Was it not embarrassing when the locals looked at you, and after a couple of frustrating trials, one local might have been lucky to know enough English to tell you the way? Or even worse, you needed a restroom, really urgently, and were so desperate that you even broke the law by going behind a tree …and got caught by a police officer? How blamable!
So why don’t you learn enough German to manage most of the situations you need when you travel? It’s not as difficult as you might think. Most people are unaware that they already know several German words or could understand them if they just knew …

My specialization is to prepare individuals for rigorous tests like the SAT I and II – German, AP German (Advanced Placement Test), and the challenging German language admission test at German universities in Germany.
I have successfully taught German at all grades, in a traditional classroom, individually or online. I love teaching, consider myself patient, and can tailor my lesson plans to the student's needs.
Furthermore, I spent two decades of my professional life teaching English in Germany, authoring and co-authoring textbooks for the English classroom. Since living in the United States, I have enjoyed teaching German from beginner to college level. My teaching experience ranges from children at the elementary school level to adults who need German language skills for their careers or enrichment.
During my stay in the US, I had the opportunity to develop curricula for teaching German in public and private schools. I wrote articles in the field of German literature. Undoubtedly, my academic background (MA in German and English and a Ph.D. in education) helps me provide solid work for my students.
Back in Germany and the States, I had ample opportunities to teach individual students German or English as a Foreign Language. The age range was as young as 8, while my oldest student was 78. I am looking forward to passing on my knowledge and skills in the German language to anybody who is curious about learning this language online with anybody in the world. Willkommen! Welcome.

What is my approach? First of all, I listen carefully, very carefully. I believe it is important for an excellent job to know precisely what my client wants to accomplish. Understanding this is the prerequisite to giving good advice, guidance, and then, of course, a plan, a kind of strategy to follow to reach these goals. There will be a permanent interaction between my client and myself to monitor the progress, eventually speed up the tempo or, if necessary, slow down. 
There is no dogma; there is only one main criterion: success.

We lived in Germany for 4 years and my kids were in the German school system and picked up German by immersion.  In 2014 we moved back to the U.S. and Wolfgang has spent 1 hour every week since for the past 9 years with my 2 boys helping them retain their German skills and add to them.  He is patient and kind and understands different learning styles.  He taught my kids together as well as in 2 separate sessions.  He used jokes, stories, and as they grew up discussed current events and other interesting teen topics.  He has always been flexible with rescheduling or skipping a lesson when, on occasion, some of their other extracurricular activities got in the way of their lesson.  My youngest son started with Wolfgang in 4th grade and now has just graduated high school.  We continued with Wolfgang all of those years.  Wolfgang understands that language is learned with speaking first and spends a lot of time on speaking and reading out loud without too many crushing grammar sessions.  We are sorry that the boys lessons have come to an end.  If anyone is in need of German language tutoring, Wolfgang should be your first choice.

Wolfgang is a patient and engaging educator who does a great job putting students at ease and making learning fun! My son looks forward to his class every week, and is always excited after each session about what he learned.

Wolfgang is very nice, works with you at your level, and creates personalized lessons based on my interests. He makes me feel comfortable and confident even when I make mistakes. Also, he has been very flexible with his schedule to help accommodate me making time to study for the ACT/SAT Exam. I highly recommend, Wolfgang.

Wolfgang is a native German speaker and explains grammar really well. In fact, he's very knowledgeable about linguistics in general. He also has a great ear for pronunciation and will make sure you speak German the right way. The learning experience with Wolfgang can't be duplicated with an app. Highly recommend.

Wolfgang is an amazing instructor for all levels. Very knowledgeable, patient, genuine, and experienced. I have been studying with him for 4 years and definitely learned a lot. Also, he will tailor-design class content according to my questions/interests/shortcomings. He has always been super helpful and kind. I would say I am fortunate to have him as my German teacher.

Great teacher.  Patient but challenging, gives good amount exercises to do between sessions.  Fun to work with jokes, short stories and text book.  I am really enjoying learning with him.  Highly recommended.

Wolfgang makes learning fun!  When he discovered that I loved reading mysteries he sent me level appropriate short 'Krimis' that allowed me to expand my vocabulary and grammar knowledge.  When I mentioned that I had written a cozy mystery novel, he sent a German suspense story that needed an ending. I've never looked so forward to doing a homework assignment in my life.   I can't wait to see what comes next.  
He is also very accessible and quick to respond to questions.  I'm having a blast and look forward to becoming fluent in German under his tutelage.

Wolfgang is an excellent, experienced teacher, who tailors his teaching method based on the learning style of his student. He is extremely knowledgeable of both German and English grammar, history, and linguistics, and is therefore able to comprehensive explanations and show parallels between German and English that help with understanding and retention. He selects a variety of materials, e.g., stories and news articles, to make lessons engaging, fun, and challenging.

For the past few years, I have been working with Dr. Wolfgang Soldan. I must say that the experience has been very rewarding for me and my pursuit of learning the German language! Wolfgang is one of the most knowledgeable people I have come to know, and I have yet to ask a question he can't answer, (keep in mind I speak with several native German speakers on a regular basis, many of which cannot explain what Wolfgang makes so simple!). Wolfgang has not only been able to answer all my questions as my German advances, but he started with me as a complete beginner! He has taught me the basics and continues to advance my German knowledge through challenging and fun exercises, as well as jokes, articles and many other sources. His knowledge of the English language and the history and relationship of German and English is unmatched.
