Each lesson is tailored to fit each individual student. We will cover genres of music that is of interest to you, using music you enjoy most so learning the guitar will be fun. Even if you have experience playing guitar, I will be able to show you alternative strum patterns, picking patterns, useful techniques, tricks and short-cuts to make playing easier. This applies to whether you are learning acoustic, classical or electric guitar. I have a blast teaching and my students have fun learning!

Once we learn how to read, nothing can stop us from playing! After that it all depends on what you want to do with your guitar. Classical guitar is a gate to all music genres and music theory will definitely bring your level higher + it gives you confidence.
-Also as a performance major musician, I have the ability to play the techniques I teach and simply explain how it is done in today's guitar world.

Greetings! I'm currently offering lessons on guitar, songwriting, music theory, music production and arranging, as well as improvisation.

I'm a Grammy and Gold-record winning musician, with 40+ years experience. I was a member of Wilco for seven years. I've also recorded and toured with Theaster Gates, Liz Phair, Andrew Bird, Beth Orton, Iron and Wine, and many others. I've performed numerous times on Leno, Conan, Letterman, and more. I attended Berklee College of Music and have a Bachelor's degree in jazz performance from Columbia College. And I've performed in musicals in both New York and Chicago and read music very well.

I have over 30 years experience as a private teacher. I take each lesson seriously and will be sure to pack in as much material and playing time into the lesson as we can. I offer engaging and personalized guitar lessons for students. We build upon fundamentals skills through each lesson as the student learns their favorite songs. We also explore different aspects of music including improvisation, theory, composition, and even recording their own music. I provide study materials such as PDF files, backing tracks and videos to help students review what we cover in the lessons.

I had the privilege of receiving my B.A. in Guitar Performance from Berklee College of Music where I had the opportunity of learning and performing with great musicians from around the world. Because of my experience working with students of all ages from kids to adults, I truly believe that I can help anyone accomplish their musical goals!

My goal is not so much teaching one how to play an instrument, but more broadly, to help one cultivate their own living musicality. My own areas of practice, study, and specialization are in free improvisation, sound art/Sonic sculpture, conceptual performance, and songwriting/composition. I've explored a vast number of different styles and genre. Jazz, classical, folk and bluegrass, spirituals, blues, punk rock, contemporary ghospel, electronic dance and ambient, to name a few...
