Neuroscience research has found no evidence that matching instruction to preferred styles improves learning. Teachers and tutors can spread misinformation about the brain that leads to false conclusions. You can have a preference for how you like to learn. Yet claiming to only learn through one mode such as visual or auditory is unhelpful. Humans use 100% of the entire brain to learn something new. Neurons in different parts of the brain communicate with each other. Help share this information and help debunk this neuromyth of Learning Styles.

Hello, I'm Mrs. Deanna, a dedicated homeschool educator and tutor. As a Multiply Neurodivergent Adult (Gifted, Dyslexic, and ADHD), I understand the unique challenges and strengths that come with neurodiversity. Despite my own learning differences, I mastered reading through phonics in 1998 and have since completed structured literacy training to teach my own children successfully.

I graduated high school with honors, won multiple writing contests, and am a self-published author of two books: "The Imperfect Advocate" and "Astronomical Learning." Having personally navigated literacy and math challenges within my family, I'm passionate about helping others develop the essential skills of reading, writing, and arithmetic.

This class includes Science of Reading and Science of Math information. If you're a parent looking to learn more about these concepts in this class you can learn their origins and what they mean. 

This class also talks about Social Cognitive Learning Theory, which emphasizes that humans learn through observation of others' behaviors, attitudes, and outcomes. 

This theory is currently supported by Neuroscience understanding of mirror neurons. In this class you'll learn how important modeling can be.

You might have hired a tutor that expected your student to memorize a list of sight words. That's not me. I love structured literacy and explicit instruction because when you teach students phonics and the alphabetic code, they don't have to guess on the page. This also helps me use data and my assessments to understand where your child is at in their reading development and if they need more practice in CVC words to be able to decode a multisyllabic word. 

Do I use memorization? The Answer is NO!

Read Alouds are beneficial to ANY AGE! 

Elementary school it's great for print awareness. 
Middle school it's great for teachers to model how to read more advanced materials.
High school it's great for teachers and more advanced students can model how to read different types of materials. 

Elementary, middle school, and high school also can adapt different plays to model and practice reading fluency and comprehension.
