Amber C.

Irvine, CA

I always start with warm-up vocalizing. Then, we work on songs, depending on the student and type of voice, and always including music theory, the foundation. Each student is unique; so I customize the lessons and repertoire to suit each student.

About Amber

I am an experienced, enthusiastic music instructor, who started playing piano around 8 years of age and participated in many musical activities. I received my Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Massachusetts, majoring in Music Education (voice and piano). I have appeared around the world as a soloist singing jazz and pop, including the Blue Note, NYC, and appeared as a guest soloist at the 2000 Southern California Summer Special Olympics. I also participated in ensemble groups such as the Masterworks Chorale in NYC, and the Verdi Opera Chorus of Southern California; and curr
ently I volunteer at the Senior Center leading/accompanying the Sing-Alongs.

Inspired by my love of music, I have been teaching piano and voice for over 20 years from NY to LA and now Orange County. In conjunction with my teaching skills, I have excellent communication skills, patience and enthusiasm, and work well with children and all ages. I feel that music is an important part of education, and it aids in the development of cognitive and motor skills. And most of all, it is fun and rewarding, and a skill to last a lifetime!

Cymbaline O.

Fullerton, CA

Beginning with classical technique, working with exercises and warm-ups to increase flexibility, tone, and range. Studying a variety of styles, based on both the needs and preferences of the student and the teacher, including classical, Broadway, jazz, contemporary, pop, etc.

About Cymbaline

Cymbaline has been performing all her life. She began dance training at age 5, singing on stage at age 7, piano instruction at age 8, and flute at age 9. She has pursued the performing arts in her training, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (Vocal Performance and Education) from Azusa Pacific University, as well as a Masters in Education from Grand Canyon University. Cymbaline has been seen on stage in many musical theater productions, including playing Marian in The Music Man, Anna in The King and I, and the Blue Girl in Shout! She has also done theater and film, including playing
Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. She has taught voice, piano, and flute privately, as well as voice and musical theater classes. She has a great desire to pass on the knowledge she has gained through education and experience to anyone who has the desire to learn. She loves seeing students grow in the knowledge of music and performance and learning to apply their new skills. Music is the universal language, and the ability to play and sing will open up new doors of expression for each individual.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students can expect a strict teacher who also shows compassion. I will do everything in my power to help the student grow and achieve. It is up to the student to apply what they are learning so that they can move forward. I teach out of a variety of curriculum, depending on how the student best learns. For flute, I prefer the "Standard of Excellence" series, which, if they are in a band program, can be used for both group and individual study. For piano, the "Alfred" series is a very good tool, with lesson, performance, theory, and compositions books in multiple levels. For voice, I have a number of books that I use to pull material from depending on their level of ability and experience. I teach a classically based curriculum, focusing on correct breathing, posture, and technique. Once a person knows and is able to follow the rules of singing with a quality sound and solid technique, that person may then learn to bend those rules for other styles and genres that require different technique. After three months with me, I expect students, especially instrumental students, to have basic knowledge of reading music. They should be able to recognize notes and rhythms and where they are on the piano keyboard, or how they are fingered on the flute, or where they are (at least approximately) in their voice. I also will expect them to have some understanding and application of dynamics, tempos, time signatures, and other basics of music reading. After six months, I expect them to be able to play or sing one or more short-length songs all the way through correctly and consistently, with musicality. I will focus on details, and not let students who truly want to learn develop their ability in a mediocre capacity. I expect my students to practice, will encourage them to give 100%, and help them strive to be a little better each day than they were the day before.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
Keyboard - 88-key/66-key. Flute. Guitar.

*** Specialties ***
I am first a classical singer, and teach classical vocal technique as a foundation to any voice student. I also perform musical theater, and have taught music theater repertoire as a bridge between opera, or classical style singing to more modern forms. I am a dancer and have performed in musicals and operettas, and can teach stage presence, projection, body movement, and facial expression. I studied flute and played in wind ensembles through college. I also have played piano and accompanied for many years.

Varin I.

Chino Hills, CA

I have been coaching singers for over five years and many of my singers have gone on to perform solos at their community events. Within the first lesson, you will be able to breathe and phrase properly. After your second lesson, you will be able to vibrato and mix. The following lessons will address your wants and needs as singer because we all want different sounds. For a reference guide, I typically use The Singing Book by Dayme & Vaughn, Singing for the stars by Seth Riggs, and have the following tools for your lessons: a CD recorder and a Casio electronic keyboard. Each lesson will be recorded onto a CD so you do not have to take notes, you get to practice recommended scales and exercises, and critique your own voice. If you do not understand something then, you will might understand some key concepts later in your vocal journey. I love working with musicians of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you.

About Varin

Songwriter / Producer
Instruments: Piano, Vocals, Guitar/Bass, Drums
DAWS: Reason, FL, Waves, & Pro Tools
Member of BMI, ASCAP, and SESAC (2011-Present)

If you would like to schedule an appointment at a different time, please ask and I will do my best to make that arrangement.

What's inside the singing lesson?

Lessons revolve around three basic aspects which are training, singing, and acting.

In training, definitely be ready for some scale exercises. If you want to work on making your vibrato faster, breathe better, sing more loud or soft, sing short or longer phrases, co
ntrolling your mix, executing your melismas, r&b licks, blue notes, bending notes, singing super high notes and transitioning down to lower notes: balancing head and chest voice, and expanding your range, then vocal training is what you'll need. Most of this activity involves matching sounds to custom scales played on a piano.

In singing, definitely have a song in mind you want to work on. Then we'll discuss which techniques and skills that are essential for that particular genre of music. Other than that, you'll learn singer's diction and will know how to control vowel sounds and consonants more efficiently. Most of this activity involves you singing either a line, a verse, chorus, bridge, or the entire song. It really depends on what level you feel comfortable at. Most of this activity revolves around breathing techniques, phrasing techniques, and you singing the melody correctly on pitch.

In acting, whether you're recording or performing, you'll still need to put an act together. Portrayal of emotions are quite the essential skills to make your sound believable. If singing with feeling is not working out for you, then you might want to consider working on some basic acting skills. Some of the skills covered are voice inflections, rhythm, gestures, body language, and facial expressions. Most of this activity involves you expressing yourself as an artist.

How to be prepared for the lesson?

If you do not have a piano or recording device on hand, I'll provide both devices for you. It's recommended to provide a piano. It doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to be in tuned. If it's digital, you should be fine. It's also recommended to have a recording device. Many clients enjoy recording their lessons on their mp3 players or any other computer devices. Please have a clean and clear space with an electrical outlet for the piano and recording device. Other than that, please wear comfortable clothing as if you are about to play a sport or an activity you enjoy. If you want to dress like a super star that's fine too.

If you're taking lessons online, don't worry about anything because everything will be provided.

Whether you would like to sing classical, jazz, pop, musical theatre, R&B, opera, country, gospel, folk or any other style, I would like to help you find your true voice and learn techniques that will help you sing powerfully, healthfully, and artfully in any genre. The voice is an instrument, and like any other it can be used to create beautiful music and to express the deepest emotion. About Eulis

--------------- I also teach Online via Skype or FaceTime! --------------------
Hello! Thanks for visiting my Takelessons profile. Let me start off by telling you a bit about myself:
I have been performing for over 20 years as a musician, acting since I was a small boy, and working consistently with public speaking, accent reduction and other presentational skills throughout my career. I started my musical education as a woodwind player and settled in to the wonderful world of singing over time. Music has opened me up to so many incredible opportunities from touring the world to performin
g in marvelous concert halls and working with some of today's most respected artists, as well as giving me the opportunity to expand my performance skills through acting in various plays, musicals, television, and film.

Performing has absolutely been my salvation! Throughout my life it has been a best friend and constant source of joy, and I share this gift with others so that it might help them to find the same joy. After more than 10 years of teaching, I have so many new experiences to draw from and share with my students. I've spent the last 8 years performing with Disney in Anaheim and abroad in their Tokyo Disney cast, and I must say that those experiences, vast and varied as they are, have given the word "performance" a new depth. I'm always excited to dive into every lesson with fresh ideas that will mesh well with many tried and tested teaching techniques.

Originally from Los Angeles, I now reside in Orange County and I'm especially proud to have expanded my studio to serving clients all over the world with online lessons via Skype and FaceTime! I get such joy from sharing my experiences with a diverse group of people from all walks of life.
If you're interested in learning more about my lesson style, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to talk with you about a plan to help you reach your goals!

For Students of Voice: Teaching Style

Over the past several years I have focused much of my personal growth on developing my ears' ability to pick out and pinpoint vocal “placement”, resonance, subtleties of timbre, changes in pitch, breath support, air speed and flow, pronunciation and diction, and in general, the way in which all of these work together to create style. From these assessments, I work with the student’s particular needs to address each area individually and based on the learning style of each person.
To illustrate to the student their method as I see and hear it, as well as ways in which they might make changes to facilitate the ease of singing --be they changes of tessitura (range), length of phrase, tone color, the release of unnecessary tension etc.-- I make use of vocalise (vocal exercises), simile and metaphor, examples from recorded performances, demonstration, self assessment, and techniques to “trick” the voice into acting in a different way, in addition to videos, diagrams, and texts on anatomy and physiology. I feel that all of these tools provide a unique and personalized learning experience for each student.
