Teaching Piano Lessons in San Diego

Francesca V.

By Francesca V. - San Diego Piano Teacher

My name is Francesca, and I teach piano lessons in San Diego. After a recent relocation, I was able to build a thriving studio teaching piano in less than 6 months. When my friends and colleagues heard that I had more than 60 students in such a short time, the air was filled with gasps and questions. They asked “In this economy? How do you do that?” or “How do you teach that many students and not burn out?” People are always looking for me to answer semantically, but I feel it is a philosophical question. I built a studio teaching piano in San Diego around my philosophy, and thus it thrived.

I think the secret to having a buzzing studio is the same as what makes a respectable musician. A great teacher shares her love of music with her students. She doesn’t just push rules at them. She remains curious about her art and is fearless in her exploration of it. My pet peeve is artists who refuse to improvise. Improvisation is a core component of musical expression. We must play with our instrument and dig into our studies. We must think more as young children do and thrive off inquisitiveness. Children do not fear being wrong. They sing and play with a reckless abandon that we can all learn from (one of the reasons I love teaching kids). The trick is to love what we do and have the courage to give it value. Remember this as you embark upon your quest to find a great piano instructor. Good luck!
