Violin is one of my favorites to listen to and includes such a wide range of music, from fiddle, to blues to of course classical.
Michael has worked with kids for 10 years in schools and arts programs to find fun and their best self through performance. He has taught orchestra, chamber music, jazz band and music theory in the public schools, while performing in local ensembles in and around the city. He also has studied drama, voice and movement and believes all these skills help in expressing yourself--no matter what pieces you want to play!
In addition to working with students K-12, he also loves working with adults. I try to provide a nurturing atmosphere for someone trying revive or discover previously hidden musical interests!
*** Lesson Details *** We begin with what we love. The student usually chooses one of his or her favorite songs to interpret. Later, we add music, usually from the classical or jazz fields, that build our skills and help us f
eel successful. All technique is based on real music. Learning scales, keys and music theory become part of the music. By the end of 6 months, we will have a "repertoire" of several songs that express our best self!
I have been teaching violin since 1998. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I presently teach music at 3 schools (1 college) and only have a few lessons slots available. I look forward to working with you.

So you thought the violin is only meant to play Classical music? Think again! With over 13 years of experience in improvisation in many different musical styles on the violin, I will show you the methods to explore and teach yourself any type of musical style you'd wish to play!
Although being mainly a Jazz violinist, I have performed and recorded in many different musical genres and improvisation styles including Blues, Trad Jazz, Rock, Indian Classical music, Bluegrass, Jewish Klezmer music and more. Since students spend most of their crucial development time individually in the practice room, as a teacher my biggest ambition is to teach my students 'how to be your own teacher' (I know it's kinda shooting myself in the foot :] ). Based on my 20 years experience playing the violin and other instruments, my training in Alexander technique, teaching artistry, psychology, philosophy and meditation, I've accumulated a set of methods and ideas about how to ...
An award-winning Jazz violinist and a graduate of The Newschool of Jazz, These days I'm recording and performing on stages around the world playing Jazz, Rock, Folk and more. Would love to share with you some of my secrets! Teaching improvisation and basic violin for all levels. Also teaching audition prep and ear training! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A few years ago a musician I really admire told me how he believes that every musician has to be teaching at some point in his career. He has seen it not only as a suggestion but as an obligation, a responsibility of an artist to pass on his knowledge for the next generations. My life circumstances only make this belief stronger within me year after year.
As a young Violinist in Israel that experienced a crisis with Class
ical music and the Classical school, I’ve been looking around for non-classical Violin teachers in vain. I’ve figured out that in order to play the music I want on the Violin I’m going to have to teach it to myself, thus becoming an independent learner which is most likely the greatest gift I’ve ever received as a musician and a teacher. I had to read books, watch videos, ask people how they practice, use my ears because I had no scores to any of the music I wanted to play, explore. I had to criticize myself, I had to remain conscious about my playing and what I think is missing in my playing in comparison to other players, analyze what is it that excites me in one’s music or playing. Most of all, I had the privilege to remain attentive to any new idea being suggested to me, because no one ever taught me what the “truth” is.
Be your own teacher. That is perhaps the only “truth” I would force upon my students. As part of my teaching philosophy, I'm seeking to not only teach my students the skills they wish to acquire but to show them how to determine and teach themselves new skills they 'need' or desire to acquire.
With over 8 years of experience teaching private students of all levels and conducting Jazz violin workshops for small groups, I like to incorporate my knowledge in music teaching with other knowledge in learning techniques and education I've acquired through training in Psychology, leadership and education, Alexander technique, Teaching artistry, meditation and social work.
Omer has been an excellent teacher! I’ve over heard several lessons with him and my son and I’m always impressed by the breath of knowledge he has. In just a few weeks my son has been inspired to play the piano for hours at a time. Originally Omer was going to teach my son violin but they switched to piano so that they could explore their common interest in composing music for film. I am immensely pleased with him and recommend him wholeheartedly!

First lesson ended with such a good feeling of well being. I believe I am in the right hands. Omer is patient; and he listens as well as talks.

I have been playing in a string quartet with Omer for two years and I can easily say he's one of the most talented musicians I've ever worked with. He's also a kind, intelligent, and reliable person. Judging from the skills he displays in quartet work I have no hesitation in saying that he is a wonderful teacher.

Let's journey into the violin matrix together! This partnership includes an exemplary method of developing classical technique and musicianship. I have always had a passion for music education; recognizing value in a connected musical process for all age ranges and skill levels. All individuals are welcomed and encouraged to bring an interest in foundational learning and trusting the process. The violin matrix produces confident violinists with an improved musical process and performance experience. These skills are often life changing to any student who comes through the door with curiosity and imagination. It's not just just a philosophy, but rather a pragmatic means towards musical and social development that altered the course of my life as well. I look forward to sharing it with many more motivated students.
Being a young professional violinist and teacher, relatability and authenticity are key factors within my lessons. We are now living in a deeply globalized and modern world, therefore relationships with active and and ambitious musicians are necessary. The moment that one thinks they have learned "what it takes" is exactly when others are able to surpass them. Stemming from this mindset, I also continue my studies with some of the best violinists and other musicians that I have encountered from around the world. This demonstrates a principal of not only informed teaching, but also living the lifestyle that I preach every day.
For many years, I have been working closely with one of the most talented violinists of our generation, Cory Lee ( graduated - The Juilliard School & Yale School of Music ). Mr. Lee has perform
ed as a violin soloist in Carnegie Hall on several occasions, is a member of the acclaimed New York City ensemble ETHEL, and founder of Liberated Performer; a game-changing teaching method on how to understand and overcome performance anxiety.
As a result, I have been invited to live and study in New York City and abroad over the past five years. While in NYC, I performed in many notable venues including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Le Poisson Rouge. Afterwards, my development led me to Reykjavik, Iceland for an intense training period in violin and vocal performance. During this time, I was able to experience first hand exactly what it takes to invoke a career as a musician within some of the most challenging and rewarding musical environments.
Education - 2013 to 2017
Bachelor of Arts degree from Denison University in violin performance ( 4.00 / 4.00 music major GPA ) and received the distinguished achievements of Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

My two participating seasons have included multiple performances at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City while respectively featuring Jeffrey Zeigler (2015) and Nadia Sirota (2016).
All ages are welcome, but especially the very youthful and very curious! Violin is my secondary instrument, which I play in various pit orchestras and bluegrass ensembles. If you're just starting out, I'd love to help inspire and energize in you the same passion for music that fuels me. Students can expect to master basic music theory, gain confidence in their technique, and, importantly, learn to hang with the youth orchestras and symphonies they're sure to encounter in the future. Wherever you're at right now, I've been there, and I know how to help you out of your practice rut and launch you into new adventures. Shoot me a message and let's talk!
I'm a student biologist, chemist, writer, violist, violinist, pianist, guitarist, and music arranger (not usually at the same time). I primarily play viola in symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles; occasionally I'll jump to violin in pit orchestra productions for musicals. I'm currently pursuing a major in Molecular Biology and a minor in Music. I've had an effusive passion for learning and an ineffable desire to share it with others for as long as I can remember. I hope to go into science education after graduate school, while still maintaining my strong ties to the music programs I'm fortunate to be around.

Honors and Awards: - Carmel High School Orchestra Most Inspirational, Outstanding Achievement (2019) - Youth Music Monterey Pam and Chuck McGowin Award for Outstanding Contributions (2019) - Central Coast Section Honors Orchestra (2018, 2019) - California Orchestra Directors' Association Honors Orchestra (2017, 2018)
Recently, I was named Most Inspirational and given an Outstanding Achievement award for my work in my school's music program. I was incredibly lucky to be able to arrange and orchestrate 'Ripple' for the string orchestra, in honor of a late teacher. For the same teacher, I later arranged five more campy 70s tunes--among which were Mr. Blue Sky and September--for a benefit concert that I helped lead.
I'm unfortunately unable to give advice to advanced students, since I'm always learning myself. However, if you're just starting out on the viola or violin, I'd love to teach you using what I've learned! The memories of my own journey are fresh for me, and I know it can sometimes be discouraging or aimless. My goal is to guide you towards the blinding light at the end of the tunnel and to help you out of whatever plateau you're in, whether you're in a transition period to a higher-level orchestra or if you don't know where to start putting your fingers.

"JoAnne is a wonderful instructor with many years of experience. She is patient and helpful. I highly recommend this teacher if you are looking to play the
fiddle or violin."
"Teaching skills are superb and scheduling is flexible to what you need. Easy to work with and assists you with any errors and/or questions you may have."
"My son has been taking violin lessons with Hallie for almost one year. He started just after he turned 4. My concern when he started was that he was too
young but Hallie has obviously taught kids his age before and knows what she is doing. She is creative in order to keep a four year old interested and engaged. She is also warm and positive. Most importantly, he's really learning how to play and about music in general - it is a wonderful feeling when he makes strides and does something that seemed so out-of-reach before."
"Our 5 year old daughter had her first lesson with Joshua and he was excellent. We look forward to working with him."
"Bye! Thank You!"
"I am very happy with the results of my first class. Doyle is very professional and is a man after my own principles. I recommend him for classes 100%."
"Humberto is a very patient and motivating teacher, I look forward to my 2nd class."
"Carolyn was wonderful with my daughter we really liked her she had a very positive attitude and we were thrilled can't wait for our next lesson"

And while it may initially seem challenging to learn to play this popular instrument, mastering the basics of violin yields beautiful and inspiring results.
