I was sixteen when I took my first voice lesson. I walked out of that lesson knowing passionately this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Most people would say that was obvious “you’ve loved singing and haven’t stopped since you were eight.” They misunderstand. I do truly love to sing and perform, but I was referring to teaching others to sing, especially my students in San Diego.

The joy I have experienced and shared over the past 15 years, while teaching singing lessons is indescribable. To have the opportunity to share what I love with others on a daily basis is a great experience. I’ve laughed with my students, cried with them, and at times been in awe of them. Singing is extremely personal because you reach into the core of your being and display it on a platter for everyone to see and hear. It’s frightening if you really think about it, but if you learn to trust your audience with your heart, you can become an amazing artist.

You can choose to become an artist, an entertainer, or combine the two. Here in San Diego, I have one seven year old student who is a natural entertainer and another who is well on her way to becoming an artist. My adult students have various goals ranging from performing, to singing in tune, and to overcoming stage fright. Spoken or unspoken, my ultimate goal for them is self-fulfillment, while also creating art. If you are willing, your journey starts the moment you walk into the studio.
