Explore American History, Government, and Politics with a Fulltime University Professor

History and politics can be explosive topics these days. What really happened and why? How is the American system supposed to work...and how does it really work? If these are questions you want to unpack - or if you just need a quick hand working through a concept from school - this is the place. In addition to working here I am a fulltime university Professor of History and Political Science. My specialties include U.S. History, Native American History, International Relations, American National Government, and National Security. In a typical semester I teach a mix of history, political science, sociology, Native American studies, sociology, and law courses, so most things in those areas are fair game. While academic knowledge is important, I also bring a fairly broad set of professional experiences working in Army Intelligence and Special Forces and the U.S. government in posts from Afghanistan and Korea to Italy and Arizona. I look forward to getting to know you and joining you in tackling the tough issues of history, politics, and a bunch more.

I'm a fulltime professor of history and political science, teaching at two tribal universities and guest lecturing at Purdue and other schools. My academic specialties include international relations, American government, U.S. and world history, Islamic studies, military affairs and national security, and Native American history, policy, and law. While academics are rightly important, real-world experience matters too, and I have spent more than 35 years applying the things I teach, working around the world in military, government, and diplomatic roles in places from Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan to South Korea and Italy. Closer to home, I have worked in the Federal government, represented Native American issues in Congress and supporting economic, educational, and cultural development programs in Arizona and other states. Are we a match? Political Science, International Relations, and even History can be a challenge. The ideas and details can be overwhelming and there are programs and professors that present them in ways that are correct but miss the goal: helping students understand. We will begin wherever you are. If you have a good handle on things and want to explore more complex topics, we can do that. If you are starting out and want to learn - but some things just aren't sticking - that is ok too. We will get there together. If that sounds right, drop me a line and we can talk through a program to get you where you want to go.
