About Curtis

Hello! I'm a supportive, positive and patient teacher who is passionate about helping my students. Each individual student learns differently and with my professional performance background and having studied in the world renown Guitar Institute of Technology(GIT) program at Musicians Institute, I have gained a well rounded skill set to guide my students in achieving their musical goals.

Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1, published by Hal Leonard.

Intermediate - Advanced:

Suggested Reading Material: Music Reading for Guitar (Complete Method) published by Musicians Institute.

Javier A.

Sacramento, CA

About Javier

My name is Javier and I love to teach !

I am originally from Guanajuato, Mexico and in my last year of high school, I decided to take private piano lessons with a local teacher and it was during this time period that I learned classical pieces by Beethoven and Mozart. I also took music notation and I tried a hand at composing, discovering a new way to communicate in terms of music.

After moving to the USA, I resume my music education, learning new concepts on classical, blues and pop styles, as well as chord progression and accompaniment pieces. After a year and after completing the teac
her training program, I started to teach piano from my home studio.

During this time, I took upon myself two more years of intense composition study and experimenting with some of the secrets of this art, which now has become one of my passion. In 2007 I earned a diploma from this institution and in the same year I released two CDs of my own compositions: Van Gogh Sunflower's and Dimes y Diretes.

This year I have enrolled in a music program at the Music Conservatory of San Francisco, where I am expecting to learn and expand my knowledge on technique, performing, and music ensembles.

For six years, I have been teaching successfully from my home studio, teaching students of all ages and with different music backgrounds.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach piano and I specialize in classical and contemporary music styles

I am a strong believer of traditional teaching methods, however, I have learn that we all learn in different ways, so I let my students discover music by teaching them how to relate to the piano first, after they become familiar with the instrument by playing easy but wonderful melodies I start with the process of teaching music notation, scales, chords, analyzing songs, music history, exercises.

I teach all ages, I am very patient and supportive, never pushy but firm with my students goals.

Seth B.

San Francisco, CA

About Seth

Seth is a teacher, performer and composer from the Bay Area. He has been teaching privately for the past seven years on a variety of instruments. He has performed in Vienna, Paris, San Francisco, Berkeley and Sacramento with classical orchestras, and as a soloist and in multiple bands.

***VIOLIN***

Seth has experience with the Suzuki Method, but teaches using his own style that is geared towards each student's strengths. He has helped his many students achieve proficiency on the violin.

It is Seth's belief that music was made to be made with others. He accompanies his classical stud
ents on the violin, and his traditional students on the mandolin. He teaches his students with an emphasis on ensemble playing, to prepare them for orchestral and chamber music, not only solo playing.

Seth studied violin classically with William Barbini, Catherine Heusner-Willefert and Florie Brown. He has taken classes led by fiddlers Alasdair Fraser, Jeremy Kittel and Mark O'Connor.

***MUSIC THEORY***

Seth studied Composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under Elinor Armer. He has studied traditional harmony, counterpoint. His own compositions feature traditional and 20th century harmonies, serialism and free atonality.

Seth teaches music theory from the ground up, beginning with chord constructing and going all the way to formal analysis.

Alfredo is just 7 years old, and he was so excited. Arend did a great job, encouranging and reviewing and giving him information he could understand , so he was able to actually play what he was reading. I am the grandma and his parents were there. We all loved the teacher and the lesson. Great Job Arend.
When we left and were walking to the car, Alfredo was on cloud nine, dancing and posing. Super excited to continue classes with Arend.
