Each lesson is tailored to fit each individual student. We will cover genres of music that's of interest to you, using music you enjoy most so learning the instrument will be fun. Even if you have experience playing acoustic guitar, I will be able to show you alternative strum patterns, useful techniques, tricks and short-cuts to make playing easier. I have a blast teaching and my students have fun learning!

Steven specializes in finger-style acoustic blues and jazz guitar. Lessons can be via Take Lessons or Zoom. Lessons are often customized the students' interests.

Steven studied Classical Guitar, Lute, and Electronic Music at Humboldt State University, College of the Redwoods, and The Evergreen State College, where he obtained his degree in Music in 1984.

Whether you want to be a weekend warrior who plays around the campfire, or someone who wants to study at a professional or advanced level, we can make that happen!!!! My unique approach to teaching guitar will have you playing guitar on the first day. No joke.

Learning how to play guitar is easy, with my step-by-step method (additional book purchase required). I give students the opportunity to learn simple technique that sets them up for future learning and beyond!
You'll learn how to hold your instrument, the parts of your instrument, how to tune it, placing fingers on the strings to get the best sound, strumming and picking. I'll throw in reading various types of written music covering chords and theory. You'll receive instruction, demonstration, and exercises for the very basics of operating it so you can master them in literally no time, and quickly move on to expanding technique and playing songs. You'll also learn how to sing and play at the same time so you can entertain your friends with the latest cover songs!
