To learn a skill that becomes more enjoyable the more you progress. You'd start with learning Amazing Grace your first lesson.I would have you number your fingers. Then I would show you which finger goes to which key and when to play it in order to play Amazing Grace.

I'm glad I found Paul on takelessons.com. I was looking for someone to help me take my decent but untrained voice to the next level. Paul is committed to helping me advance toward my goal of being a singer-songwriter. In addition to the exercises we work on to strengthen my voice and gain control, he has given me some strategies to track my progress and improve more quickly. He also encourages me to take risks and go out and sing karaoke. He is caring and authentic and genuinely invested in my growth, and I am becoming a better musician because of it. Thank you, Paul!!

Online Piano Teacher

Hello! I'm Dr. Tom W. I've been teaching piano and guitar professionally since 1994. I believe the best method a teacher can provide a student is one that's tailor-made to their specific needs. I've spent a lifetime doing just this, and would love the opportunity to do the same for you! I offer my students a comprehensive learning experience - one that includes technique, music grammar (theory), and historical knowledge. All of these combine to make music come alive when we're at the instrument, and make learning music interesting and fascinating! I am knowledgeable, kind, patient, and encouraging, but I also challenge my students to be their best!

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my profile - it would be my honor to be considered as your teacher. May God bless you!

-Dr. Tom

About Dr. Tom

Hey everyone! Dr. Tom here - just wanted to share a little bit about myself with you. I want you to know that although I'm a lifelong professional musician, I'm also a father, a husband, and a decent human being who tries to be good and kind to everyone I meet. I know life happens, and I always

As an adult student returning to the piano after a 20 year hiatus it was vital for me to get high-quality instruction and guidance. Dr Tom helped me break old habits still present in my playing, instructed me on healthy posture and hand position, and helped unlock my true potential. Thanks to Dr Tom's guidance I was able to overcome my performance anxiety with a successful solo recital - a long-time dream of mine!
Dr Tom is a dedicated, experienced and respected educator and musician. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking great piano instruction for any age or level!
Sean
Dr. Tom was my piano instructor for about a decade, and during that time I went from a complete beginner to playing at virtuoso level. I played in various competitions and events, mostly through my middle/high school, in which I placed highly and received both recognition and praise. My ability at the piano even allowed for my high school band to play concertos and pieces involving advanced piano literature, elevating the bands capabilities of performance. Even after leaving for college and unfortunately having to end my studies, I am able to quickly learn new pieces and play them at performance level, even without the intention of playing them in professional performance. I have Dr. Tom to thank for cultivating not only this amazing skill, but the will to continue practicing it even after leaving his studio.
Sophia
Dr. Tom has been a fantastic piano teacher. He always works with you, and is patient and supportive with every skill level you reach. My music reading got way better after taking lessons with him, and he was always happy to explain things about music theory and history as well as simply teaching me what my hands should be doing. He's also very understanding about working with your schedule if you need to miss or reschedule a lesson.

I honestly can't think of a single issue or complaint - I've had a great experience taking lessons from Dr. Tom. I would gladly recommend him for anyone who wants to learn piano.

You can expect instruction in three areas--theory, technique, and repertoire, or put more simply, ideas, skills, and songs. I will teach you a skill, we will discuss why and how it works, and then I will show you how to use it in the context of a song. This process can take place over a few months or a few minutes, depending on what's being discussed and the experience level of the student. I will almost always send you home with reference sheets and/or recordings. Though we sometimes learn out of books, I prefer to generate custom lessons and materials and focus on playing by ear.

About John

I've noticed that most musicians spend very little time on the things that really work. Often times, the things great musicians tell us we should do are not the things we practice! So many musicians and students come to me saying that they want to get better, they want to perform, they want to cr

9 Piano Sight Reading Exercises for Beginners

The ability to sight read well is a skill that every pianist should have. Below, piano teacher Ryan C. shares 9 piano sight reading exercises to help you master this important skill... It’s the first day of rehearsals at your school’s choir. Everyone has been assigned new music that they haven’t seen or sung before. You can sing, but you definitely consider yourself more of a pianist. Your teacher walks in and solemnly says: “Hi everyone, our pianist is sick today, so we're …
