*** Lesson Details ***
I believe it is important for a student to feel he/she is in a comfortable environment, which is why I tailor each lesson based on the student. I take into account not only natural talent and level of experience, but also progression and devotion. Whether the student is an adult looking to start a new and fun hobby, or a child with major aspirations to be come one of the greats, I can make sure either one gets the necessary instruction at a comfortable pace. For beginning drummers, I like to start with fundamentals and light theory, and certain physical exercises (which help make the limbs independent of each other). I also like to get the student to familiarize themselves with the instrument. I start of with easy rhythms on a drum pad (usually from a beginners percussion book), and slowly work up to working with a high-hat, snare, bass drum configuration. Once you're ready for the fun stuff, we can start incorporating easy songs you've always wanted to play, and then start moving the difficulty level up and up. All in all I try to combine the fun that comes with playing along to the songs you love, with a strong foundation of fundamentals and theory which will help you progress faster but with ease. For students that have already had some experience either percussive or behind the kit, we can assess your level of experience and move from there.

For beginning guitarist, I begin by familiarizing the student with the instrument, and some very basic theory and tuning. We then move on to simple patterns to get those calluses on those finger tips. Then we start with chord charts and strumming rhythms. Followed by the fun stuff, which is actually playing a song. I am very open to my student's tastes and encourage them to bring in songs they would like to learn, because I when someone is familiar with a particular song, it can be almost as if your fingers naturally know what to do. I can teach both electric, classical acoustic, and steel acoustic guitars. For students who are further along, I like to assess their particular level first, and go on from there.

Drums: I provide a full kit, with necessary extras to for accompaniment. A stereo for playback, some recording equipment if needed. Books and necessary copies, although I encourage students to purchase their own instruction books. practice pad and extra sticks, music stand

Fabio worked very well with my 9 yr grandson at his first drum lesson. Fabio was positive, encouraging, and patient with my grandson who does not always have a very long attention span. And my grandson wants to go back for more, which is a good sign.

I have worked with student's from the age of five through adulthood. I enjoy working with any age group. As a teacher, I am always looking for new ideas to aid in a student's musical journey.

I teach to the student's "learning style." I use whatever resources are available to reinforce musical concepts. I am patient, and laid back. I want my students to feel comfortable, and know that they can be themselves when they are working with me. Most of all what a student can expect is a teacher who is interested in them, their progress, and making the our time together as enjoyable as possible. I believe that I help students see the joy music brings to their lives.

I have always felt that one of my greatest strengthens is my ability to interact with children and adults, and I hope that I can continue to share my love of music in the coming years.

Experience

During high school I participated in A Cappella Choir, and joined a global performing group, called "Up With People" that traveled locally and statewide. I was active in high school music productions and I studied privately voice and piano.

Since then, I have continued to sing with community based choral groups throughout the Washington, DC region. I have also assisted as an piano accompanist for a small local church.

Education

I graduated from George Mason University, with a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts. While attending the University, I sang with the university choir and studied classical piano under the tutelage of Jacequeline Schmitt. I was because of her that I developed an interest in piano technique.

During and after college I studied with a private voice instructor from Catholic University, where I learned classical voice.
I am currently working with a Takelessons teacher to maintain my skill.

I am also currently working on being certified as a Music Color teacher through an online course written by Andrew Ingkavet. I also received training and certification as a Music for Young Children, a program designed for early keyboard beginners.

I have continued to broaden my personal education by taking online courses, such as reharmonization of chords. I have also attended workshops, sponsored by the Piedmont music club, on how to incorporate improvisation into my lesson plans.

Lesson Details

I use a variety of methods for teaching piano. I do not restrain my approach to one method, but draw on resources from other methods and approaches.

I include music theory, ear training and piano technique into the lesson. While I am a classically trained pianist, I do not stick to that style of music. I believe that exposing the student to all types or styles of music broadens their education.

I use the computer and any apps that are available to further my students skills on the keyboard.

Within six months I would hope that the student would feel more comfortable at the piano. I would expect him to learn posture at the piano, including hand position. I would expect that his knowledge of the right and left hand notes would become more proficient, and that he would understand what the staff is. I would expect that he understands keyboard geography, distance between notes, the concept of high/low, dynamics, and patterns (both directional and melodic). I would add two-handed playing, at a very basic level. This, of course, would depend upon the student's pace and how much effort is put into the learning of the instrument.

My goal is to create a fun and lively learning environments, that with patience, will result in a life long love of music and the personal benefits it imparts.

Education:
Received music education from George Mason University in classical vocal performance.

I have continued my vocal studies with the incomparable Fabiana Bravo, who studied under the greatest Italian tenor of this past century, Luciano Pavarotti and the legendary Renata Scotto.

From Mrs. Bravo's teachings I have learned the authentic Italian tradition of Bel canto and Verismo in opera. This differs from the American interpretation of the art.

Voice type:
I am a true dramatic soprano. I sit between mezzo and soprano. Having a rare and large instrument has given me invaluable insight and a wider perspective on all other voice types due to it.

Specialization:
I specialize in the intonation of the voice. Students learn specific vocal techniques and how to properly approach the voice in a natural and relaxed manner.

From doing such, students will be able to create appropriate colors for their instrument to then genuinely achieve different styles of music.

Exercises will also encourage range, breath support, placement, dynamics, proper resonance, breath direction, blending of registers and most importantly flexibility in order to sing with freedom.

The technique will never lose sight of the integrity and authenticity of the voice. It in fact enhances and supports this concept. Singers will learn how to hear their true voice in a way that they have yet to experience fully.

We will have very clear and relevant discussions on how the voice works. This is absolutely vital to finding true successful in your studies. It should be noted that one cannot learn without comprehension first.

More importantly from our discussions, the voice will no longer feel like such a mystery.

My approach will help solidify things you continue to struggle with. I have had many, many students agree and come to this conclusion.

This especially includes students who have already studied voice seriously, but are struggling to grasp concepts and or technique.

More times than not, it is the instruction you have received that is inaccurate and ineffective for your voice.

General vocal styles I teach:
Jazz (any variation such as blues), popular adult contemporary (such as ballades, singer song-writer, R&B) musical theatre, classical, opera (bel canto and verismo) traditional, hymnal, sacred, country, and any variation of these styles.

Listed are the styles I coach. Students will find improvement in all styles across the board, even indirectly because it is not simply about singing exclusively in one style versus another. Instead we are learning to use the voice efficiently and effectively and this will translate into any singing genre.

What to expect during lessons:
My teachings are based on first the individual assessment of the student's structure and voice type, much like the true Italian style. Students will develop their technique through clearly directed vocal exercises and put this into practice through their musical rep.

Beyond this objective we will cover other artistic and technical aspects including interpretation, diction, phrasing, timing, and performance.

We will also discuss the mentality of singing. This unique approach that I have developed helps students learn their instrument immensely better than without it.

Piano:
I teach piano in the European route. I specialize in proper reading skills and developing good technique. Students learn to use strategies to sight read music on their own and develop interpretive skills.

I have developed a method of teaching that helps students systematically identify pitches and counting with accuracy.

Music theory is also heavily emphasized during lessons and necessary to support the study of piano.

We will also work on interpretive skills based on historical context and artistic development. I teach students how to think about music critically and thus create dialogue with the music.

Mission:
My goal is to help students become increasingly independent as musicians. I have worked with many children with disabilities as well. Please ask me how.

Who I am:
I love music, I love life, I love my family, I love my dogs, I love my coffee and I love to laugh a lot (I'm very Italian in that way). :D

Why take lessons now:
I always say to people considering voice lessons to just come as they are. Leave your worries at the door:) I understand that a person's voice is a very personally extension of who they are and it can be intimidating to sing in front of a professional.

I have taught hundreds of students and am well versed in seeing many different vocal issues.

I want to assure any potential students that the space I provide is professional, safe (background check three times, most recently 11/15) encouraging, friendly and welcoming.

Age and Advancement:
Please note: Voice begins at age 12 (the very youngest) and piano at age 5.

I teach beginner to expert level advancement in voice and beginner to late intermediate advancement in piano.

How I developed my studio:
I started my teaching career at Lorton music full time as a vocal and piano instructor and have over six years experience.

At Lorton Music I was so highly recommended by my clients to potential students that a wait-list became necessary to work with me.

My success in teaching has allowed me to open up my own private studio from home, which has been such a blessing:)

Who makes up my clientele:
I have a diverse range of students in terms of age, background, experience and interest for their musically aspirations.

Reasons range from personal to professional gain. Some of my students study voice to improve individually and others study on a more professional level such as getting into a music program for voice or preparing for auditions.

I will note that I am seeking students, especially voice students who view taking lessons on a consist basis as both valuable and necessary. To treat vocal lessons otherwise, will not allow for the full benefits to occur.

Christine is undoubtedly an accomplished expert in both piano and voice (she taught my 7 year old daughter both) and has an unique ability to translate this expertise into "laymans" terms for even the youngest student. I watched my daughter grown during our time with Christine, in not only her musical abilities but also as a young lady -- taking responsibility to practice at home, wanting to do her best, and reading her lessons to make sure she was on track. Christine is pleasant and engaging, and yet has a gentle firmness when my daughter needed that extra nudge along the way. I could not give her a higher review, for any student, at any age ... with Christine as your teacher you will learn, grown and achieve your goals. (I say "was." as we moved across the country, otherwise we would have been with Christine until my daughter went to college ... my daughter, and I, think the world of her!)
