I am very patient, and beginners to experienced players are all welcome!
I teach all styles of guitar, as I have been in many different types of music situations: Soloist (Classical) Ensemble (Classical and Jazz) Lead and Rhythm (Various Rock and Roll bands) Songwriting and Recording. I am a people person that learned the guitar from many different sources. Most of my learning came from watching others and communicating with others. I like to learn about the people I am teaching so that I can better understand their needs as a musician. My education came as a practical necessity in order to get better as a teacher and performer, as well as make a living doing it. But, by no means do I preach the need to be "educated" but only to be a working, practical musician. I will surely go over the need to read music once the need becomes evident, enlighten you as to why it may be important to understand certain aspect
s of music as opposed to just "picking and grinning", IE learning only "By Ear." I do specialize in music theory, and have many students taking lessons simply for this excellent foundation for songwriting also.
I am a classically trained guitarist that performs both as a soloist and for ensemble in a wide variety of styles. I graduated in 1996 from Schoolcraft College with an Associates degree in Music performance, and then, studying under the tutelage of Brian Roberts went on to receive my Bachelor's degree in Guitar Performance with a secondary in Jazz from Wayne State University in 2004. While at Wayne State and along the way I've performed and participated in several masterclasses with renowned artists: William Kanengiser, John Holmquest, Philip Candelaria, Jason Vieaux, Scott Tennant, and Antigoni Goni. I have also completed the teacher requirements for books 1-a and 1-b for the Suzuki Guitar Institute.
Many of my classical guitar and electric guitar students have went on to study further at the collegiate level, some achieving scholarships. My most recent students are current Berklee school of music graduates now in a band called "Flight of Fire", recently opened for Bonjovi this past summer and are getting air time on local radio stations... well on their way to living the dream! â¦the bulk of my students become full time professional musicians.
*** Lesson Details *** I am an extremely patient person who has been teaching for over 20 years. I am laid back so there will be no pressure. With my electric and steel string guitar students, I host a special "Jam Session" 2 - 3 times a year to which will be one of your goals to participate in. This includes playing with a drummer, bassist, singer and another guitar player (usually me) and having it recorded. This should serve as your motivation to practice. This really eliminates the need for me to pull out a "yardstick" and "smack" your hands over the knuckles when not practicing your scales as many old traditional teachers may have done!
At your first lesson I will talk with you and give you examples of music that is played with a Flat-Pick, or music that uses the Finger-Style technique. This will be an important process as it will dictate which direction you will go in as a musician and especially during our lessons.
For the most part, playing with a Flat-Pick is generally used with the electric guitar and with most mainstream styles of music like "Rock and Roll", "Blues", "Rock-a-Billy" "Funk", and playing with the Finger-Style technique is used in styles like "Classical" and "Folk." After a while, I will introduce you to the other style of playing as well, as most great guitar players use both techniques in their playing...musicians (guitarists) such as: âJimmy Pageâ, âBrian Setzerâ, âStevie Ray Vaughanâ, âJoe Satrianiâ, âLindsey Buckinghamâ, âPaul McCartneyâ, âJohn Mayerâ, and many, many more.
To make learning the guitar Fun, I make sure to incorporate your main interest(s) first. Whether it be learning your new favorite song(s), learning how to write a song, or just learning some basics that you can use for when sitting around the campfire. This will be intertwined with which style you choose to start with: Flat-Pick or Finger-Style.
Pending on the level that you are starting at, (beginner, intermediate, advanced) I will include tidbits of music theory that will be used in a consistent manner. These will usually be progressive, pending on your level. For example, the songs you learn will be written out in an easy to understand chart that will have the fundamental aspects of theory (IE, chords, key, and rhythm pattern) that all musicians should understand.
With Children learning with a Flat-Pick, I encourage the use of a basic guitar instruction book. Level One (beginners) :
"Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book One" by Will Schmid.
I will also use as a substitute for Level One: "Alfred's Basic Guitar Method" by Alfred's Publishing Co.
More advanced players who can read music already (and graduates from book one) I prefer; "Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book Two"
With Adults, I will ask if learning to read music interests you. It is a vital part of a practicing musician, but sometimes your needs may require a more one dimensional approach as time may be of essence. Again, I learned by ear and educated myself later...so I understand the person who wants to hold off on reading right away.
Students who want to learn the Classical (Finger-Style) approach will be encouraged to purchase a beginners book that I use written by one of my first instructors/mentor. It is a very intuitive book that covers the technique in great detail yet is very easy to understand (along with my help.) I will provide means of acquiring this book at your first lesson.
Students who want to learn the Folk (Finger-Style) approach will usually start in the above book, unless your an adult who just wants to learn some basics.
At your first lesson I will also provide you with documentation that goes more in depth about the various styles of guitar as the above info is scaled down.

I only got to take lessons from Marc for a couple of months in the summer of 2016 (I had to move away for work), but he is hands down the best music teacher I've ever encountered. It's a year and a half later and I'm still benefitting from his tutelage. From beginner to advanced, you've found the right guy for the job.

Marc is a great classical guitar teacher. He makes learning fun and easy. I highly recommend him.

After a brief intro, Mike explained where're going with his lessons. I was having some problems getting my fingers near certain fret areas he wanted me to work on, so he very kindly placed some colors tape where I'm to put my fingers. That helped a lot. Been practicing an hour per day, & I'm getting a bit better daily. I've got a long way to go, but with Mike's help I'll get there. ELLIOT

I graduated with a BA in jazz studies from Columbia in 2007 and have been teaching since 2005. I have played in many different projects, covering many styles including Rock, Jazz, Latin, Hip hop, classical, orchestral, and country. So, I have a strong understanding on the specifics of each of these styles, and a big part of my lesson plan is to teach my students to be as versatile as possible. Hence they have many options as far as playing music. I also play a wide variety of instruments including Piano, Latin Percussion, Mallets, Drum set, Guitar, and bass, so if at any point a student has an interest in trying something different t they have many options.

***My goal as a teacher***
I try to teach what the students are interested in and make it fun and interesting so that they learn the lessons and their favorite songs. Every student is different and needs to be taught in a way that makes learning easy and fun for them.
I have a passion for all people and all ages and am blessed to be able to teach from the very young, (ages 2-5 Toddlermusik lessons) to teens and adults.....all the way to senior citizens. I've had many older students all the way up to a 93 year old gentleman who is taking singing lessons and asked me to put music to his lyrics. We have recorded over 50 songs together.
I started playing trumpet in 5th grade and knew that music was for me. I also liked playing with drums and piano also because they seemed exciting. I've competed in WSMA (Wi
sconsin School Music Assoc.) for many years which taught me a lot about performing for judges, being relaxed, and the importance of preparation.
I started playing the guitar and bass guitar when I was 13 and have never stopped practicing and performing since. I also have done a lot of writing, recording, producing, and have a Pro Tools Studio for students to use.
***College and Teaching***
I began teaching music lessons in college and enjoyed it very much. I received my B.A. in Music from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. There I was very much involved with guitar, piano, voice, trumpet, and being in bands and writing music. After receiving my B.A. I also took 3 years of Education classes at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. I write, produce, and perform my music along with performing with bands around the Midwest.
***Life in Music***
After receiving my B.A. in Music, I continued teaching and opened up my home studio. After a year and a half I had enough students that I was able to quit my factory job and teach music full time. I've been teaching, performing, and writing music ever since.
***Performing and more***
I have been on stage performing music since I was 11. In school band, marching band, competing in music competitions, and in bands touring the Midwest.
I have recorded many CDs with bands and on my own. My most ambitious project was a CD of my original music called, "Girls". I've performed my music and promoted it by being interviewed on Milwaukee radio stations along with internet music sites such as CD Baby. It is very exciting talking on live radio about my music and my passion. It is also even more exciting, and scary, playing my music live on the radio, lol.
I have been teaching for over 2 decades. Students take lessons for: * guitar (electric / acoustic) * piano * violin * voice * drums * trumpet * saxophone * harmonica * music theory / ear training * studio recording / songwriting
I also give kindermusik lessons to 2-5 year old all the way up to senior citizens 70-93. I play parties, concerts, and Nursing Home performances.
I am experienced as an online (Skype) instructor, and I have taught online lessons worldwide. I've witnessed great results from my online students (both national and international).
I hope I can help you with all of your musical goals and get you going in a positive musical direction.
This was my first experience with on line teaching and it was great. I had tried reading the books and watching some videos on You Tube and was not making progress. Just a few minutes with Paul and what I couldn't figure out suddenly made sense.
Looking forward to next week.

My son loves his lessons, he gets really nervous prior because he always wants to get it right however, he likes the fact he’s at home and no one is watching him as he’s learning! As his parents we like that as a military family that will be moving again this is something that we can keep normal for him since it’s done online as well! Paul Neatherly is wonderful with him as well and very patient! I recommend this service and Paul to anyone looking for this type of learning!
February 21, 2018
Extremely knowledgeable. Pays attention to detail and he makes it easy for me to understand. I’m looking forward to my future lessons!
I will get students playing the songs they like right away as they learn new skills that will improve their playing.

I also have experience with song writing and recording as well as performing. I can help you learn to play Pop, Rock, Classical, Country, Bluegrass, Folk, Heavy Metal, and Thrash Metal music. If you have any questions, just ask. Don't forget to click the "GREEN BUTTON" to get started right away!
I am a songwriter and guitar player, performing in two bands around Boston. I play both acoustic and electric guitar, mostly in pop/rock/blues styles.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, I have a good foundation of music theory, and try to incorporate this knowledge together with instrumental studies. I am a current Guitar Instructor at a local music school.
2 decades of playing experience, I studied classical violin growing up and began teaching my first student at the age of 16 - I have been teaching violin to students of all ages for over 10 years of all levels and styles.
I completed all the ABRSM exams and earned an ATCL diploma from Trinity College in Classical Violin Performance.
I perform both classical and electric violin, occasionally solo, but more commonly in rock bands, quartets, orchestras and recording sessions all across Asia and America. I am able to perform and teach in varying styles and genres.
In 2013, I moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, where I studied Jazz, bluegrass, gypsy jazz and middle eastern violin.
A multi-instrumentalist, I also play and teach the electric guitar, acoustic guitar and piano.
I also produce and engineer music, recording in
dependent artists and bands based out of Boston.
I presently write and perform in two bands, an indie rock project called Paper Citizen and pop/HipHop group called Mad Yonder.
I teach privately in my studio in Palms, as well as at a music studio in West LA. I also travel to student’s homes.
I love playing music and I always hope to inspire a similar level of interest and enthusiasm with my students by exploring different styles of music - through a combination of learning songs, improvisation/creation and technique.
I work hard to help you achieve your goals and most importantly, get you playing with confidence!
I am passionate about seeing students grow. I strive to be energetic yet patient when teaching to create a comfortable dynamic in my lessons that encourages excitement about music. I have been playing guitar for 9 years, and have performed professionally with groups playing styles ranging from jazz, country, rock, blues, funk, and even musical theatre. I am capable of teaching beginners as well as intermediate students. My lessons encourage a strong knowledge of fundamentals, so that a student can continue to develop years down the road with their acquired understanding of music, but I also am also careful to tailor lesson material according to a student's interests, personality, and natural learning methods.
Are you interested in being able to confidently play lead and rhythm parts in a band? Want to learn to write songs? Want to learn to just strum along to your favorite records by yourself? I will teach you or your child all of the knowledge and tools needed to do whatever your dream is on your instrument. My aim is to help every student achieve their personal goals on their instrument within the context of a relaxed and patient environment that promotes a love of music!
I achieve this by:
1) Individualizing lesson plans so that each student stays engaged and learns in the style that is best for them as learners.
2) Ensuring that students learn BOTH how to play their instrument as well as the theory behind what they are playing. This creates a more well-rounded musician that is capable of problem solving on their instrument an
d being able to play in a variety of settings.
I have been playing music for over 10 years and teaching private lessons since 2014. My professional performance experience includes solo guitar gigs, rock band shows, musical theatre pit work, dance band playing, plus various gigs in Nashville, around the Eastern United States, and even in Scotland!
I graduated from Belmont University in the Spring of 2018 with a degree in Commercial Music, so I have had the "conservatory training" in regards to music theory and history, but before college I was largely a self taught player and am now a professionally performing musician here in Nashville.
Chris is an awesome teacher! I have been taking lessons with Chris for a few months. I had spent quite an extended period studying with other instructors but Chris is still helping develop me to a better musician and guitar player. Have been working on some ear training stuff that other instructors maybe would not have taken the time to work with me on! Working on hearing and playing the divided sky by phish right now not an easy piece of music. Also working on more phrasing and country blues licks and theory. I would definitely recommend Chris to anyone👍🎸
September 3, 2019
I am likely the oldest student Chris is currently teaching, with a brain that doesn't soak up the material like the youngsters.
He is a very skilled musician in his own right, but most importantly, he is very patient and presents the material in a way that I can grasp it.
The atmosphere is relaxed and I always look forward to me next lesson.
June 7, 2019
My son Liam really enjoys his classes with Chris. Chris is very patient and is amazing with kids. He is a very Experienced Musician and Teacher. His lessons each week are a great mix of both Practical and Music Theory.I m so happy we were able to find Chris and I thank Take Lessons for making this happen.
I have been teaching guitar for about 15 years now and have taught students between the ages of 6-60 from very beginners to advanced players who want to deepen their understanding of the instrument.
I have an extensive experience playing/teaching a wide array of musical genres and have played numerous stages in the U.S and abroad.
I have a BFA with honors in jazz performance from the Rubin Academy for Music and Dance and have also attended the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music (NYC)
I always try to tailor the lesson to the students needs and musical preferences while keeping core skills that we will try to always incorporate (reading music/ theory for more advanced students, ear training etc.) I'm very passionate about teaching and believe it's imperative as a musician to be able to share the knowledge and experience I've acquired along my musical path.
My name is Nadav and I have been a professional guitar player and teacher for most of my life now. I have a very extensive experience playing festivals and venues in the U.S and abroad and have been teaching beginner and advanced guitar/bass and musical ensemble classes for 15 years.
I always strive to make the lessons fun (otherwise, what's the point? (: ) all the while being educational and try to have the student start playing actual music (simple melodies/songs) from the very first lesson.
For more advanced students- I focus on many valuable technics for live playing/recording situations as well as theory/harmony and ear training and cover a very wide range of musical styles.
I also teach electric bass and Ukulele.
I have graduated from the Rubin Academy for Music and Dance (Jerusalem) with honors and was
a dean's list honoree while attending the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music (NYC) I have been awarded with the America-Israel Culture Fund's "Exellence in Jazz Guitar" award as well as many scholarships for various prestigious musical institutions around the world.
I'm happy to teach at both my studio in Los Feliz or online.
Speaking from the standpoint of a colleague of Nadav’s for many years and professional musician/educator myself, Nadav is the real deal. He is my top recommendation, without question, for anyone looking to study the guitar and/or music in general.
Nadav is an extremely gifted and skilled musician, composer, and bandleader with very deep understanding of playing the guitar. He has the experience and versatility to so in a multitude of different styles ranging from R&B, Pop, Funk, Jazz and Ethiopian groove music (check out his incredible band: Abbess Orchestra). He is also extremely kind, has a gentle yet “matter-of-fact” demeanor and is the consummate professional.
For anyone who has interest in learning the guitar and needs an instructor, no matter their experience level, it’s impossible to go wrong with Nadav. Just check him out and sign up!
February 4, 2018
I was a self taught guitar player since a very early age, so when I met Nadav for the first time I already knew many songs and chords. But my technique was a mess.
Nadav helped me establish a healthy and meticulous practice routine that fixed my technique very quickly.
I would recommend him as a teacher for every level.
February 4, 2018
Great teacher with good vibes! Nadav showed me great ways to practice harmony and soloing on the guitar. Highly recommended.

It doesn't matter if you're a guitar player who wants to sing along with your music, or a singer looking for accompaniment - it can be tricky for all of us to learn how to coordinate playing the guitar and singing at the same time! Luckily, there are several ways to master how to sing and play guitar, and with a good amount of practice, you can learn how to master the skill.
Before you begin, however, it's smart to have a strong foundation in both playing the guitar and singing separately. Ma …
