Music theory is the basic foundation for every good composer and songwriter. There's a lot to learn and a lot that can be used in your own music. Even if you only want to play guitar and not write music, music theory can help you be a better improvisor, increase your harmonic knowledge, and play better in group settings.

About Jeremie

I'm a self taught guitarist who has been playing for 20 years. I have played professionally in numerous bands and ensembles ranging from jazz to folk to rock, and I've been writing music for the same length of time. I currently perform with one of my students from TakeLessons named Mackenzie O'Brien

Caleb is an amazing teacher who has the experience to foresee and address potential issues before they arise—all while conveying his love of music! Our teenage son began trumpet lessons during a year of online learning so that he would not fall behind his classmates. Upon his return to the traditional classroom, he earned first chair in the school band!
Emily
Our 10-year-old daughter has been taking piano and music theory lessons from Caleb for over 3 years, and she has gone from absolute beginner to composing her own music! Caleb has an amazing ability to foster engagement through the right balance of structure and encouragement!

Caleb is an excellent musician and teacher. We are very impressed by the progress our son has made since he began taking guitar lessons over a year ago. Caleb has great attention to detail and is really unlocking our son’s potential. Our son is not only learning how to play, but is getting a great dose of music theory that will only make him a better musician. Caleb makes learning to play the guitar fun and challenges our son to reach a new level each session. Our son looks forward to every lesson.

Theory shouldn't be boring and pointless. I love teaching theory in a way that not only makes sense, but is immediately applicable to music and actually helps you be a better musician.

I teach theory in a couple different ways: the cheapest way for you is a 15-minute lesson where we go over some specific topics, and then I give you a bunch of stuff like podcasts, YouTube videos, and handouts to digest and come back with next week as I explain whatever is confusing to you.
The other way is to have a full session where we apply theory to your instrument of choice--you still might get homework, but most of the work will be done in lesson.

And of course, all of my instrumental lessons will have theory included in them as well.

Theory is supposed to be a tool, not a torture device!

Why You Should Learn (At Least a Little) Music Theory
