I have a certification in early childhood education and love to teach children, as well as adults of all ages.

The In-Studio lessons are taught in the music room in the home which includes an 88 key weighted keyboard, 5 guitars, 3 amps, and seating is available. Home includes 3 cats which can be kept separate if needed.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If I go to their house, I expect them to have their own instruments that they practice on during the week, a metronome, a tuner and the music books they are working on.

Great teacher. Gears lessons towards individual desires of students, while still adding some of his own suggested material. Encouraging, easy to learn from, spends extra time with student when needed and time allows.

Steven O.

Albuquerque, NM

About Steven

I love to learn music! So do my students.

After childhood lessons, and BA and MA degrees from Minnesota and Iowa, I worked for private conservatories in Los Angeles, while teaching and playing for church events and celebrations. In that real-world school, I learned the music that the world loves.

I use that knowledge to fire my students' imaginations. If Bach or Mozart motivates them, we set goals to learn Bach's Toccata in D minor or Mozart's Turkish Rondo after two years of dedicated practice. These are realistic goals!
Maybe you would like to study Easter hymns f
or church, as one student did recently. Perhaps you would like to tame Beethoven's Tempest in front of eighty people at a nice recital hall.

*** Lesson Details ***
All my students can expect an experience focused on them, with lesson plans geared to 15 minutes of daily practice, and to their personal goals. Set the bar as high as you want! My students all choose to have a lesson every week under the recurring lesson plan, to make quick progress.
My studio has a big grand, and a digital piano. The neighborhood is quiet, with plenty of parking. Come with confidence, to a studio licensed in Albuquerque for twenty years.
After three months, a busy eight-year old beginner would have a nice rendition of "Ode To Joy" or "When The Saints Come Marching In" to perform for loved ones.
My students are engaged by lessons in technique, rhythm, fingering, expression and general musicianship. All this, while enjoying great musical selections.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio lessons are taught in a living room studio exclusively used for piano lessons including a Steinway piano. No pets. street parking

*** Specialties ***
Mostly classical, with occasional jazz and popular. I mostly teach from notes, though occasionally with lead sheets and improvisation. Faber and Faber, Keys for the Kingdom, and Bastien methods are preferred until the student can play the composer's original notes. Then, their recital works tend to come from such as Bach, Beethoven, Clementi, Debussy, and Chopin.

Mr. Steven is an excellent teacher, and really engages my son each week. He is new to piano, and has helped my son progress very quickly with reading notes, tempo, and so much more. Mr. Steven makes every lesson rewarding. I recommend him!

An excellent, intuitive teacher

Mr. Steve is an outstanding teacher whom I would recommend without reservation. He works at the pace of each of my children and they are eager to work for him too. My son bores quickly, but Steve challenges him with encouragement and speed. My daughter is slower to catch on and he accommodates her speed with equal talent. He is creative in his teaching methods and also in his approach to advising more practice or encouraging practice methods. I hesitate to write this review because I don't want to share the gem we have found in Steve. He is kind, patient, encouraging, excited about the music and the kid's efforts, witty, professional and accommodating. 5 stars.

An excellent patient, teacher with a lot to offer

I have been seeing Steven for several weeks, and I find his manner to be informative and supportive. He is fond of what he does, and it shows. He's interested in students that prefer challenges, and that want to improve themselves. At the same time he understands that growth is a controlled practice.

I believe he is a great teacher with an interest in teaching his students.

Guitar
Dynamic, and immersive lessons

When working with Jake all the lessons are tailored exactly towards your skill level and wants/needs as a musician. His knowledge extends beyond simple guitar playing and into performance, technology, and music theory. Meaning if you want to one day perform live he has all the tools and expertise at hand. Or if you simply want to strum out some pop songs that's fine too.
I had a blast taking guitar lessons from Jake, and feel that I not only advanced farther along in skill as a guitar player, but also gained a deeper appreciation for music and performance.
Also, he's a nice guy and a cool dude. So that's a plus.

Awesome Instructor

Our son has been interested in playing the guitar for awhile now and got a guitar this past Christmas. After lots of searching we finally found an instructor that is a great fit for our son. As soon as we saw Jacob's online profile and his taste in music we were hopeful he would be the instructor for Aid. Jacob is an enthusiastic teacher who is great with kids and has patience with young musicians. Our son is excited to attend his guitar lessons and the homework Jacob sends him home with gives Aid plenty to work towards until his next lesson. Aid wants to practice everyday and can't wait until his next lesson. We are very impressed with how quickly our son is picking up guitar and how much he enjoys his lessons. Thanks Jacob for helping our son truly develop a love for music. We appreciate you!

No other clarinet teacher has taught me the basics of the clarinet in this fundamental way so quickly. That is , to develop a strategy for proper breathing, finger centering , and air consistency on the instrument. He gets an A+ from me on the first lesson. He's just what I need to accomplish my goal at UNM music department. I certainly want to continue taking more lessons from his excellent teaching method.
