I have been studding strings from age 8, starting on violin. I switched over to cello when I turned 13 and received scholarships to potentially attend the University of Pacific in Stockton, CA. I instead studied cello at the University of California, Santa Barbara where I had the opportunity to perform in the university's symphonic orchestra and teach private lessons to college students as well. I have experience teaching from the Suzuki method, but consider myself to be a flexible educator and teach many methods according to the needs of the student.

What an amazing teacher! My 10-yr daughter has been taking lessons with Amy for over a year. Amy is consistently positive and encouraging. She is always prompt and well-prepared, and she provides helpful resources. We were a little hesitant about doing online lessons, but Amy is attentive to posture, bow hold, tone, and volume. It's hard to imagine that an in-person lesson could be any better. I've been very pleased with Amy as a teacher, the online lesson format, and our daughter's progress. My daughter's growing love for cello is evidence that Amy is a talented musician and instructor.

We adore, Miss Amy! She is incredibly competent and even more incredibly loving! She teaches with nothing but positive energy. It's easier to find errors and note them. I can't even attempt to work at finding all the good in some of our lesson time that Amy can find! She finds those tiny "correct" and "right" things and that leaves our two sons energized and feeling confident about what they are able to accomplish - even when the difficulty of the song has discouraged them. Amy always finds a way of putting in a section that makes them shine.

This is our fourth year with online lessons from Miss Amy. I mention this all the time but we have had our sons complimented and one mentor in our local symphony even asked told our son that his playing has improved with his online lessons.

We can never ask for a better teacher. Miss Amy is hands down one of our family's most favorite people in the entire world.

Thank you, Miss Amy for being so positive, for being incredibly forgiving, loving, interested and letting our boys learn at their pace. You have been instrumental in their ability to feel proud of the work they are able to do in music.

If you are worried that you may not find a good fit for online lessons please give Miss Amy a try! She is able to get so much learning across the distance that it makes us feel she is sitting in the room next to us!

I went in hoping to relearn the basics of cello. I have a lot of experience, but my fundamentals, primarily, how I held my bow and cello, were extremely poor. Cello tutors that I've had in the past have struggled with the awkward place that would put my cello skills if you thought of progressing skill as being in a linear fashion, but she's been great. She's did a really good job at tailoring her lessons to my specific skillset and abilities. Would recommend.

I have over 6 years of experience teaching private lessons in addition to teaching seminars on songwriting and music business at Infinity Visual and Performing Arts and SUNY JCC.

I teach both online and in-person lessons at my studio in Nashville and offer 30 and 60 minute lessons.

I have played over 1,000 shows, both solo and as an auxiliary musician for other touring acts. I performed on over 30 albums and have composed for radio, television, and internet video series, including sharing the stage with members of the 10,000 Maniacs. I've been featured in The New York Times, on the CBS Evening News, and on NPR.

While each student is different, I do generally start everyone on either Suzuki or the Essential Elements books.

As one of my old teachers said, “I'm not teaching you how to play cello, I'm teaching you how to teach yourself how to play cello.” This is something I strive for. Students will not only learn technical skills( how to play their instrument, read ...

"I originally learned how to play the cello on my own in my school's orchestra. When I went to college and decided to bring my cello with me, I knew it was time to take proper lessons like everyone else. Brenda was able to help me iron out all of the bad habits I had developed over seven years of playing cello with no formal corrections. She clearly cared about me and my interests as a student. I can confidently say Brenda equipped me with the tools, techniques, and attitude I needed to play the cello for the rest of my life."

"I've had something like 6 or 8 lessons with Chris so far and he's awesome. If you're not sure what to work on he'll come up with a great "standard" curriculum for you, but if you have particular interests or tastes he tailors your lessons accordingly - which keeps you motivated and makes practicing fun. He's got a huge range and can easily switch between styles if you have diverse interests. He's also cool about letting you decide how much focus you want to put on theory and learning to read music, so you never feel like you're just grinding through anything in order to get to the fun stuff. He's also just a really nice, funny dude so lessons are enjoyable from start to finish. I especially like the games he uses to teach various techniques/sight reading/improving your ear, etc. Really glad I ended up taking lessons with Chris, can't recommend him enough. :-)"

"My 11-year-old daughter has had lessons with Jessica for about three months and has learned so much from Jessica. Prior to these online lessons, our daughter started learning cello with a local teacher for about 3-4 months. The teacher stopped giving lessons unexpectedly and we couldn't find a replacement so decided to go online. Doing music lessons online with someone you haven't met in person can seem daunting, but Jessica has figured out how to come across over Skype as fully present, engaged, positive and encouraging. We almost feel as if she's there in person. She can pick up on many things by asking the right questions and follows through with proper advice and recommendations for improvement. At one point, our daughter had concerns with wrist pain and Jessica fully took it upon herself to look into the matter. Jessica is very timely and flexible. At times we've had to adjust the schedule and she was quite accommodating. She also had to work with our daughter's solo performance at school and amazingly in less than 2 months prepared her for the piece. We highly recommend."

Is There Such Thing as a Left-Handed Cello? How to Play as a Leftie

Handedness is the sense that one hand is more dexterous or coordinated compared to the other. Researchers usually determine an individual’s handedness by observing which hand is used to write or eat. Although the causes of handedness are not fully understood, about 10% of the population is left handed or ambidextrous according to Dr. M.K. Holder, a researcher and specialist on handedness. Many left handed students wonder if they will need a specialized instrument in order to learn to play …

What are the Hardest Cello Pieces? How to Get from Beginner to Advanced Player

As a beginner I often told myself I would know I am a really great cellist when I could play Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee at full speed. To my young ears, this simply had to be one of the hardest cello pieces with its high range, chromaticism, and famously fast tempo. As my musical career continued I worked on these and other skills to reach a point I could begin learning the piece confidently, and it was only a matter of time before I achieved my goal. Of course, this wasn’ …
