*** Lesson Details *** Students who study with me can expect for their guitar, drum kit, percussion, or piano lessons to be top-quality, personalized, and above all, extremely fun sessions that will cater to the students musical backgrounds, interests, and needs. I create extremely organized and specifically focused lessons so that students feel comfortable, not pressured, while learning their craft. The lessons I teach are a combination of developmental sight reading music, learning student chosen songs (depending on ability), inspiring and encouraging creative abilities, warm-up and strengthening exercises, proper techniques, listening for internal hearing, composition dynamics, chords, finger-picking (guitar only) and rudiments (drum kit only).
After 3 months of lessons together, students will have started learning several key elements to becoming an outstanding musician. They will have learned proper form and technique, warm-up/skill-building exercises, to read basic notation, and basic rhythms/rudiments. Guitar/Piano students will be able to play at least one song utilizing both melody and chords. For drum kit/percussion, students should have no problem reading basic drum beats and being able to play through a simple song. With proper, steady practice, most students will achieve much more. I also focus on creative thinking, professionalism, and instrument tuning. Finally, the students will have started to develop a solid level of discipline that is required of any aspiring human being! Remember, "practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent."
*** Studio Equipment *** Electronic Roland V-Drums, Acoustic and Electric Guitars, Casio CTK-800, LP Assorted Percussions, Protools LE, Logic Pro, Korg Electribe, Pioneer XDJ-XR, Music Books
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide drum sticks, guitar, keyboards, percussion instruments, and all developmental material for students to retain and practice.
I expect my students to be providing the necessary musical equipment as well (guitars, drum kits, percussion instruments, piano/keyboard) for private lessons in home. If they do not have these in the home to practice with, the lessons are much less effective for your student.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in the following styles of playing:
Rock, Hip - Hop, All Latin, Jazz, Funk, Blues, R and B, Gospel, and Dance. I also have a very good feel for World Music as well. I have a very free-spirit for playing, so I often mesh the above stated styles into a more progressive style of playing. I believe that you must be feeling what you are playing.
I also specialize in DJing, beat programming/sequencing, recording, organizing song-writing/song-structure, musical score, live performance, and professional music marketing. I am able to show you how to use programs such as Logic Pro, Protools LE, Adobe, and Pioneer programs to take your creative abilities to the next level.
I believe that these days, it is imperative for musicians to have four major components in their professional arsenal: 1) Discipline and chops on your instruments (including reading music notation); 2) Know how to successfully market yourself and your music; 3) Know how to properly develop a learning ear to record/produce your songs/tracks as well as for others; and 4) Understand and effectively utilize music production programs.
I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your musical desires. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a music-filled day.

Hi, I'm John! I'm a full-time musician, currently splitting my time between teaching drums and touring with indie rock band Step Rockets. I've been fortunate enough to spend the past 12 years teaching, recording, and performing across North America.
I started drumming at the age of 10, honing my chops under the tutelage of drummer/vibraphonist Steve Roehm, member of the acclaimed Twin Cities jazz trio, The New Standards. I continued my musical education at St. Olaf College, where I played drums in the college's nationally accredited Jazz One ensemble while studying percussion with jazz veterans Phil Hey and Dave Hagedorn. I then spent three years teaching students in St. Paul Public Schools while developing a strong base of private drum students in the Twin Cities.
I love sharing my passion for drums with people of all ages
and musical backgrounds. I provide a fun and stimulating learning environment in which students can foster their drum skills and grow their love of music. I have a thorough understanding of drumming technique coupled with an in-depth knowledge of different styles and genres, which I've accumulated through playing with a wide variety of bands and ensembles.
*** Lesson Details *** I provide a laid back atmosphere, ensuring that lessons are equal parts fun and education. I tailor my curriculum based on my students' skill level and interests. I can teach any number of drum set skills, from technique and music reading to advanced coordination and improvisation.
*** Studio Equipment *** Sound-Proof Studio w/ Full Drum Kit
*** Specialties *** Sight-Reading; Rudiments; Improvisation; Technique; Genres: Funk, Hip-Hop, Rock, Jazz, Latin (Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Latin-Jazz), Pop, Country, etc.
The first week is awesome. I had taken a class at a college for a quarter. I did very well and learned a lot. With that, John knew right where to start with me. Looking forward to getting the best sound I can. Thanks, John.

John is THE BEST. He is as knowledgeable as they come, inspires my daughter to become her best self, is communicative and flexible. Honestly, I am scared he will become too popular — he's OURS! <3

John is our perfect instructor: approachable, positive, encouraging, upbeat, makes my shy child comfortable and motivated. We love him!
Rhythm is one of the essential elements of music. A background in drumming can help you to better understand any instrument.
Performing and recording musician with several groups for over 15 years. I have been teaching private lessons and classes in community education to students of all ages since 2007. I have also taught music in early childhood education, St. Paul Public Schools as well as music therapy programs at Minnesota Veterans Homes. Every student is an individual and responds better to different teaching styles as well as learn at their own pace. My goal as
a teacher is to give you an enjoyable experience in learning a new instrument and to tailor the lessons based on your interests and goals. After the first few months a beginner student can expect to have learned basic techniques and useful skills to allow them to play simple songs and melodies with ease.
*** Studio Equipment *** Lessons are taught in a studio with amps, acoustic guitars and electric guitars, ukuleles, along with fretless and fretted bass guitars, drums, microphones, recording equipment and software, are available for a student to use during the lesson time.
*** Specialties *** Simplifying concepts and process. Breaking down elements of how to play Pop, Jazz, Funk, Blues, Rock, Folk etc.
23 Years playing experience, 13 years of teaching, stage performance, technique, rudiments, drills, fills, all styles, specializes in rock, funk, hip-hop and R&B.
Colin has 20 years of experience spanning all genre's and styles of music. Countless hours of stage performance with bands. A love, drive and passion for music and drumming you won't find in any other instructor! Multiple studio recordings both behind the mixing board and behind the drum set. 10 years of teaching experience, realizing the importance of setting a unique curriculum for each student tailored to fit each individual's goals and interests. I have been involved in bands ever since middle school, starting with rock, and moving on to perform in country bands, hip-hop performances, indie rock bands, and progressive rock bands. A strong knowledge of jazz techniques and music theory as well as the ability to read drum sheet music make me a perfect instructor for any student. I have had many beginner and intermediate level student's
and have become proficient in determining what skills each individual student needs to work on as well as helping students progress in their interests, keeping the lessons fun and the student motivated. I can easily transcribe any song as well! So any song you might want to learn, even if there is no sheet music, is totally doable. I love working in odd time signatures and I prefer fancy hi-hat work over heavy double-bass drum use. Progressive / Indie rock is my favorite genre of music to play, but I have tons of fun playing hip-hop, punk, metal, I dabble in jazz, Latin rhythms, and pretty much anything else. I'm always excited to play drums, and I pass this excitement on in my teachings.
*** Lesson Details *** Lessons and curriculum's are built around a students experience level, age, and goals. Students will learn the fundamentals of drumming, as well as the ability to add flair and pizzazz to their playing. Within the first 3 months, a beginning level student will have the ability to play basic beats found in many styles of music, as well as feeling comfortable playing to a metronome and keeping time. Lessons will include routines to be practiced by the student on their own time, as well as fun, exciting techniques to keep students interested and motivated to continue playing. Each Lesson will hold its own highlights depending on the student. I believe getting to know the student and their goals for their drumming is one of the most important aspects of teaching lessons. Understanding whether the student is looking to drum as a hobby and for fun will change the lesson style dramatically compared to a student looking to make a living off drumming. The types of routines, styles and techniques taught should fit into helping the student reach their desired destination.
*** Studio Equipment *** Lessons in the basement, full band rehearsal set up with 2 drum kits, one for the student, one for the teacher in an acoustically treated room.
*** Travel Equipment *** I would expect the student to have a drum set and drum sticks. I can provide a drum set for lessons but it is important for the student to have a drum set or practice pad to practice.
*** Specialties *** I have touched on almost every genre of music. I specialize in rock, progressive rock, funk and fusion.
Colin is very friendly and sociable. He taught us how to set up the drum kits on the first day.

Ray is a wonderful drum teacher to my 13 year old son. He is not only, a passionate and talented musician, but also a great instructor, who is capable of conveying his knowledge into age appropriate lessons that are easy, relateball, fun, and customized to fit the individual skill level, interests and goals of each student.

Ray is great. Very knowledgeable and personable. He tuned into what I needed to know right away and had two beautiful drum kits set up and ready to play.
I have been teaching drums for 9 years. Currently working with 2 music schools. Instead of playing in bands, i choose to teach in all my music life.
I'm teaching drums for 9 years am currently teaching around 20 lessons a week to students ranging in ability from beginner to professional. My versatility, experience and formal training helps me to make the learning experience easy, stress free and fun.
Some of the musical styles I regularly teach: Rock, Indie Rock, Metal, Hard Rock, Alternative, Pop, Punk, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Soul, R&B, Classical.
I have been playing drums for more than 10 years and have been teaching for more than 3. Throughout that time, I have played across the country in New York City and even in Japan. I am currently a Jazz Studies Major at Sacramento State University. My goal is to make every student a well-rounded drummer who knows whats going on when they are in any type of musical situation. My favorite style to play is jazz, but I am well-rounded in all other styles such as rock, Latin, blues, funk, and country.
In my lessons, I base the material on the student depending on how advanced they are. If the student is just starting out, I will teach them the basics such as holding the drumsticks properly, basic rudiments, reading rhythms, learning about the hardware, and so on.
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask :D
I started playing drums when I was in second grade and formed a band with my 2 older brothers who played bass and guitar. It was something to do when we younger but when I got into high school, I took playing drums a lot more seriously. I was in a very competitive marching band playing bass drum and tenors in the drumline and at the same time, I was introduced to jazz drumming. The improvising aspect of jazz drumming sparked my love for it because the freedom it gave me to express myself was something drumline could not do. After getting state recognition for my playing in jazz bands, I transferred to a high school with a more intensive jazz program. I am currently a jazz studies major at California State University, Sacramento. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

"As a long-time multi-instrumentalist and guitar teacher, I believe Andy's approach to teaching is one you should always look for in a first teacher. His p

Imagine you're traveling to a foreign country, and you decide to learn the language. You would probably start with simple words or phrases - "Hello, my name is..." or "Where is the subway?". With the basics, and maybe a reference guide at your side, you'd probably get along just fine.
But for those of you who have mastered a second language, think about how much easier it got once you delved a little deeper: grammar rules, formal vs. informal language, even the evolution of the culture and …
