You Know It’s All About That Uke: Learning Ukulele in Dallas

By Robert M. - Dallas Ukulele Teacher

Dear Ukulele Enthusiast,

Let me start off with a big howdy and welcome to Dallas y’all! I am happy to provide some wonderful information about the keys to learning to play ukulele here in the famous Dallas-Fort Worth area, better known as DFW.

Now, if you are looking for a jumping off point for starting ukulele lessons in Dallas, then you need to get an instrument first! One place to look is at one of our big city music locations. There are a few landmark centers to seek out such as the infamous Sam Ash Music Store, as well as the unsurpassed surplus that both Guitar Center locations can offer. Guitar Center also features a huge selection of affordable instruments at their two locations with one in North Dallas and their epicenter in the Dallas Central Store which features a fully operable studio.

We can't forget to mention some of the great local shops. Make sure to visit and make friends at the ukulele enthusiast shop owned and operated by local legend Noel Tardy in the UkeLady Music Store where there are beginner workshops to help get you to meet with some neighborhood uke fanatics.

Did you know that there is a huge DFW ukulele community?

Make sure to hit the web and sign up on meetups.com so that you can join the over 800 members that band together as The Dallas Ukulele Headquarters. You can also find a link to the Dallas Ukulele News group that sends out happenings such as upcoming concerts. I won’t forget to mention that these folks seek out public jam sessions where uke players can come together for some fun!

The DFW has a lot to offer to up and coming musicians. I mean, we are talking about the home to huge music superstars like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kelly Clarkson, Steve Miller, Norah Jones, and many more! You too can get your start with open mic night at some of the most popular lounges, dives, bookstores, and cafes across the area. You can drive over to Half Price Books or Dunn Brothers Coffee every third week of the month to grab your piece of the spotlight. You can also try out weekly at Kay's Restaurant and LightHouse Coffee Shop. Make sure to keep up with the music venues and concert halls for musicians coming through such as the Kessler Theater and Bass Hall.

Don't wait to start your musical journey. Taking ukulele lessons in Dallas is a wonderful way to start making music and have fun along the way. Signing out from here in the beautiful state of Texas...

Musically Yours, Robert M.
