Tyanna W.

Raleigh, NC

About Tyanna

I've been teaching private lessons since 2005 and have loved helping my students learn proper vocal technique, music theory & ear training, as well as ace an audition! I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in vocal music from North Carolina Central University. I'm an energetic and fun person and my teaching style too! My aim is to provide you with the skills to make you more confident in your singing voice. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!

What to expect:

I like to start with a light physical warm up. Then, we will move on to some vocal exercises. After we're fully warmed up,
we will then work the song of your choice. Have upcoming auditions? No problem! I can help you prepare for your audition or performance! Grab yourself a bottled water, and get ready to sing!

Tyanna was so great! I had to prepare for an audition and she helped me immensely!
She has a great personality and is super patient with you! She helps you to find what's great about your voice and also what you need to improve. I definitely would recommend her, especially to anyone who is looking for a broadway/musical theater singing teacher! :)

Cary, NC

About Carolyn

I am a pianist and theorist who is enthusiastic about helping you learn more about music! I have a Bachelors of Music Performance from Appalachian State University and a Masters of Music Theory from Bowling Green State University. Music is one of my passions, a passion I would love to share with you!

I have experience with classical, classic, jazz, and Broadway music, among other genres. My performance and scholarly studies were primarily classical, but not limited to classical music.

Whether you pursue performance, scholarship, a greater appreciation of music, or simply a fun experience
, I will help you reach your goals! None of these is exclusive, as all of them should be fun!

*** Lesson Details ***
I prefer to teach in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where the student can ask questions and offer opinions without fear. I am a patient and encouraging teacher, though I do expect students to prepare for lessons and improve over time. Lessons and curricula are tailored to the individual, depending on the student's goals. Should those goals change over the course of his/her study, the curriculum and lesson format will reflect that change. I believe in a well-rounded education, incorporating not only memorization or sight-reading (for example), but the underlying theories and relevant historical information. Most importantly, I will endeavor to make lessons enjoyable as well as educational for all involved!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide sight-reading/singing materials, handouts, and copies of music. I expect the student to provide his/her own instrument, textbook, and staff paper.

*** Specialties ***

Excellent piano teacher!! Very patient, kind, reliable and communicates very well with my 10 yo son. She is so enthusiastic and has really gotten my son interested in music, despite that he is very shy. I have been impressed with how quickly my son has learned to play the piano in just a few months. We have been so thrilled with Carolyn that our other two children are to start lessons this month!!

Excellent instructor, very relaxed atmosphere and provided a lot of good information. Especially liked that fact that he took the time to cover what was needed rather than strict adherence to the clock. Highly recommend his as a music instructor.

Kevin is very well versed in musical instruments. We took an older clarinet to him and he identified what type it was and was able to play it and teach how to play it. Looking forward to more lessons.

Incredibly knowledgeable in physical techniques required for guitar; He is a master of all the subjective hands-on knowledge you can't learn from a video or a book, like individual hand/wrist placement, strength building, muscle memory, string bending. His curriculum is excellent for developing the raw ability to play as desired.

We initially did lessons in person then transitioned to Skype once I moved away. I found no difference between in-person or Skype.

Before I became a student under my teacher, I thought that my previous teacher was good. However, looking back, my first teacher (Not Robert Grant), was horrible. The one distinct difference between many of the casual guitar teachers and Robert is that he has a great curriculum for teaching kids and adults the proper techniques, different styles, and practices for playing the guitar. I remember on the first lesson, he immediately commented my wrong form for my picking hand. Since then he has assisted me in correcting bad technique, pursuing my strengths and passions, and expanding my knowledge in music theory, both specific for guitar and for music in general. His curriculum is equal if not better than many college courses for music(classical, jazz, etc. courses). I have been with him for 3-4 years now and I find myself greatly improved from when I first started. I would recommend going to Robert if you want to seriously learn how to play the guitar with a brilliantly structured course.

I've been playing guitar for 28 years and Robert has done more to advance my playing in the last 5 months than anything else I've done over that time. Whether online or in person, Robert has a great mix of laid back attitude with a task-master's approach; he encourages his students to have fun with the guitar, but to take it and their work with it seriously. In a really short time, I've picked up a wealth of music theory and my technique has improved dramatically. Most importantly, I'm having more fun playing than I have in years. I can't recommend Robert highly enough.

My seven-year-old son has been taking piano lessons with Elizabeth for the last 8 months. I was worried he wouldn’t be interested given he started 4 months after he received his keyboard, and I thought the novelty of the idea may have worn off. I was completely wrong. Elizabeth has done a wonderful job motivating him and making the lessons fun. She is very accommodating to the needs and likes of each child as well as communicating concepts to parents who don’t know how to play. Thanks to her efforts, my son practices without being asked most of the time. I highly recommend her if your child is ready for piano lessons.
