About Steven

I have been studying and performing music for 20+ years. After majoring in music at College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn IL, I went to step up my level of study at the Percussion Institute of Technology (P.I.T.) at Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA in 2001 attaining a Performance Certificate from my time studying there. Moving back to Chicago after L.A. in 2002 proved to be the right move as this is when I began my teaching career. With 11+ years of private music instruction experience, I have worked with Hix Brothers Music, Naperville Music, Roselle Music, Streamwood Park District, After School Enrichment Solutions, Band For Today, Guitar Fundamentals, Chicago Guitar Instruction, Schaumburg Music, Music Makers of Western Springs, and also maintain a private clientele. Well into a ...

My daughter (8) and I both began guitar lessons from Steve over this past summer to try something new, and we really enjoyed having Steve as a teacher! I found him to be very friendly and easy-going, and was very patient with us both being beginners. He did a great job encouraging proper technique and good guitar habits - the things you cannot just learn from a book. My daughter had never had music lessons of any sort before, and I have played other instruments for 25+ years; despite our different backgrounds and level of musical knowledge, Steve was able to teach both of us effectively. I believe his ability to differentiate teaching style and instructional pace speaks to his overall knowledge of music, of guitar, and especially to his ability as a teacher. I would happily recommend Steve as a guitar teacher to anyone, either adult or child!

Our son looks forward to lessons with Steve!

Steve is a great drum teacher! He has been working with my son for almost a year. He is very patient and has a nice sense of humor (which is necessary when training kids).

He conducts a review with my son at the start of each session and offers words of encouragement throughout. After the lesson is over, Steve always confers with me and objectively reviews the lesson's achievements, parts to work on, and goals for next week. Our family recommends him for young and adult students!

Sara is amazing, and I recommend her as a vocal instructor for a variety of ages and needs. I’m an adult student learning guitar and wanted to be able to sing along without embarrassment. I have no vocal training nor performance experience and did not know where to begin. Sara is very encouraging, and is able to explain things clearly and guide me through learning how to sing. I've been making remarkable progress and gain more confidence and technique with each session.

I have seen a few teachers over the years. One who is currently a professor of voice at a prestigious university. One who holds many degrees in voice and speech pathology. Each has many successful students. However, none have been able to fix my problem. I started teaching myself voice after I "discovered" that I had a decent one when I first went to music school. However, I taught myself incorrect techniques which resulted in actual, physical pain. Since then I have spent years trying to correct this problem. I don't know exactly what Sara said or did, to be honest, but somehow she managed to dig inside my brain, connect the right neurons, and BOOM I can sing without hurting myself. It seems a bit sensational but it's the truth. If you want a voice coach who is professional, understanding, knowledgeable, and above all kind, then take some lessons with Sara.

Voytek is unbelievably positive and flexible. I've been working with him for about 6 months, and he started me off with a great set of lessons and materials that was right for me. He always focuses on what I do well, so I want keep playing, even when things get hard. When he points out something to work on, he somehow comes across positive - more like a helpful suggestion than a critique. Voytek has been knowledgable and flexible when I want to focus on music theory or just play songs that I like. I continue to work with him and would hire him for other types of lessons.

As an adult novice I was concerned about taking my first lessons without any musical background. However, Voytek has made it very easy and fun. I'm very happy with my choice of instructor and plan to continue for some time.
