I have been teaching drums since 2003, and I start my students using The Drumset Musician, by Rick Mattingly and Rod Morgenstein. I also choose materials, from my extensive library, to address the needs of each individual. I am familiar with rock, country, blues, jazz, and world grooves, as well as marching band and orchestra. I teach the components of and purposes of voices within the set, proper grip, reading music, coordination, and feel. I also teach students how to analyze and map songs, so they can excel in a band setting. If a student is wanting to be in marching and symphonic bands, I can prepare them for those pursuits, as well. I have two sets in my studio, as well as abundant hand and auxiliary percussion instruments.

Professional, versatile drummer with over 16 years of experience and as a professional player and a range of styles runs the gamut from playing stadiums to small clubs, from touring internationally to working in the studio, from playing speed punk with Rehasher to playing soul and funk music with The Savants of Soul.

Our lessons together will focus on four main areas: hand technique and fundamentals, techniques for building drum set vocabulary, application of technique through musical performance and mentorship in building your music career.

Whether you're just getting started and want to know the basics or you're an advanced player looking to gain some new insight or techniques, I want to help you have have fun in your own journey through music -- professional or otherwise.

I've been teaching beginning and intermediate drum students on and off for the last 15 years, and I'm excited to take on more students at this time. All ages welcome. Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. Learn drum set so you can play in a band, get going on rudiments and make the snare line, focus on orchestral technique, or get a mix of whatever interests you.

I studied Afro-Cuban Percussion, Percussion and Drums at the University of Northern Colorado, the nation's 3rd largest Jazz school. I bring 17+ years of education and teaching experience to the table.

I offer 24 years of experience playing, and 17 years teaching privately and as a public school band director. My curriculum focuses on technique, theory, style, and interpretation.

To develop quality drumming technique, an emphasis on playing position, grip, and sticking is incorporated in each portion of a given lesson.

The importance of theory and rudiments is outlined and taught with each lesson. A challenging assignment to improve technical ability and music theory knowledge directly correlated to the assigned repertoire will help students understand the structure of the music they are practicing.

Students will dedicate practice time to both rudimental drumming and set drumming. Demonstrating the highest level of performance and knowledge of a piece is the desired result. A portion of each lesson is also dedicated to students learning the various styles on the drum set.

I began learning the drums 20 years ago, and have spent the last 12 years sharing that knowledge with students. I’ve taught students from ages 7 - 50 +, all with various sets and and goals. Over the last 10 years, I've been fortunate to travel with world with various rock bands, and have learned from many experienced live players. My goal is to teach you the fundamentals of the instrument, while demonstrating how those fundamentals work in a real musical way.
