My daughter has only had her first lesson with Lindsay but we were both impressed with her. She is friendly and was able to make the exercises very tailored to her specific needs and goals. We are looking forward to continuing to work with her.

Lindsay has been an amazing yoga/ballet instructor for me. I started taking beginners ballet lessons with her in June of 2019 and she was so patient with me. I later on decided to take yoga with her a couple months later and she is just nothing short of awesome! She is very well spoken during yoga and really knows what she’s doing. She always accommodates with my needs and makes sure I’m comfortable with whatever we’re practicing for that day. For example she’ll ask how I’m doing that day and if I say I’m feeling anxious, we’ll do a relaxing and calming session, or we might do something more physical and energetic if I need to get hyper and start my day energized. She has obviously had a lot of experience in this field and it really does show. I’m super glad I chose lindsay to be my instructor and would never consider going with anyone else.

I love taking my online classes with Lindsay! Having a really busy schedule, I thought at first this was an indulgence to have a class in the comfort of my own home, however I've rethought that since I've started. These are necessary to keeping, not just my physique in shape, but my ballet up to par, as well as my mental state of being calm, focused & happy. Lindsay is very skilled at shifting each class to what is best for me that day. She's skilled & knowledgeable, proficient, professional, friendly, fun & gives me a thorough workout! Thank you Lindsay!

Sacha is an amazing teacher! She helped my daughter to learn how to connect her emotions to convey a story through her dance movements, something my daughter was lacking at first but after a couple of sessions with Sacha, my daughter became a better at it. Although my daughter has great technique, it’s important to tell a story through your movements and Sacha helped her with that. My daughter has already been to 2 different dance competitions and has won first in her category and overall. Her other teachers, friends and family were amazed when my daughter danced on stage and they noticed the change in her when she performed. She had so many compliments. I will definitely recommend Sacha and will definitely be using her again for my daughter. Thank you Sacha!

I am a teacher of 13 years and I love what I do!

Ballet is a great workout in addition to being the foundation for all technical dance. It's a great place to start and always to come back to. Ballet has many benefits to offer students at every level, which is why even Pro football players take it!

Through ballet lessons with me, you will stabilize find better balance and control, strengthen, tone, and elongate your muscles, have increased flexibility and mobilization, improve your coordination and confidence, and much more.

My ballet lessons cover basics of posture, placement, alignment, and turnout. We begin practicing essentials such as positions, plies, tendus, pirouettes and more. Once the student shows proficiency in these basics, we move into more advanced movement and choreography. There is strong focus on technical precision and skill to ensure students are learning the correct foundation so they get the maximum benefit out of their ballet lessons. ...

"We (my grand daughter and I ) did not know what to expect. I did try to prepare by having the room and computer ready and by making notes about what G needed to review. Sara is an excellent teacher and started with a warm up that included feet. G is a full time gymnast and her Achilles had been tight and sore and this was very beneficial. Sara had G doing basic barre work, then she worked on her musicality, progressions and turns. It provided G with the correction and attention that she cannot receive in her regular ballet class and best of all we were able to stay home. It is great for my grand daughter's situation because she does not have to commute one more time in the week. Visually Sara made corrections as G was doing her movement, that is a testament to Sara's professionalism, expertise and training. It also shows that even a technology deficient grandmother can make this work."

Private Ballet Lessons Near You

If you've ever experienced a performance of "The Nut Cracker" or "Swan Lake," then you've been enchanted by the magic of ballet. When a beautifully costumed dancer glides across the stage, pirouettes, or performs a lift so seemingly effortlessly that it looks like they're moving through butter, the audience can't help but admire the strength, grace, and perfected art that makes up the core of ballet.

Ballet first originated as a form of performance dance during the 15th century Italian Renaissance. Later, in Russia and France, the dance form developed into a type of concert dance. Today, people dance ballet around the world. It's evolved into a highly technical form of dance, described with its own French-based terminology.

Why You Should Learn Ballet

Many start

...

learning ballet because they dream of being like the danseurs (dancers) they see on stage in a professional ballet performance. Whether you join a ballet company and dance professionally or not, you'll benefit from learning ballet. There're are plenty of reasons why ballet dancing is a worthwhile pursuit.

Learning ballet can improve the other styles of dance you study. Classically trained dancers usually stand out (for good reasons) because of the basics, like great posture and alignment, which ballet stresses. If you love contemporary jazz or even hip hop dancing, then a few ballet classes could help you improve your technique.

Ballet is also very healthy. You'll strengthen your muscles, exercise your heart, improve your posture, and increase your flexibility. These physical effects of ballet are good for dancers of every age and every ability. Learning ballet is a great way to get in shape and stay physically fit.

The Best Way to Learn Ballet and What You'll Practice in Ballet Classes

Although it's easy to find plenty of free ballet classes and tutorials online, there's no better way to learn than with a private ballet tutor. In private lessons, you'll receive immediate feedback and personalized instruction that simply isn't possible with free tutorials or in a larger class setting. Working one-on-one with a private ballet teacher, you can focus on overcoming your individual challenges and the choreography that interests you most.

Plus, every personal class is different. Teachers fully customize course content to meet each student's needs, with subject matter tailored to your learning level, age, and interests. For example, ballet lessons for children differ greatly from ballet classes for adults, in terms of teaching methods and content.

Sample Curriculum for Beginner Ballet

If you have little or no previous experience with ballet, then beginner lessons will start you out with your best tippy-toes forward. In these lessons, your teacher will introduce you to the basic principles and techniques of ballet. You'll learn what makes ballet, ballet and begin learning some beginner-level choreography. Your teacher might cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to common ballet terms
  • Learn the five basic positions
  • Basic ballet etiquette
  • Standing at the barre and proper posture
  • Easy dance steps

Sample Curriculum for Intermediate Ballet

If you're already familiar with the basics of ballet, but haven't yet mastered most ballet moves, then intermediate lessons are right for you. In these classes, your teacher will challenge you to push yourself to the next level, as you work on increasingly complicated and challenging choreography. You'll grow stronger, improve balance, and increase your flexibility. Your teacher might choose to cover the following topics:

  • Improve alignment and increase body awareness
  • Barre, floor, and traveling exercises
  • Increased musicality and expression
  • Practice the eight body positions
  • Turns, larger movements, and phrasing

Sample Curriculum for Advanced Ballet

Advanced lessons are intended for seasoned danseurs or danseuses (dancers). In advanced lessons, your private ballet tutor will work to help keep you in shape and prevent you from suffering an injury. You'll have the opportunity to work on new choreography with a professional and continue to further improve your strength and grace of movement. Advanced lesson content depends greatly on the student's interests and goals, but your instructor might cover the following:

  • Advanced combinations
  • Strength, balance, and flexibility exercise
  • Audition preparation
  • Ballet performance preparation
  • Navigating the dance industry

The Fast Way to Find a Ballet Teacher Near You

If you're ready to learn how to whirl and twirl like a professional dancer, you'll need to find a private teacher. Luckily, TakeLessons makes finding a private ballet tutor easy. A simple search will lead you to pages of highly qualified and experienced teachers who offer private lessons both online and in-person. Be sure to read through profiles and reviews to find a teacher who offers classes to students in the right age group and experience level.

The price of ballet lessons varies, but most teachers charge a per-lesson, time-based rate. If you truly want to learn ballet, then studying with a private teacher is the way to go! You'll find your investment in lessons pays off, as you progress quickly, grow stronger, and become more graceful after only your first few lessons.
