommend taking lessons from her.
