With over 10 years of teaching experience, and sharing the stage with the likes of Bob Mintzer and Gilbert Castellanos, trumpet playing is my biggest passion. Our lessons will be focused, yet relaxed; challenging but always fun and full of exciting challenges. My playing and teaching experiences have helped me understand what it takes to reach that "next level" of trumpet playing, whether it involves range, technique, or musical performance. I hope we can make some great music together soon!

Kay is very knowledgeable, kind and accommodating. She is very encouraging and never makes me feel dumb when I hit a sour note. (As a beginning beginner, that happens a lot!) I am amazed at how much I have learned in such a short time!

I have been teaching trumpet for 22 years. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I presently teach music at 3 schools (1 college) and only have a few lessons slots available. I look forward to working with you.

I have been a professional musician for almost 20 years, four of which I spent playing trumpet, guitar, bass, and singing in the US Marine Corp Band. I believe every student is different, and by that I mean every student’s brain has a different way of processing a new skill. When students learn differently, that means a teacher needs to have different approaches for teaching a wide range of musical and technical skills. Ultimately, we want to be able to have a multitude of routes to the same destination. The same applies to physical setup. With every student, comes a new pair of lips, teeth, tongue etc. This should not however change the desired outcome. As long as the proper setup can be achieved (which it almost always can) then every student has the potential to be great. With every student (even beginners) teaching musicality should always be the priority. In the beginning when the fundamentals aren’t fully developed, this can be difficult. I require students of all ages to listen to music, whether it is influential music on their instrument, or music that demonstrates superior musicality, regardless of what instrument it is ...

About Jacob

My name is Jake! I am from the Cleveland, Ohio area. I have a Bachelors degree from The University of Akron in Trumpet Performance and a Masters degree from Louisiana State University, also in Trumpet Performance. I have been teaching private trumpet lessons for about 7 years. In this time, I have worked with hundreds of students ranging in age and skill level, from beginners at the age of 10 years old to advanced college students.
Every student is different and learns differently. As an experienced teacher, I believe we need to have a multitude of routes to the same destination. I also believe in the potential for greatness in every student. It takes hard work, but I am happy to guide your child to reach their full potential. The majority of my teaching is centered on creating a beautiful sound and making music.

My daughter's first year in Marching Band was a success. She played trumpet for 4 years and switched to mellophone for Marching Band season. Lessons with Jake for both instruments helped her grow into a much more confident player. Jake is a great inspiration and teacher.

"I have known, performed with, and taught with Vincent for over thirty years. I am a professional trombonist and the Performing Arts Chair at Saddle River
Day School. I ran an Arts-In-Education band that performed big band jazz at schools in the NYC area for over twelve years, and Vincent was a band member. Vincent is one of the world's greatest trumpet players and jazz improvisers, and he is an excellent communicator. I have watched Vincent teach countless times, and he loves working with young people and passing along his craft and experience. He has a very warm personality and a great sense of humor. I perform regularly with Vincent in a variety of world-class ensembles, and just standing next to him on the band-stand is like taking a lesson!"

"Mr James is so friendly; he put us at ease instantly because my son was quite nervous. I appreciate the instant feedback (which is nearly impossible in hi

I also appreciate his tips on listening to other trumpet players online so Gabe can get an idea in his head to strive for. Mr James also has a nice sense of humor, which is great because we are goofy people! ^.^ Even though my son is just in his first year of trumpet, we can see the places he'll go and the skills he has to look forward to.
