About JingJing
Hi, I am a multi-international prize winner and a dedicated teacher. A piano performance graduate of Manhattan School of Music and University of Illinois, I have collaborated as soloist with major orchestras in China, USA, Europe and South America for fifteen years.

In the summer of 2006, I made my critically acclaimed European debut at the International Piano Festivals held in Spain and Canary Islands. In 2008, I was selected by famous New York critics David Dubal to perform in his lecture concert series, live broadcast on WQXR. From October of 2008 to July 2009, I won five international competition awards around globe, which led me to several concert tours in the following years. In August of 2009, I participated in the prestigious George Enescu International Music Festival in Bucharest. In May of 2010, I participated in the Gilmor
e Keyboard Festival Masterclass in Kalamazoo. That year also marked my recital and concerto debut in Panama and Colombia as well as in Krannert Center of Performing Arts in Illinois. In 2012, I made my solo recital debut at Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago. Besides my frequent solo appearances,I have been an active collaborative chamber musician.I have performed a number of chamber music concerts with many instrumentalists around the world, highlighting a tour with a string quartet around the Netherlands in August, 2007, after having received two-week-long coaching with Menahem Pressler and Shumel Ashkenasi.

Along with my performing career, I have been teaching young piano students since I was eighteen. I have experience teaching all age-group in masterclasses and private lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
I love teaching all age-group piano students! I find teaching is rewarding when a student is making progress, learning effectively and having fun with music. My teaching style and lesson focus will be unique for each individual person, and I'm very flexible in adapting to each student's needs and personality. My specialty is to discover and make each student find their own technique and sound on piano.

I am a friendly, easy-going and patient teacher, but I do have expectations. My ultimate goal is to help each student cultivate spiritual and physical well-being, along with the ability to recognize and develop personal and musical strengths, and to recognize and address respective weaknesses.

Magic piano teacher

I have known Jingjing personally through his performances for five years and recently my 6-year old son started having lessons with him. At first, my son wasn't really be able to sit tight for 10 minutes but after a few lessons, he could concentrate for 25-30 minutes. Jingjing's lessons are magical! And my son enjoys the lessons now. He already played a few folk songs and was encouraged to compose his own music at the piano. I really appreciate Jingjing's effort!

I've written, performed and recorded my own album which made it to the 2nd round of the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and was a voting member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Grammy Committee and NARAS (National Association or the Recording Arts and Sciences.) Becky was a phenomenal instructor! She has a genuine enthusiasm for teaching and music is obviously a large part of her life. She provides great analogies to help her students grasp concepts. And she inquired about my goals and was a great resource for pursuing them. I had to suspend my lessons because life got a little too busy, but if I find the time again, I'd definitely look to return to her for instruction.

Music Theory often scares beginning guitarists but it really shouldn't. When teaching theory, I always relate it to what the student is working on and make a point to demonstrate how to build upon it in a inspiring way. Words can't express the how everything starts to connect for the student when they learn how to conceptualize what is happening in the the music that moves them. Once these building blocks are learned, the student starts to identify the same exciting aspects in other music regardless of genre. In addition, I always make a point to connect every topic to the students ear so that they know when they hear it. This way, they can improvise, react with other musicians, and compose music effortlessly.

About Phil
With over 15 years experience teaching guitar lessons full time and performing internationally, I have enjoyed working with students ranging from beginner to advanced in all styles whether it be Jazz, Rock , Heavy Metal, Folk, Blues and everything in between. It is my goal as a teacher to evaluate your existing level and work to inspire you and to help achieve your goals. Whether you want to study Jazz Improvisation, Van Halen, James Taylor, or Guns and Roses, I believe all styles are interconnected and your technique, theory, ear-training, and musicianship can be developed through any style that interests you. Above all else, learning how to play the guitar should be FUN and INSPIRING! So, contact me on take lessons and lets get started!

Resume is available upon request.

Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincer
ely,
Phil S.

Some press:

Phil's compositions showcase a variety of ideas and are quite effective at setting up the soloists to explore the various permutations suggested by his tunes. His compositional originality is matched by his incisive playing which ranges from "inside" lyricism to hard edged, riff based, screaming rock and satisfying surreal textures aided by his intelligent use of electronics."
- David Kane, Cadence Music

"With demonstrative technique, Phil is cognizant of the tradition but thinks outside of the box."

Although I'm not technically a student of Phil's, I learn a lot from him every time I play and teach with him. We perform regularly at Berklee, where I'm a professor, and we give concerts and masterclasses all over the Northeast together (most recent was at Cornell). Phil's a warmhearted, patient, brilliant teacher and an outstanding and creative musician, seamlessly putting together everything he knows--jazz, shredding, classical--there's no boundaries for him! He's great at explaining things, and he never belittles a question, no matter how dumb you might have thought it was. Phil's a great friend and a great teacher. -John Funkhouser, Berklee College of Music, Boston

In addition to being the most talented guitarist and musician I have ever had the opportunity to play with, Phil is an astoundingly good teacher. I've played guitar for 8 years and taken private lessons the entire time. Phil has been my teacher for the past 2 years and in that time I have progressed as a musician more than I could have ever imagined. Phil has been the biggest factor in my decision to major in music, due to his unrivaled musical talent, his kind, unassuming, (and funny) demeanor and his seemingly limitless knowledge of the fretboard. He is well versed in so many genres of music, and has such an effortless grasp on improvisation. Any guitarist, from immediate beginners to seasoned professionals, can learn so much from Phil. Learn music theory from note reading to chord structures to major/minor keys.

Ear training is also taught with music theory.

About Paul
***My goal as a teacher***

I try to teach what the students are interested in and make it fun and interesting so that they learn the lessons and their favorite songs. Every student is different and needs to be taught in a way that makes learning easy and fun for them.

I have a passion for all people and all ages and am blessed to be able to teach from the very young, (ages 2-5 Toddlermusik lessons) to teens and adults.....all the way to senior citizens. I've had many older students all the way up to a 93 year old gentleman who is taking singing lessons and asked me to put music to his lyrics. We have recorded over 50 songs together.

***Background***

I started playing trumpet in 5th grade and knew that music was for me. I also liked playing with drums and piano also because they seemed exciting. I've competed in WSMA (Wi
sconsin School Music Assoc.) for many years which taught me a lot about performing for judges, being relaxed, and the importance of preparation.

I started playing the guitar and bass guitar when I was 13 and have never stopped practicing and performing since. I also have done a lot of writing, recording, producing, and have a Pro Tools Studio for students to use.

***College and Teaching***

I began teaching music lessons in college and enjoyed it very much. I received my B.A. in Music from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. There I was very much involved with guitar, piano, voice, trumpet, and being in bands and writing music. After receiving my B.A. I also took 3 years of Education classes at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. I write, produce, and perform my music along with performing with bands around the Midwest.

***Life in Music***

After receiving my B.A. in Music, I continued teaching and opened up my home studio. After a year and a half I had enough students that I was able to quit my factory job and teach music full time. I've been teaching, performing, and writing music ever since.

***Performing and more***

I have been on stage performing music since I was 11. In school band, marching band, competing in music competitions, and in bands touring the Midwest.

I have recorded many CDs with bands and on my own. My most ambitious project was a CD of my original music called, "Girls". I've performed my music and promoted it by being interviewed on Milwaukee radio stations along with internet music sites such as CD Baby. It is very exciting talking on live radio about my music and my passion. It is also even more exciting, and scary, playing my music live on the radio, lol.

***Instruments Taught***

I have been teaching for over 2 decades. Students take lessons for:
* guitar (electric / acoustic)
* piano
* voice
* drums
* trumpet
* saxophone
* harmonica
* music theory / ear training
* studio recording / songwriting

I also give kindermusik lessons to 2-5 year old all the way up to senior citizens 70-93. I play parties, concerts, and Nursing Home performances.

I am experienced as an online (Skype) instructor, and I have taught online lessons worldwide. I've witnessed great results from my online students (both national and international).

I hope I can help you with all of your musical goals and get you going in a positive musical direction.

Paul is a very qualified teacher, of many instruments, drums, keyboards, guitar, and others. I'm 59 years old, Paul doesn't mind my age, doesn't treat me like I'm too old to learn new stuff. And is more than willing to see me thru complete guitar instruction. Thanks Paul...

Ayman is an amazing drum teacher! He not only touches on how to read music notation but also gives you the freedom to incorporate your own sense of style in your drumming. He knows the mechanics when it comes to being technical but also on how to feel the music. He has a great passion for this art form, and if you are also passionate as a student, only good will come from taking his lessons!!
