About Carrie
*****I don't have a current background check through take lessons but have an active ongoing background check through another employer ******

I've been teaching and performing professionally for over 15 years. I have my BA in music and business. I have had some amazing experiences along the way. I've worked with world renowned vocal coaches, sang at Carnegie Hall, and played on various cds to raise money/awareness for charity projects. I'm grateful for all of this, but I love working with students on their music most of all. It delights me to see a student have an "aha" moment where they realize that they have what it takes to be great. I'd love to work with you, but if I don't I hope you reach your goals and have fun doing it ! ~ Carrie Jo ~

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a laid back teacher but you will definitely learn
a lot. I just believe if it starts to not be fun, what's the point? Music isn't just about perfect theory and note placement it's about enjoyment. That's why I tailor make every lesson specifically based on my student's goals. I have students that like a more traditional approach so I use standard method books with them. I also have students that want to learn how to play by ear so we use a less traditional method and I teach them chord structures and how to move around easily on their instrument. My favorite thing to teach is vocal lessons but I love teaching piano and guitar also.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught on an upright piano or acoustic/electric guitar. Student should bring own guitar. No pets. Waiting room out front for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They need their own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
I've performed at Carnegie Hall and I've had the opportunity to work with world renowned vocal coaches. I offer that as well as techniques that I've developed to help you reach your goals quickly and with great skill !

My students also perform regularly throughout the community and are successful in their musical endeavors at all ages. I teach a wide range of genres and styles from classical music, blues, jazz and rock to heavy metal with an emphasis on becoming A-Level lead guitar soloists and song writers. I have a B.S. in Music Education. I have worked with several disabled students patiently guiding them, finding creative ways to make music accessible to them. I believe it is not about me or the parent, but the student. I work with children of all ages believing that we can find a way that works so that in a few months you see results. Anyone can learn to sing or play but not everyone is going to enjoy it without the right approach and teacher. I don't want to hear a student say that the teacher didn't listen to me, they wouldn't entertain my ideas.
In my studio I have a studio piano and a keyboard. We have monitors and microphones and the ability to record. I encourage the composer to the pop music player, from the classical artist to the Broadway singer.
Currently, I have several students that compose their own music, helpi

I never want the student to lose their creative, artistic ability. They should feel welcome at all times to add input to the lesson. Solid knowledge from 18 years of playing guitar and singing, I Graduated From Berklee College Of music as one of the first African Scholars.

About Albino
Albino was born in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, a country in southern Africa known for its rich musical and cultural heritage. Fueled by the resourcefulness and determination that have always characterized Mozambicans, he built his first guitar at 16 from a 5-liter can of oil, scrap wood, and strings made out of electrical cords.

Drawn to the sounds of neighborhood street musicians in Maputo, Albino began to play in a number of local bands. As with his home-made guitar, Albino wanted to combine styles and incorporate diverse elements in his music. For his talents to grow, he knew he needed experience new places, cultures, and sounds.

While studying music education and Performance at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique, he heard about the Berklee School of Music in Boston, USA, where he could expand his musical horizons
. Soon after, he was one of the first students to receive a full scholarship to Berklee through the African Scholars program. In 2009, he settled in Boston, Massachusetts.

At Berklee, he was exposed to a variety of influences, but wanted to go deeper into the roots of jazz and expand his knowledge of music. He auditioned and was selected to participate in the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, which is directed by Danilo Perez and the residency teachers, including Joe Lovano John Patitucci, and Terri Lyne Carrington. The Institute emphasizes an artist's original vision in jazz, and has helped Albino find his own unique voice in the art form.

Albino still felt the absence of his own Mozambican traditions in his music. With the help of his mentors, Richard Bona and Lionel Loueke, two of the most prominent African musicians in the United States of America today, he began to bridge that gap.

Today, Albino's music succeeds in combining many disparate parts into an organic whole. It incorporates his musical experiences from Mozambique, the U.S., and many other places around the world, combining rhythmic patterns and musical concepts to create a unique Moz-Jazz sound. He will always continue to combine and capture the energies of different musical traditions to create a unified and original musical style.

Albino's original composition “Mozambique Dance” was recorded by Jazz Revelation Records, a student-run record label at the Berklee College of Music, for the 8th annual album released in 2011. He also recorded “Awusiwana,” his own composition, for the Berklee 2012 summer album. His debut album, also called Mozambique Dance, is to be released in Spring 2013.

Albino is an active musician, and has performed in several countries including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Italy, the U.S., and Mexico. He has also produced and recorded various projects in Mozambique and in the United States. In 2012, he will graduate from Berklee College with a degree in Music Production & Engineering and Performance, and a minor in Acoustics and Electronics.

Albino is an amazing teacher and musician. He has the ability to inspire you musically and make you feel very comfortable while doing it. He has taught me many new approaches, tips, and tricks to music theory. He has helped me to be able to really understand why things are the way they are, and not just figure things out on paper like an equation. Definitely the best tutor I've ever had! I'd highly recommend him.

Patient, Supportive, and Encouraging.

It was what I was looking for when looking for a coach. Although, I wasn't trying to be the next American Idol, I did want to not butcher anymore of the songs I love to sing. I had taken singing lessons in the past and was hesitant with this experience, the issue was my instructors wanted me to learn what they wanted to teach and honestly didn't make for the best experience.

Albino made this experience different, our first few lessons were focused on learning some basics skills and drills. We explored what songs might be suitable to start off with given my range and where I was and started to practice and practice and practice, until i felt comfortable. The more comfortable I became and the better I became with my drills, the more options we explored, the more of the songs I wanted to really sing started to come into conversation and I felt as though I was and continue to make progress.

Albino has never made this about himself. He has never pushed his own style on me and I can really appreciate that. He genuinely enjoys helping you achieve something you never thought you could or were nervous of doing. He pushes you just enough that you feel challenged and want to continue doing it.

I've come so far in such a short period of time and I have him to thank. This is the man you want to be coached by if you're looking to be pushed in the right direction without feeling like there is only one way to get to where you want to be.

Over 6 years of teaching experience, and a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance! I have taught all ages and experience levels and specialize in teaching young children how to sing in a vocally healthy way. I customize lesson plans to achieve your goals and have a 5-step training system which includes work on breath support, ear-training, healthy vocal technique, and repertoire of either your choice or my recommendation.

I am classically trained and have performed under the baton of world renowned conductor Lorin Maazel, and have attended the prestigious Aspen Opera Theatre as a Fellowship Opera Coach. However, this does not mean I only teach opera! In fact, most of my students are too young for opera or are more interested in musical theatre. I bring my knowledge of vocal health and healthy ways of singing, such as mixed voice, placement, and release of bad tension in addition to good breath support to ALL genres. No matter what genre you like to sing, healthy singing will ...

About Sophia
I am a professional opera coach and have subbed as a coach at the Kansas City Lyric Opera House. I have my Master's in Vocal Performance from the Conservatory at UMKC, and my Bachelor's of Music from Luther College. I have performed under the baton of Maestro Lorin Maazel and sung on stage with The Rolling Stones and Barry Manilow in addition to serving on faculty at summer opera programs after my fellowship as an opera coach at Aspen Opera Theatre.

Voice students can expect to improve their tone from week to week by learning healthy vocal technique. I have taught all ages and skill levels, and specialize in teaching younger children to sing in a vocally healthy way. Students learn about releasing tension, good breath support, placement, head/chest voice and mix, as well as solfege and ear training.

I have also been playing pi
ano for over 20 years and did competitive piano as a child, and won statewide and midwest regional competitions. Because of my piano background, I can record helpful tracks for each student, such as warm up tracks, as well as practice tracks.

My passion is teaching kids to sing in a vocally healthy way by building on basic foundational techniques such as good posture, good breath support, ear training and release of tension. As a child, I was told often that singers were born, not taught, and I am here to tell you that I learned how to sing well during my college and grad school years, and was not a "born" singer! I learned so much about healthy singing in school that I wish I had known when I was younger, so my personal goal is to install good vocally healthy habits in all of my students.

Learn how to improve your singing from one of Los Angeles' top professional singers. My students benefit from my real life experience as a singer in the film and tv industry. (check out imdb to see some of my credits) I teach a healthy, solid, and free technique that translates to all styles of music. We will work together to give you the deepest knowledge of your voice and strengthen/extend your instrument, build repertoire that helps you grow as an artist, develop an effective practice routine, and have lots of laughs along the way!

About Karen
Karen Whipple has been teaching voice for over 20 years and performing professionally for over 25. She enjoys helping her students find their own individual voice through the application of a solid vocal foundation. She earned her bachelors of music with a vocal performance concentration from Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, FL. Karen works with her students (of all ages and levels) on strengthening their natural “instrument” and stretching its range - both musically and emotionally. Her experience as an LA actor also has helped her work with her students on sympathetically connecting with their songs as well. She likes to prepare her students for anything they might encounter as a working singer: developing versatility in musical style; taking away the fear of sight-reading; andmost important, maintaining a healthy voi
ce. One of the most valuable traits Karen brings to her lessons is her many years of experience as a professional singer in Los Angeles. She sings in a variety of different arenas, which helps her to stay versatile and also keeps her informed of current musical trends. She sang with the Los Angeles Master Chorale for over 10 years, which performed regularly at Disney Hall. She sings classical as well as jazz and pop, having performed with LA’s vocal jazz group, Sixth Wave as well as joining Imogen Heap at the Greek Theater. She has also sung with the famed a cappella vocal group, Voices of Liberty, both at Epcot in Orlando, FL, and Disneyland in Southern CA. Performing both solo and ensemble work has strengthened her passion for making music both individually and as part of a whole, which she feels is a great skill to possess in seeking success in the music business. Karen has worked extensively as a session singer; you can hear her on such films as Star Trek and Despicable Me 3, such TV shows as Medium and Family Guy. You also may have heard her on a few national spots, namely, Microsoft, Suave, and Subway.

As a result of all she has learned through her own education and personal vocal development, as well as her experience as a professional singer, lessons with Karenoffer a healthy, practical, and well-rounded technique. Healthy in that it involves a very natural placement of the voice. Practical in that it allows you to take risks and try different styles. Well-rounded in that it prepares you for a variety of musical opportunities.
