I can help beginning students on percussion learn the basics.
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.
Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.
Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.
*** Lesson Details *** My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.
I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.
For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.
My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.
Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

Fabulous! What a great teacher! And SO KNOWLEDGEABLE about all kinds of music! THANKS! looking forward to all my lessons!

In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!
o Equipment *** I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.
*** Specialties *** Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm. Drums & Percussion: All genres Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

After a brief intro, Mike explained where're going with his lessons. I was having some problems getting my fingers near certain fret areas he wanted me to work on, so he very kindly placed some colors tape where I'm to put my fingers. That helped a lot. Been practicing an hour per day, & I'm getting a bit better daily. I've got a long way to go, but with Mike's help I'll get there. ELLIOT

I want to make sure my students have a good time learning percussion but I also want to make sure they learn a lot..! I always make sure to ask my students what they want to learn and what their favorite music is... after that, I figure out what type of lessons to plan out.
Thanks so much for your interest in starting music lessons with me. I’m so excited to share my passion for music with you! As Lao Tzu said: “Music in the soul can be heard by the universe."
Lesson details: My main goal as a teacher is to help my students reach their goals. If my student wants to learn how to play rock, hip-hop, and jazz drums I believe that it's my job to teach them how to play those styles..! If my student wants to get accepted into a music school I will make sure that they are prepared for an audition whether it be for orchestral percussion, jazz drums, rock drums, etc.

Hi! I'm Scott. I perform with a one-man band setup I created which utilizes a modified guitar and home-made foot pedals to control a drum set, while I sing on top of it all. I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer. I've written, performed and recorded my own album which made it to the 2nd round of the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and was a voting member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Grammy Committee and NARAS (National Association or the Recording Arts and Sciences.) I started piano lessons from age 5 and just kept picking up more instruments and gear as I got older and never stopped learning or enjoying it!

Dave studied Afro-Cuban Percussion, Percussion and Drums at the University of Northern Colorado, the nation's 3rd largest Jazz school. He brings 17+ years of education and teaching experience to the table.
I own a local music/art/production institution which hosts lessons for many instruments and artistic pursuits. Personally, I've been teaching for over 17 years, and I teach beginner to advanced students in instruments like guitar, bass, piano/keys, voice, and drums, and depending on your needs, our studio offers a variety of professional teachers that teach all woodwind, brass, and stringed instruments.
I also am an online teacher for a the world's biggest web platform for guitar instruction, and teach lessons alongside those in Berklee alumni, Musician's Institute, as well with many very famous artists that are now in the music business.
Though I've had the fortune to work with some of the best in studios, as a songwriter, and player, and in education, both professional and informal, I love to teach entry level players up through
the intermediate levels the most. I enjoy watching people discover things for the first time, and in my teaching I really do my best to craft my lessons to the needs of the students. My primary aim in teaching is that I would cultivate in my students a love for music and learning. With these two things in place, a student can go on to be and learn anything.
Join me, we'll have a great time, and we'll get you to your goals while we're enjoying the journey of music together!!
Dave is a great professional teacher that knows to assess his students, knowledgeable in piano and guitar!

Dave is the absolute “best” teacher I have ever had! I’m an older (69) student and his techniques amaze me. I’m learning things I have never been exposed to and so wish I had had a teacher like Dave when I was 10...maybe I would be able to play! Thanks Dave!

He was great with our son. First lesson a d he loved it
I’ve been playing and performing on drum set and percussion for over 10 years. I’ve been in a touring group named Universal Sigh based out of Athens, GA. I try to give my students a blend of opened minded guidance along with specific techniques and skills that will help them further their musical evolution.
I am a professional touring musician/teacher and have played all genres from rock n roll to hip hop to electronic to country and bluegrass to jazz. I’m opened to teaching any genre. I’ve been in a touring band named Universal Sigh for the past 6 years, touring all over the country. I want to make learning fun and give my students skills that will further their musical evolution!
I have been playing drums for a long period of time. I have studied music since I was in my adolescence years. I went to music school from Elementary through high school. Through my years of experience, I have been taught by ear and also through reading music through Conservatory of Music school. I also like to play different styles of music such as Gospel, Rock, Fusion, Jazz, Latin, etc. I have so much to bring to the table. I've been playing Gospel/contemporary from my childhood to my Adult years and I believe that helped me to become a better musician and be a all around drummer
"I have been taking music lessons of various types in and outside of school since elementary school and have never had a teacher who introduces concepts qu
ite like Mr.Fuhrman. Things that I have struggled with ever since they were introduced; especially regarding rhythm/counting have become incredibly simple- as they should be! My progress regarding percussion (which I've been working with for over 4 years) has increased exponentially since working with him. Not only will he highly recommend essential practice, but he's willing to give you various strategies to manage time and to be able to fit the practice in. I've had music teachers (all of whom were very competent musicians) telling me to practice since the second grade, but no one's ever set aside some lesson time to discuss how to fit it in. I am a beginning music teacher myself and have already implemented some of the concepts he has taught with my own students. He's not only an incredibly skillful musician, but he is an amazing teacher as well. You won't regret doing lessons with him."
"Kevin is a wonderful instructor and is great with kids/teens. He makes learning music easier and fun. We absolutely recommend him to everyone."
"Murray is patient, encouraging, and obviously very knowledgeable about his subject area. He is also flexible and creative in unpredictable technology rela
ted situations. Looking forward to more lessons. I believe I can learn a lot."
"Mr. Pham is a wonderful teacher! He has worked with three of my children. He started with my oldest in middle school and worked with her till she gradua
ted from high school. The second child worked with Mr. Pham until he decided he preferred the trumpet. My third child started with piano and has moved to percussion. I would highly recommend Mr. Pham to anyone who would like to enroll in lessons."
"Online Conga Drum Instruction
From Online pupil from England George D.
Johnny is an awesome teacher. Instructive. Quick to find what you need to foc
us on. Patient. Insightful. Funny. Just what you need if your time is precious, but you can get in front of webcam for a few hours a week. He's helped me get those tones right and given me the confidence to grow. Really, really importantly he's always there for questions and support outside of the lessons."
"My 9-year-old son, Luke, who is on the spectrum (PDD-NOS) studied with David for the better part of a year and the experience was terrific. In addition t
o being extremely communicative and reliable, David was kind and patient. David kept Luke focused and entertained while also inviting him to think about rhythm in ways that made sense to Luke's brain. We happily traveled from Inwood to "Downtown Brooklyn" for lessons because the level of instruction was that good and, I think, Luke's progress demonstrates that. Luke was bitten by the hockey bug, so we are taking a break from percussion right now, but I wouldn't hesitate to return to David's studio should time allow in the future."
"He's a good instructor, he teaches easy and simple"
"Absolutely fantastic teacher! I've had some lessons with Tareq. He is a great person and musician, he listens carefully and explains everything thoroughly
. He gave me great exercises that helped me improve my playing and sense of time and rhythm. It is a great experience to have lessons with him, and I think his attitude is what makes the difference. I highly recommend taking lessons with Tareq"
