Overview

Julia began her studies in music in 1994, performing in musical theatre productions, choir, jazz band and concert band, as well as private musical conventions.

In 2004 Julia entered the School of Music and Theatre Arts at Washington State University. She studied voice, piano and guitar and was an avid performer in the WSU Library Atrium Recital Series. Julia worked as the solo cantor and vocalist for the Catholic Church in her college town for 2 years. She was cast in 6 productions of the school's Opera Workshop Series including "Jane Eyre," "Naughty Marietta" and "Der Freitschutz." She also played her trumpet in the Cougar Marching Band for 2 seasons. She graduated with her degree in Music in 2010.

In 2010 and 2011 Julia instructed group piano courses in Seattle and Issaquah Public Elementary after-school programs. Today, Julia is a member of the Seattle Women's Choir, performs at private events, and instructs music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
The student will begin the lesson with a warm-up, consisting of a few scales and an easy song/choral. Depending on the students' level of expertise I may include a sight-reading or harmonic exercise.

Next the student will play through the assignments written down in their practice journal. We will celebrate the improvements and successes in order to encourage positive reinforcement, but also identify trouble spots in the music.

Next we will learn 1-3 new songs that will introduce new information. I love to end the lesson with a duet which are fun and interactive, encouraging the student to continue working hard and keep up with practice.

Each student brings a journal to every lesson where I record what they need to practice and prepare for our next meeting.

The level of intensity depends on what the student wishes. I make a personalized plan for each and every student depending on their goals and level of commitment.
