Learn how to write beautiful letters or just improve your penmanship!

I have several years of hands on instructional experience and a clear, patient, and easygoing manner that makes it really accessible for beginners to learn calligraphy. I practice several different lettering styles using a variety of materials and I can customize lessons to your supplies and level of experience. I have taught students ranging from ages 8 to 94! If you’re not sure what kind of calligraphy you want to learn, please book a single 15 or 30 minute lesson and I will guide you through the different types, including necessary supplies for each option. This mini lesson can also serve as a consultation for commissioned artwork.

Hello there! I am a professional calligrapher with 20 years of experience as a tutor, mentor, and coach. I operate my own business focused on handlettering using pointed pen, broad edge pen, brushes, paint, and chalk, as well as custom watercolor and papercut art. My undergraduate degree was in oil painting with a minor in architectural studies, after which I attended a certificate program in wooden yacht restoration. I began my dip pen calligraphy studies in 2016 and quickly built a portfolio working on projects for local restaurants and within the wedding industry. I began teaching calligraphy five years ago and have taught workshops to a wide range of students in a variety of settings. My aim is to make calligraphy accessible to everyone and to do so remotely, as well as in person when able. I welcome the opportunity to work virtually, one on one with private students from the safety of their own homes and I look forward to teaching you. Please note that if you book virtual lessons with me and fail to communicate changes or show up for your scheduled lesson, you will be marked as “missed” and charged for the time slot, unless there has been an actual emergency. All booked students receive my phone number and email address, as well as an email reminder 24 hours before class from Take Lessons; there is no excuse for not taking the time to request schedule changes at least FOUR HOURS before your lesson. If you repeatedly cancel on me the day of your lesson, you will be charged for the time I spend chasing you down to reschedule. I am very flexible and willing to work with you but I ask that you please respect my time and show me the same courtesy you would an in person teacher. We will most likely be using ZOOM for virtual lessons.

Experience

Owner and lead artist

Apr, 2017 - Present

Private Company

I use a combination of dip pen, paint, and chalk to letter menus and artwork for restaurants and bars and to complete a variety of privately commissioned projects. From quotes on paper to acrylic wall signage and vintage suitcases- no surface is too difficult, though it may involve some serious contortion! I specialize in wedding services and bespoke gifts and have turned many original designs into greeting cards sold at small boutiques and craft shows. I also teach workshops and do live lettering for brand activations.

Woodworker & Finisher

Jan, 2011 - Mar, 2016

Key West Woodworks

I primarily spent my time restoring and maintaining a marine varnish program on vintage yachts in addition to small repairs using chisels and traditional hand tools.
