Hello Students/Parents:

I have been drumming for 19 years and currently I am playing professionally in the Bay Area. I studied Music Performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and at California State University, East Bay.
I am funny, friendly, outgoing, great with kids, , and have been teaching music for 4 years.

I tend to work mainly as a "For hire" drummer on multiple acts. Styles include: Pop/Rock/Funk/Reggae and Hip-hop.
I currently play with Street Drum Corps ("Percussion ensemble of the Year" from Drum Magazine! -2012)
I have been fortunate to have toured with great acts such as; The Vans Warped Tour, Rise of the Revolution, Collie Buddz, Blood and Water, The Phenomenauts, The Groovie Ghoulies, and many others. Also have shared the stage with: Neon Trees, Linkin Park, Bad Religion, The Limousines, Foster the people, Filter, Snoop Dogg, Sunspot Jonz, The Grouch, Murs, Living Legends, Tech-9, Andre Nickatina, and The Hieroglyphics’ Crew.

I have had the pleasure to study with such greats as; Mylious Johnson (Pink, Nsync) Berklee College of Music Percussion Staff, Rick Algeria (Bo Diddly, Paul Williams), Dawn Richardson (4 Non-Blondes, Tracy Chapman) and Mike Vanderhule (YNT).

I like all kinds of music from Classical to Punk rock, and everything in between. Some drummers who really inspire me are from some of my favorite bands/artists such as: No doubt, The Police, Isreal and New Breed, P!nk, Mental 99, Cream, Michael Jackson, Aretha franklin, and the Red hot chili Peppers.
Sharing my craft to make others happy is what makes me happy, and drum lessons should be fun, yet challenging.

Thanks for reading!
-Jeff W.

*** Lesson Details ***
During our first lesson we will discuss plans that cater to your needs, and customize them.
I want to help you reach your goals and make you happy as a drummer, so I am open to teach you anything no matter where your strength or weaknesses may fall.
Next, we will pick a fun area to work on, and a challenging area to conquer. For example: we will work on a fun song/groove-- then we will work on reading and/or rudiments.
I am also very patient and Flexible to those students whom have special needs, or want to go slower.

I teach using a combination of modern, traditional and personal books noted below:
A Fresh approach to the drum set, By Mark Wessels
Block Rockin’ Beats By: Dawn Richardson
Kids Rock Drumming! by: Dawn Richardson
Syncopation by: Ted Reed
Stick Control By: George Lawrence Stone
Popular music charts and lead sheets for drums are written by myself, for the student.

“When the student combines his/her playing with a strong practice, playing, and performance regimen, they are bound to get better and improve to continue making music a concrete hobby in their life.”

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio#1: Private Studio- Right in the heart of downtown San Mateo is this awesome place. One drum set (see picture), we will have a good time here.

Studio #2: This cozy studio is located right in the neighborhood of Campbell, CA. It is in conjunction with a residence. It has lots of cool art work, Two drum kits, and practice pads. This studio is fun, and friendly.

Studio#3:Private Residence: I would be more than happy to come to your home.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will bring the following: my laptop for music purposes and songs, and my curriculum.

I expect my student to have the following: A pair of sticks, a practice pad/or small sized drum kit, headphones of any kind, and a music stand. I will plan to use one drum set switching off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great lessons, great teacher It's only been 4 lessons but I really appreciate how the lessons are going. Jeff gives good explanations on how to read music and how to execute on the drums.Good pieces of advice too when some parts are hard to play ! February 8, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by I've gotten so much better! So far, with just having three lessons with Jeff, I feel that the amount that I have progressed in three weeks is far greater than the amount I've improved in the two years I've been drumming! I highly recommend Jeff to anybody. January 29, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great teacher really motivating Jeff is always keeping a motivating speech but is also challenging. I like the fact that he really designs the class depending on how much time I had to work during the week and how much progress I am making from one class to another! Thanks!!! July 2, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Feedback Hi, I wanted to let you know that we are really impressed with Jeff. I was wary of teaching a 4 year old how to play drums, but Jeff has been unbelievably patient and Mercer is so excited for his lessons each week. We're extremely impressed with Jeff as a teacher and a drummer. I would absolutely recommend him.! April 30, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Patient, talented, versatile drumming instructor I've never met a music teacher more friendly and laid back than Jeff. I've only done a month of lessons, but as a casual adult drumming student he's a great fit for my needs. He studied at Berklee and plays a lot of local gigs, so he also has a lot of credibility.
