I have a firm background on music theory, so I am able to explain everything that I am teaching.

About Paul
I have played the guitar for twenty years and have studied a wide variety of music including jazz, classical, folk, blues and rock. I’m skilled in acoustic, electric and classical styles of the guitar. I have an open mind about music and can appreciate any style or type. I have a firm background on music theory, so I am able to explain what I am teaching. I excelled in all my classes in college, music and Gen Eds, with a GPA over 3.75. I also have experience in teaching guitar or bass to students ranging from the ages of six to sixty six. I enjoy taking what I have learned and passing it on to someone else to experience. I believe this is one way you can leave your mark in music. I believe the experience I have playing in bands, and learning songs with my ability of having relative pitch will make my students improve quicker. I am a
lso a very skilled sight reader and can recognize key signatures and musical notation. I’ve also been playing electric bass guitar for 13 years now and have the same skill set as my guitar playing. In fact I am hired to perform more often as a bassist than a guitarist.
I went to Columbia College between 2000-2003 and I completed a Bachelor Arts in Music, Concentration: Instrument Performance.
I also went to Harper College between 1997-2000 and I completed an Associates in Fine Arts of Music.

Music is a universal language with many complex parts. Knowing how to read music is an important skill as well as knowing chords and how music is put together properly. If you want to learn to read basic music, write music or you are already a pro, it is important to have ear training and musical knowledge to really get your message across.

About Laurelanne
I graduated from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA with a BA in Music Education, voice principal. During my years in public schools I taught a variety of age ranges and subjects including kindergarten general music, beginning band, high school chorus, and remedial middle school English and language arts. I have professional Yoga training and enjoy incorporating aspects of that when tutoring adult, middle school, high school, and elementary students. I also uses Yoga, brain respiration and other healing techniques in my lessons as needed.

I was a member of The William Baker Festival Singers and Summer Singers since 2003 before becoming Media Relation Coordinator in 2006 and Assistant to the Music Director in 2008 and left the group in July of 2009 to pursue other musical ventures.

Every student has a potential
for greatness no matter what their strengths and weaknesses are. No matter your age or ability level I will help you set your goals and reach them. All students should want to learn. I expect my students to be prepared and have an open mind. Learning to sing is a process. I focus on building technique and a strong musical foundation and customize my lessons for every student and individual needs. I use breathing techniques and exercises that are challenging and work toward quick and accurate results. I implement a variety of exercises to improve pitch, intonation, placement, strength, and endurance. My main goal in teaching is to encourage each student to get to know their vocal strengths and weaknesses while using all their skills to their advantage producing their best sound consistently.

music theory is covered in the most subtle ways and more in depth when needed. How to build a chord, invert it and play, understanding major and minor keys

About Charis
I have a B.S. in Music Education. I have worked with several disabled students patiently guiding them, finding creative ways to make music accessible to them. I believe it is not about me or the parent, but the student. I work with children of all ages believing that we can find a way that works so that in a few months you see results. Anyone can learn to sing or play but not everyone is going to enjoy it without the right approach and teacher. I don't want to hear a student say that the teacher didn't listen to me, they wouldn't entertain my ideas.
In my studio I have two piano's and a keyboard. We have monitors and microphones and the ability to record. I encourage the composer to the pop music player, from the classical artist to the Broadway singer.
Currently, I have several students that compose their own music, helping
one of those students to become a copyrighted artist.

I have been teaching Theory as part of the lessons for over 23 years.
Theory is the analysis of what is behind the music.
I always include Theory in the lessons to help the students understand their music.

About Teresa
I am a graduate of Northern IL University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. I have 22 years of teaching experience where I have traveled to the homes. Students enjoy my passion that I have with the instrument.

I started teaching in 1991 and have been teaching several students since then. Attending teacher workshops keep me at a current updated level and I want to help the students learn to the best of their potential.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very thorough in my teaching, which includes lesson, theory, technique, and performance
methods. I use a very easy, flexible approach when it comes to the kids and their personalities. I expect a lot out of my students, yet still want them to learn and have fun.
After three months with me, they will have learned how my teaching style is and will be able to play several
children's songs.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I don't provide any equipment when I travel except their books for the first lesson. I would expect the student to have a well tuned piano or a basic keyboard. The student also needs a notebook so I can write their homework down for them as well as myself to keep track of where the student is in their progress.[

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching Alfred, Bastien, and Faber and Faber. I teach General Music, Classical, Jazz, and Popular. I teach mainly through the method books, and then use other supplementary materials as well..

I studied three semesters of music theory at Eastern Illinois University. I have been interacting with basic music theory since the third grade (throughout my primary school choral career). I can help answer questions and teach you basic foundational music theory. I try to teach theory in a logical and practical way that makes it easy to understand and integrate.

About Jack
Hello students and parents, music has been a big part of my life since before I could walk. Starting in third grade, and continuing through college, I have had 15 years of experience with singing. I was always eager to make music and to grow as a musician, which is why I decided to study music education at Eastern Illinois University. Due to the limited number of teaching jobs available I decided to change programs and study counseling. However I made it a priority to find ways to keep music as a big part of my life.

Performing has been a big part of my life for years. Starting in Elementary school I have been in several musicals and plays. I know what it is like to sing in front of large crowds both as a group and as a soloist. One of my favorite groups was an acapella/vocal jazz group during my high school years. My hope is to pass o
n both my passion for performance and the practical skills needed by every performer.

I have been teaching private guitar and singing lessons for the past 9 years. I have had approximately 10 students during that time, ranging in age from 11 to 60 years old. I have a fun and laid back approach to teaching. Music is meant to be enjoyed and I want my students to have fun as they learn and grow as musicians. While I have some basic skills for all my students to learn, the primary focus of lessons is for students to set and attain their own goals.

I know what it is like to be a student. I took private voice lessons for 7 years, including 3 years of classical training at Eastern Illinois University. I took four years of private guitar lessons, and one year of electrical bass lessons. As a teacher I use my experience as a student to enhance the learning environment for my students.

One of my favorite things is writing and recording my own songs. I will offer the opportunity for any of my students to develop songwriting skills and even record their creations.

There is no greater joy than that of creating music. Come create music with me and you'll be a better musician for it. I look forward to meeting you and helping you reach your goals.

*In Song*
-Jack G.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am highly adaptive as an instructor. I will allow my students to bring their own materials or I will create custom materials designed to develop their skills and help them reach their goals. A lot of my custom exercises are designed to build the flexibility, strength, and agility of my students as musicians.

After several months of lessons I aim for my students to master the basic skills, and to be focused on personal goals in their development as a musician. I use audio recording to mark and measure student progress so you can hear how you have improved and find new ways to get better.

Lessons can be as laid back or intense as you want. Practice is key to improvement. The more you practice the more you improve. I realize that life can be busy, so if you can't get the practice in I will still work with you and help you get as much as possible out of our lesson time. However, I will always encourage my students to practice regularly.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Keyboard, Acoustic Guitars, Electric Bass, Electric Guitar, Recording software.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Keyboard, Guitars, Bass, and Mandolin.

*** Specialties ***
For singing and guitar I design a lot of my own materials. I have strength and coordination exercises for the guitar, and I have vocal exercises designed to increase vocal strength and confidence.

I messed up the time for the lesson and we showed up two hours early - Jack was available and took us when we arrived! He took the time to ask questions about history, experience and interests and tailored the first lesson to those answers. He is engaging and very encouraging. He provides support material and precise instruction on items to practice between lessons. My daughter (Marissa) left the lesson excited to continue. Her comment was "Best birthday present ever! I can't wait to go back!" We will definitely continue working with Jack!

Music theory is the basic foundation for every good composer and songwriter. There's a lot to learn and a lot that can be used in your own music. Even if you only want to play guitar and not write music, music theory can help you be a better improvisor, increase your harmonic knowledge, and play better in group settings.

About Jeremie
I'm a self taught guitarist who has been playing for nearly 20 years. I have played professionally in numerous bands and ensembles ranging from jazz to folk to rock, and I've been writing music for the same length of time. I currently perform with one of my students from TakeLessons named Mackenzie O'Brien.

I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in May 2014 with a BA in Music Composition. I studied under composers: Drew Baker, Kenn Kumpf, Ilya Levinson, and Marcos Balter. I've performed and worked with members from the groups, Del Niente and Chicago's Composer's Collective.

I build my lesson plans around each of my students based on their interests. I'll try to incorporate music they enjoy into their music regime. I keep lessons pretty relaxed, but will challenge a student who is looking for something m
ore difficult. I go at the pace you learn best at!

Bass guitar, ukulele, song-writing, counterpoint, orchestrating, arranging, music theory, and composing are subjects I'm well versed in and love to teach to other people.

I'm experienced with all kinds of music software, such as: Pro Tools, Logic, Garage Band, Cubase, FL Studio, Finale, Sibelius. If you want to learn how to write, record, mix, and master your own music, there's never been a better time to learn.

Although I was forced to select a subject of Acoustic Guitar on the review form, my children and I have also taken lessons with Mel Parker on every subject in the pick list plus a few more. Theory, composition, recording. Improvisation techniques, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, banjo, violin, bass, mandolin, ear training, techniques applied to all music genre's, group and solo performance techniques, ETC! The main point here is that as an accomplished and talented musician, Mel Parker is fluent in the music industry and very skilled at teaching all skill levels, from beginner to pro. He can teach very rigid focused lessons or he can shift and adjust the lesson instantly to meet the needs of the student. My children have been able to explore and experiment different instruments, genre's and other areas of the music industry as their interests grew and changed over the years. They have had many changes in their interests but the one constant has been the TEACHER! It is wonderful to be able to have 1 teacher adjust his education for the ever changing and growing needs of my family. Both of my children are now very accomplished award winning performers and we all agree that Mel Parker has been/is the primary influencer in their accomplishments.

I've been teaching Guitar Full-Time for 5 years and my students have gone from absolute beginner to live performances at our huge annual events. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able identify a C Scale, draw the Circle of Fifths, write down what chords belong to the C Major Scale, and learn to experiment with the mentioned techniques on the guitar. We will then get into Major, Minor, Diminished, Augmented triads and more advanced Chords/Scales. I specialize in Teaching beginners to intermediate players, Rock, Blues, Lead Guitar, Music Theory, and Christian worship/contemporary. I typically use the Beginning Guitarist's Books by Hess/Kalkbrenner, and have the following tools available for your lessons: Music Stands, foot pedals, Roland Cube amps, comfortable Heated/Ac studio, PA system, mixer, Macbook Pro, Comcast Business Level High Speed Internet, Microphones, Pedal Board, Guitar Stands, Lesson Materials, and more. I love working with students of all ages, experience levels, ...

About Jon
My life long passions have been for guitar, music, and business. I received my very first guitar at the age of 12 years old and have been studying, playing, and improvising ever since with over 28 years of experience. I have had the honor to train under some of the finest Guitarists in the Chicagoland area: Dave Uhrich, Eric Mantel, Toshi Iseda, and Tom Hess.

I have performed as lead guitarist on worship teams for over 15 years, currently at Kenosha Bible Church. As the lead guitarist of Aural Groove, I recorded under industry pro Michael Charles of Moonlight Studios. As lead singer and guitarist of Manna (an acoustic duo) I recorded under Rex Carroll of Whitecross.

I teach and train in a method I have coined "8 Cycle Guitar". This approach alternates areas of focus each week; like a fitness program. By routinely rotating through t
he 8 cycles of guitar training, the student gains the skill needed to master the instrument quickly and effectively.

My Promise to you, simply put, "You Will Learn to Play the Guitar, period." I will be your own personal Guitar Coach. Look through the pics in my profile. 90% or more of those students started out as absolute beginners. I will help to keep things moving along, keep you motivated, keep you inspired, and keep the lessons fun.

What do I want in return: committed students, students who show up to their lessons, students who will practice a half hour per day or more, 5 to 7 days per week. Students who do not use the words "I can't," but instead use the words "How can I? Please show me."

I am here to teach, train, coach, and mentor you to the best of my ability. If you do the things I request you to do in and outside of your lessons...I personally guarantee you will learn to play the guitar and impress all your friends and family.

Let's start this journey together. You won't regret your decision.
