Music is a magical thing. Performers and composers alike will tell you how special and enjoyable the gift of thinking, breathing, and feeling music really is. But giving that gift away to others is priceless. It is the most gratifying experience in the whole world. As a performer and composer myself, I feel so lucky every time I’m working on a new composition/arrangement, or every time I step in front of a new audience, on a new stage, in a new city, or in a new country. Yet, as a San Jose guitar teacher the feeling I get every time I step into a new lesson and meet a new student is a collage of excitement that can hardly be matched. Every student I teach guitar lessons to is a new story, a unique window into a culture, a tradition, and a new friendship. Every student is a new magical world filled with its own dreams, goals, and challenges. This is exactly why I’m deeply in love with teaching guitar lessons in San Jose. The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the culturally richest places in the nation. The mix of traditions, ethnicities, cultures, and customs from all over the world is simply astonishing and this to me is the ultimate arena for a teacher. As an educator, I feel very blessed to be able to learn about my students’ heritage, their cultures, their traditions, and their experience in society. After all, music is the true universal language and one of the most important lessons it teaches us is the notion of community and sharing.
